I just got this from an old skydiving buddy. Absoutely fabulous. http://www.rockinghammemories.net/chevybillboards.html Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossilbe before they were done. Louis D Brandeis Where are we going and why are we in this basket?

Good in the sense that God created it so it has to be good. You generally don't consume rock. And I don't drink wine (or any alcohol)...it's a sin. You certainly have the appropriate sig line. If your voices said it, it must be true. Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossilbe before they were done. From the time I could run around the neighborhood with the other kids my age, I ALWAYS thought the most fun I could have was finding a big hill of loose dirt to jump of of. That second or two of freefall was what I wanted. The higher the hill, the longer the fall. The loose dirt made a good landing area and that was all I needed to have fun the whole day. My mom wasn't too happy about washing my clothes but I did it anyway. The TV show Ripcord gave me the idea that jumping out of airplane was the most fun falling there could possibly be. 7 or 8 years later I was stationed at Ft. Jackson and A guy who jumped was in the unit. I watched him pack his PC (Paracommander) and a Delta II. (Even as a non-jumper that thing looked too wierd.) He trained me, taught me to pack and we went to the Charlotte Skydivers where I made 6 static lines jumps, a clear and pull, a 10 second delay and then a 30 second delay. Not quite the standard progression. On the 30 second delay, he followed me out and flew down in front of me about 20 feet away and just a little above. I could see the horizon under him and remember thinking, "This is just like Ripcord!" And that's how it became the focus of my life for the next 25 years. And I didn't have to get dirty jumping into loose dirt anymore. Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossilbe before they were done. PIA techncal commitee might have some kind of reference book with part numbers. It looks familiar but by memory is as short as my... Well, it's pretty short. In my opinion, the best 4 line release was the one Manly Butler made/invented when he was still in the Navy at Jacksonville NAS and jumping at Palatke. The lanyards you pulled to release the 2 lines on each side became the steering lines attached to the next line. I found this ripcord...............

A Vector II, actually. Bill Booth redesigned the Vector I to clean up the wrinkles and make the narrower V-3,4, & 5. I think Bobby Overby helped with that. Would've been about early "83 or maybe late "82. RWS started putting RSLs on in "84 (?). AND come to think of it, it would not be a Tandem handle becarse they were a loop handle made of tubular nylon. This is not quite accurate. That land was part of the British Mandate for Palestine, had been since 1917 and was not under the direct control of either Syria or Transjordan. Prior to being part of the British Mandate it was ruled over by the Ottoman empire. My mistake. Actually, I wasn't mistaken, I was just wrong. The state of Israel was created be the United Nations in 1948. The UN took some land from Jordan and some from Syria and made it a "homeland" for the Jewish peiple. It had been their home a few thousand years ago. Jews had had some really hard times over the previous 15 or 20 years. Some sympathy was understandable. Unless you were one of those whose family had lived there for many generations and now were in Israel. The hour that the UN resolution went into effect, the new state was attecked by all it's neighbors. Israel had to fight for it's life in the field and in the capitols of whatever country that might help them. They managed to hang on and stay alive and even prosper. Palistine was the name of that whole area when the Romans were the big guys on the block. Now the Palistineans seem to asking for the same thing the that was given to the Jews. They may have to fight for what is given to them the way the Jews did. I hope not but I'm afraid it will be so. If they could buy and sell to one another and become economicly united, that would indead be a wonderful world. But something would be needed before that could happen. In the words of that philosopher, Rodney King, "Can't we all just get along?" That IS the hard part. Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossilbe before they were done. Vectors with RSLs use that type of ripcord. Less than 30 years. That would put it back to 1981. RWS started doing that in the mid 80s. This doesn't look long enough to be a tandem. But on a second look, maybe. Don't know about the riggers seal on the handle. Maybe a gear check tag but the seal would probably be put on with wire instead of thread. Is there a seal symbol on it? Because they know they can be. They have the power to say whether your are or aren't getting any. That's the way it is in a world where 50% of the people control 100% of the pussy. Shenanigans ? Packing/packers issue
Niki1 replied to KevinMcguire89's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
And when you get your C license, go back and see how they act. Let us know. By then, the word will have gotten around about they treat the low time jumpers. Maybe they will have seen the light and changed their ways. (But I doubt it.) If you're treated like a leper, go back to your good DZ and spend your money thtere. DZ kids were probably the first to get to pack. Harold Stewarts son Johnny packed for 2 10-way teams at the '74 Z-Hills Turkey meet.Para Commanders in sleeves. No malfunctions. "Professiona"l packing may have started with competition teams wanting to save time and energy. The Air Bears in '85 had Alaska Bob for a packer. He went north after they won the Nationals and didn't come back to DeLand for a while. Tommy asked if I wanted to go to the world meet in Yugoslavia. I let him know that I was no where close to Bob as a packer but they took me anyway. A great trip that led to the demo EVER. (That's another story) The next year, "86, Aziz (sp) came to DeLand and hired Tommy to coach his 4 way team. That was the beginning of professional coaching. Aziz was the only one of the four who could skydive well so Tommy built a team around him. Aziz paid for everything. Skip Kniley was the paid video man, Fang was the paid packer/rigger. This might have been the first professional team other than the Golden Knights. Billy, Rickster, Todd, and Andi were all there at the beginning and jumped on the band wagon. Other teams saw the advantages of having their own packer and it went on from there. Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossilbe before they were done. Are political parties similar to unions? Or vice versa?
Niki1 replied to Niki1's topic in Speakers Corner
Yes, I can understand the problem now. But that doesn't mean it makes more sense. I guess I can see why people elect lawyers to make laws. It sounds reasonable on the surface. But lawyers don't learn right from wrong in law school. They learn how to advocate for their clients by manipulating the law. I'm gereraly not a union fan but if I was a member of one, I think I would vote for some one who has worked in the trade rather than a lawyer who never got his hands dirty in a literal way. Niki1 replied to Niki1's topic in Speakers Corner
Unions are some times needed in order to right the wrongs of abusive management. But generaly they are a mob of people with similar views and opinions who realize that a group has more power that an individual. Often, they just want more, more, and more for their member without regard to the company's needs and requirements. (I know I'm leaving CEO pay disparity out of this.) Political parties are a mob of people who have similar views and oponions who realize that a group has more power than an individual. They see tha "other party" as the abusive management. Often, they just want more, more, and more for their member without regard to the company's needs and requirements. (I know I'm leaving campaign financing out of this. Are there any differences? Unions have a vested interest in the company's well being but acts as though that's not the case. Political parties have a vested interest in the country well being but act like any idea the "other party" has is bad. I've worked at enough different places to understand, "It's not a good idea unless the right person thinks of it." I've learned to swallow my ego and make suggestions so that the "right person" could have the idea. I've also been fortunate to work at a few places with people who realized that a good idea is a good idea no matter where it comes from. These places were by far a more comfortable place to work. Does everything have to be advesarial? Can it ever be co-operative for the greater good? Or must the other side always lose even if my side doen't win? Without all the other "factoring ins" Some one works for 45 years (22 to 67) and was in the exact middle of the income bell curve every year. What percentage of their pay went to SS? How much is the expected monthly check at retirement? It seems like this is fairly straight forward. Unless it's these numbers that are hard to find. I've always prefered America the Beautiful over The Star Spangled Banner. To me, it sounds prettier. Those were the 2 songs Congress had to choose from in 1930 or '31. They chose the more martial one, The Star Spangled Banner. In different times, they may have chosen the other. I don't have a problem with the words of TSSB but I wish the poem had been put to a different tune. I've had only one opportunity to drive across country, DeLand to Seattle and back. I kept thinking that America the Beautiful was a really easy song to write. This is a beautiful country. I worry about most everything on the list to varying degrees. But frar? Dosen't do any good to fear anything. Maybe it's just semantics but respecting dangerous things will generaly see you through. I probably worry most about sonething preventing me from keeping a promise or disappointing some one I care about. Well, that's half of what it takes for evolution to happen.

To compare this to the Hitler Youth program might be a bit strong. But what these people want is about the same as Sharia law with a different face. Actually Mohamed and Jesus probably did look similar to each other. Jesus certainly didn't look like the European in the Renasance paintings.
