  1. I've never used a Mac, but that was SO funny! Yeah, it'll have to be a PC because no one at my work can even send an email without screaming for help so there's NO WAY they could learn (or I'd try to teach them) a new system! Trust me, these people frighten me. I had to drive to work (a 40 minute commute) last Saturday because my boss couldn't figure out how to copy a document to a floppy disc, even when I tried to walk her through it! Pammi
  2. Very true...you'll have negative opinions and issues with ANY product. Good point. Pammi
  3. Well, I was leaning towards IBM when I read this thread...I'm wondering now about all the issues they seem to be having? Notebook Reviews Pammi
  4. I've been asked to do some research into a 'good reliable laptop' for our office. Right now we have a POS Hewlett Packard they bought a couple years ago that the motherboard has already went out of and it freezes up on them constantly. It looks like the Dell 9100 has good reviews. I know it will make a difference what it's used for, but I don't know specifics yet of what they'll want. Right now they only use the HP one sporadically when there are meetings or depositions out-of-town to work on documents, print them and get on the internet some. So nothing too intensive (so maybe the 9100 is too much for that.) Any thoughts from the more hardware knowledgable computer geeks out there? Pammi
  5. Yeah, probably so. As with most threads on this site, they've been redone over and over in the 4 years I've hung around. I, personally, am too lazy to search for everything I want to talk about first, so I'll just take the flames for my repost This is one of those things that definately does come up a lot, questioning yourself if what you're doing is wrong especially by newbies to the sport or those not yet in it. And mom's like me...I don't think there's been a one of us who hasn't asked whether it was worth it on here! I think we all just need validation we're not crazy, or at least we're in good company (and it gives us ammo for conversations with family/friends that come up later!) Pammi
  6. Definately I know kids like this. My daughter, who is 12, is very mature and because she reads a LOT (Did I say a LOT?! Above high school level?) is always using 'grown up' words. I tease her about it because she tries to sound older then she is sometimes I think. I guess that's why she does it. She uses them properly though, so whatever. And ALL she thinks about is skydiving and talking on forums, so I'm sure she'd be chatting with you guys here if I'd let her (yeah right! ) OH, and she's not allowed to put ANY information about herself when she registers on sites, like these other boards she talks on. So yup, he could be genuine. Now Chad, that's kinda a personal question, whether it's worth it. I'm with most everyone else, I wouldn't be spending the money it requires if it wasn't. As far as is it worth your life or what you family might go through if something happens, THAT is the personal part. *I* say yes for a lot of reasons and even though I'm 'a grown-up' (mostly) my mom still hates me jumping, so your parents might NEVER understand. Sorry. Pammi
  7. OH! Good idea! I'll get our video out today! The lightening in the background was way cool for effect too! Not sure what kind of redneck that makes me that I did something Dave is advising against! Oh, and it wasn't standard gear. Huge-a$$ chute and even a cutaway rigged to kick loose with your foot when you were done. NO, I'm not saying go do it. Visited a DZ, looked like fun, did it, NOT recommending it! Pammi
  8. Oh really? That's pretty cool! I'm afraid I'd not have much to bring to the table as far as other sport skills (or even skydiving ones for that matter! ) Pammi
  9. I don't think he does. I believe he was just a guest filling in for the regular guy. He was reading from a clipboard and really just kept repeating the same thing over and over whenever he came on. Pam
  10. You beat me to it :) I saw that this morning as I was getting ready, but missed where they finally spoke to him because I had to leave for work. Very cool though! My son called Merrick who'd already left to tell him about the 'crazy guy trying to get back into the plane' and ran around whooping at how cool he was. I guess Mom and Dad just getting out isn't cutting it on the whole cool factor anymore! Pammi
  11. How cool would it be to BE one...to have a company sponsor an unexperienced jumper, giving them jumps, coaching, gear, tunnel time and such. Then once they are kick a$$, that person represents them at meets and such, or works for them. Pick me!! Pammi
  12. Hey! Happy Birthday Freak!! Pammi
  13. 172 What fun. Gee, imagine if I hadn't gotten married and slowed down Pammi

  15. Ah see what happens when you live with a woman who works for a litigation attorney? You start seeing other sides sometimes! I admit, I am pretty sheepish about telling what I do for a living and would prefer working in another area, but sometimes lawsuits are just. In this instance it's hard to say without knowing the details, but I think Merrick is trying to play Devil's advocate and point out the other side that turns most people's stomach who dislike lawsuits of any kind (versus the people who have several lawsuits going at any given time just to try to get their own personal lotto going!). Personally, when I sign a waiver, I absolutely know the risks, yes, BUT I'm not giving them (manufacturer, DZO, whomever) permission to be negligent. I've seen plenty of posts on here from people complaining about an unsafe DZ, gear safety issues that were preventable, unsafe skydivers...so you know that these things are out there. I'm assuming if you thought it was okay, there wouldn't be bitching about it. Yes, sueing takes it that ugly step further, which is why I'd want to be certain it was true negligence or intent before I'd pursue such a thing. I know that later of my daughter is jumping, if she was seriously injured and I later found out it was due to someone's severe negligence, laziness, cheapness (not just an honest OMG mistake which is sad but not sue worthy) yeah, I'd consider suing if it would help pay for such things as medical bills. If it was just to get some cash, I don't think I could personally go through with it. Pammi

  17. I'd read that he was going to be there for a week, that his dad was a Green Beret so he wanted the experience or some such. I doubt it'll be the same experience any of you had! Pammi

Texas Math A business owner in Texas was confused about paying an invoice minus the early payment discount, so he decided to ask his secretary for some mathematical help. He called her into his office and said, "You graduated from the University of Texas and I need some help." "If I were to give you $21,375 minus 12.75% how much would you take off?" The secretary thought a moment, then replied, "Everything but my earrings." You gotta love them Texas women! Pammi
