travelingmack 0 #26 December 27, 2008 Quote It was kinda like an early Christmas when my UPS guy showed up yesterday . . . The frame is six up, four out, 40 degree neck with 5 degree trees, and ten over forks. I'm running Metzler 200 rear and 90/90 front tires. I'm mocking her up now and today I'll mount the forward controls and the front end. The fork uses internal fork stops I've never used before so I'll have to figure that out. I'd like to go with a S&S motor and Baker six speed, but my wallet is leaning more toward a Harley Evo crate motor and a five speed. (If you hear of any bank stickups in my area, I swear, it wasn't me!) And if any of you other builders have any unused stuff laying around let me know. I'm going to try and fab up my own solo seat (there's woman where ever you go so no use packing one around) but I need fenders, brakes, drag bars, and what not. I'll check in again in about five years when it's done, LOL! NickD man, those welding lines are porn... good luck and post more pic..
NickDG 23 #27 December 28, 2008 Not much physical progress in the last few days, I switched to nights on the ambulance and it's got me really messed up. But between calls I can check out possible B.A.S.E. jumps downtown easy enough . . . LOL - there's always a silver lining . . . I gave up on the shot glass taillight idea after breaking the cool Jim Beam one I bought, and then every other one I had in the house. Then I saw a pretty cool and authentic 1928 Ford taillight on Ebay but when the bidding got up to a hundred bucks I bailed out. So I bought a replica one for less than half that and it'll do. I've always liked the look of these lights as they remind me of the Martian probes from the original "War of the Worlds" movie . . . I also ditched the aluminum billet triple trees I had in favor of a set of HHI stainless steel ones. They cost me 400 bucks but they'll be worth every penny. I also decided to cough up the extra dough and go with an S&S 96 inch motor. When I figured the price of the Harley Evo crate motor plus having to add the carb and ignition for only 60 or so horsepower the S&S makes more sense. With some head work and a cam the EVO could be made okay but the S&S makes about a 100 horsepower right out of the box. Yikes! I've heard nothing but good things about the Ultima six speed trannys and at the price you can almost buy three of them for the price of one Moco five speed, so what the hell I'm going with that too. And Julia gave me a "good luck" riding bell for Christmas . . . Got to have one of those babies! Oh, and I'm working on my poser look . . . ryoder 1,412 #28 December 28, 2008 The posing needs work. Specifically you need: - Tan Aussie outback hat with brim on one side turned up. - Big bushy sideburns. - Big bushy moustache. - Suede leather jacket with lots of fringes. AggieDave 6 #29 December 28, 2008 Nope, what he really needs are all new leathers with a huge HOG patch on the back. Full face helmet and job as a doctor or lawyer is extra. You also need to buy every damned thing that Kurykun (SP?) has that you can easily bolt onto the bike. --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Anyways, its still funny. Ahhh...that's more like it. True story: My buddy Jeff is an avid boat enthusiast, and has his own business refurbishing wooden boats. One day he was at a marina in FL where he knew the owner well, and the owner took him aside with an offer: "I've got this guy over there with more money than brains who just bought this brand new megabucks speedboat and I'm certain he has never driven a boat before. I'll give you $200 cash to go along with him when he takes it out the first time just to make sure he doesn't wreck it the first time." So Jeff went out with the guy on the boats maiden voyage. They were doing pretty well with the new owner driving until they hit a wave that pitched the bow up. The new owner grabbed for something to keep from getting tossed out of the seat and grabbed...the throttle, pulling it wide open as he and everyone else in the boat went sliding to the stern. As Jeff describes it, the boat practically stood on it's transom, spinning on it's prop as he frantically climbed up the the captains seat and turned off the ignition. While I'm waiting for parts to come in I need to get the rust out of my fatbob tanks as they've been sitting in my garage for a couple of years. I'm either going to go the chemical route or put some BBs inside them, wrap them in foam padding, and put them into the clothes dryer to tumble. Finally I'll Kreem them . . . AggieDave 6 #47 December 31, 2008 POR-15 makes an excellent tank treatment process. I used it to restore the gas tank in my old VW. I can't say enough good things about their products.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
normiss 643 #48 December 31, 2008 I didn't know they also made tank products. BUY THEM!!! Everything of their I have used in the past has been the best product ever. I used the rubber/vinyl tank liner many years ago on a Kawasaki I had...it worked, but not very well. It had trouble staying adhered over time.
