Have admit that after several minutes of trying to piece it together I gave up.
Since you said not to google it, of course, that was the first thing to do since by your saying not to meant the answer was googleable.

I'd heard the Bakker/Nelson connection before, but this was the first I'd heard of Larouche.

(I just read "Sugar Alpha" and was googling for more details on some of the stuff in there.)
