  1. get ready for the ride of your life! in this sport, it only gets better as you grow and learn. Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, all used up, and loudly proclaiming: Wow, what a ride!
  2. i get what youre saying and i agree. maybe my wording is just wrong because i'm not the greatest at expressing my point through typing. I know i still have heaps to learn in this sport and im learning something new every day. so im just going to drop out of this conversation because im sure im gonna make myself look like an ass because i'm no good at typing. and rather than try to make myself right, i'll just sit back and watch and maybe learn something in the process. 3. Doing the thing because you have an AAD is stupid. And if you would do the more dangerous thing that you should really just avoid IS stupid and allowing the AAD to run your decision. But hey, I do not expect you to admit that. And what the hell would I know about skydiving anyway? now you're twisting my words. i never once said i would do something more risky because i had an AAD. Second, nowhere did i ever say nor imply that an AAD is running my decision. Had you actually read my post, you would see that i made a point to say that proper training(and experience as well) is what's important when learning a more risky skydiving discipline. Then i went on to say that if having an AAD would reduce the risk of death more ALONG with proper training(and experience), then i would get one assuming i didn't already jump with one(maybe not in those EXACT words but still). I personally don't base my decisions on choosing a discipline on whether or not i have an AAD. Never even insinuated that i did in my post. I make my decisions based on advice from experienced skydivers who have seen my skills and are capable of evaluating whether or not it is appropriate for me to partake in said discipline. Furthermore, i know you know a lot more about skydiving than i do. That being said, it doesn't mean my views on reasoning for use of an AAD are wrong. Had you taken the time to read ALL of what i said you would see that i don't believe that people should be making decisions based on whether or not they have an AAD. Maybe i didn't emphasize it enough but i strongly believe that any decisions to take up new disciplines should be made with the advice of instructors and experienced skydivers. With the proper experience and training dangerous disciplines can be made safer. If using an AAD can help make it even 1% safer on top of the proper training and experience then i'm all for it. But again i DO NOT advocate taking up something more dangerous simply because you have an AAD. 4. To quote you: So instead of avoiding the danger, you decided to get an AAD and do them anyway. I think you're twisting what he's saying. He never said that because he has an AAD he's going to do more dangerous things. He's saying that he realizes that he's doing something with more risk involved so he would like to have a backup should something go wrong. There's a big difference there. Saying you're going to do something more dangerous BECAUSE you have an AAD is stupid. Saying you REALIZE that what you're doing has a more inherent danger involved and you would like something as a backup in case something goes wrong isn't stupid. There are several disciplines in skydiving that are more dangerous than others. Does that mean that we shouldn't do them because they are more dangerous? Absolutely not. It simply means that we should have the proper training and take any extra precautions to HOPEFULLY avoid something that could go wrong. Getting an AAD could be one of those extra precautions. If i get involved in a discipline in skydiving where, say, the risk of getting knocked out in freefall is greater than that of another discipline, and having an AAD could help prevent my death should that happen, then you bet your ass I'm getting an AAD. Now assuming i didn't jump with an AAD already, I'm simply taking a precaution because i realize there is a greater risk involved. However, i am not choosing to try this new discipline BECAUSE i have an AAD. I think that's exactly what this person is saying as well. 5. full face oxygen helmets are not meant for FF jumping. They do not recomend it for more than belly work. Due to the high speed of free flying, wind can get under the chin and blow the visor off. true but theres ways you can mod it to keep the visor closed. A guy i jump with has one and he attached straps and button clips to the visor and helmet and it wont open during free flying. i tried it and it worked but the visor keeps fogging on me so i took the visor off completely and just use goggles. 6. ah ok gotcha i misunderstood what you were saying. You read something wrong. I was stating that the cutter in this incident was not from the recalled batch of cutters. Therefore, either the recall was not extensive enough, or the problem wasn't fully understood, and whatever is causing it is still present in cutters previously believed to be good. The only upside to this is that the faulty cutters should essentailly 'do no harm' in that they will not cause an incident by doing something unexpected. The failure results in less action from the cutter, which is a bitch for the user if they are in need, but not a risk to others, like a mis-fire in the middle of a skydive. 7. In all fairness, the USPA newsletter also had a blurb about the Otter crash in GA last week, so it's possible that this AAD problem occurred very recently, and maybe it hasn't hit the forums yet. Either way, it sounds like the same problem they had with those other cutters. Either the cutter not cutting the loop and trapping it, or the loop moving off to the side and the cutter only partially cutting the loop. In either case, the cutter in question was well out of the DOM the manufacturer stated was the 'problem batch'. What this means to me is that they either didn't have the correct manufacturing info or didn't correctly identify the problem during the first recall. The long and short of it is that any Argus cutter is back on the table as being 'suspect'. actually, unless i read the report wrong(or the statement you made), the cutter in question was manufactured in march 2009. the cutters that needed to be replaced were ones manufactured prior to august 2007. 9. ok apparently im the only one here that realizes that you can only kill zombies by significant damage to the head whether it be by bullets or some other blunt object. a katana would simply not be as capable of doing this as well as a machete would. a katana is too lightweight to be able to carry enough velocity to be able to either chop a head off or do significant damage to a head to kill a zombie. Katanas are made for slicing not chopping. it would easily take several swipes with a katana to be able to cut a head completely off and a whole lot of force as well. a machete could do it with much less effort and could crack through a skull pretty easily too. but a katana wouldnt. so my vote is machete or even an axe. i could sure slice a zombie up with a katana but i need to do damage to the head. whether it be cutting it right off or a swift chop to the skull a heavy sharp blade would be the way to go. 13. anyone know where i can find a quality video on how to psycho pack. preferably free. Thanks Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, all used up, and loudly proclaiming: Wow, what a ride!
  14. yeah i was at the dz every weekend. if i wasnt learning to pack i was asking questions, watching people land, etc. take in all the info that you can. and the only dumb question is one that isnt asked Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, all used up, and loudly proclaiming: Wow, what a ride!
  15. Hey i know exactly how you feel. When i made my 6th jump i sprained my ankle pretty bad and was out of commission for 4 months before i could get back up in the air. Sure it was torture and i really wanted to get back up in that plane. But at the same time i told myself to just wait it out and wait for the doctor to give me the ok. I'm glad i waited because my first jump back i flared waaay too high and had i not let my ankle heal properly i could've really messed it up again. Take my advice here. Wait it out and let it heal properly. Failure to do so could keep you out of the plane a lot longer than 2 months. Sure you might have to take the FJC again and repeat a level or 2 but who cares? In this sport it's always better to be as safe as possible. Also, like other people have said in here, go hang out at the DZ and learn to pack and ask lots of questions. Watch people do their patterns, land, etc. You'd be surprised what you could learn. Here's what i got. Reflex container with only about 25 jumps on it. Swift reserve with no rides Brand new pilot 210 My cypres comes in tomorrow so i will hopefully be able to jump it by next weekend. 23. This. Ive had this problem before and you have to reboot in safe mode with networking. you should be able to go to the site and download the software and run it in safe mode. It will most likely fix the problem. The software has always worked for me when i did this. Ski had me uncheck the proxy server which allowed me to use a different screen name to finally get a browser working...updated malware, ran it 3X's and everything is good. I couldn't get a browser up in any screen name even in Safe mode (w/ networking) The screen name in use when infected had multi-pop ups and the redirect to bogus site...all the other screen names didn't have the pop-ups or the redirect, just 'error cannot connect to interweb'. I did look through the reg files but couldn't find anything corresponding to the names on the pop-ups or redirect site... Even though I'm a stone tablet and chisel kinda guy, I know better than to just start zapping lines in files... Hmm i'm not a computer pro or anything of the sort so i have no clue why it's not working. The advice i gave was always what i did to fix the issue and it always worked. So Sorry i couldnt be more help Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, all used up, and loudly proclaiming: Wow, what a ride!
  24. Holy crap I just fell out of my chair! Look, ladies it's not that I don't like you or that I'm bitter. Sadly I'm a realist. Look you get 50 women in a room who can all see each other and you ask them one by one what they want most in a guy and I'm willing to bet good money that most if not all will say "Oh I want a guy with a good sense of humor...." REALLY! And we all know that's a lie. Because let's face it we all don't want the same thing. BUT women and I hate to say this because I'm going to get flamed for it are far more concerned about how other women view them and thus have a stack of canned responses which as as gray as the London fog. And with that lens of ambiguity bordering on the edge of paranoia advice regarding dating often falls short if not totally off the mark. Mix that with the natural order of life. Men approach women, women sit there and look cute. Men take the risks women...well accept the risk or dismiss it. Its as if we are playing a game of poker and the ladies have all the suits and the guys have all the rest. Winning for a girl is significantly easier than it is for a man. Now by now your average girl has probably stopped out of her cube and has bitched about me to her BFF who last night she called "bitchy and a bit cankled" to her other BFF. Which is fine. But stop making the guy do all the work. It's 2011 and before you know it it's going to be 2020. Get past this Victorian BS. If you see a guy you like, grow a set of ovaries and walk over and with a clear distinct voice introduce yourself. I'll help you out, don't stare at his junk or his feet, don't mumble, make sure your breath isn't funky, you don't have anything in your teeth, you are dressed reasonably well and don't looks as if you are some sort of nut job. Walk up and say "Hi may name is.....fill in the blank...may I offer you a drink?" Please don't get me wrong, I love you ladies and some of my friends have even accused me of being addicted to women. What I'm telling you is the gods honest truth. Yes a few guys will come in and accuse me of X Y or Z to get "goody points" but that's just a show of poor character and they need to be introduced to the brocode. So take a deep breath, put your prejudices, and your misconceptions and change the world for the better. And yes you will get rejected...like every single guy I know has. As for the OP. May I suggest something? And it may not be a good method but it's better than nothing? Try hedging your bets. Instead of focusing on one prospect spread the risk. If one girl really likes you and shows greater potential she will float to the top. If you focus on one date one relationship at a time you will most likely, and the ladies will agree with this, freak her out by actually appearing too interested ie too eager. They may say they like the "funny / attentive guy" but 9/10 they will date a guy who gives them 1% less attention then they call a minimum. Shah, while i just complimented a girl in a post above about advice given by her, i have to say, you and i think alike in the aspect described above. It's true that girls need to start acting like it's 2011 and start making moves themselves. Girls drop subtle hints. Guys don't understand subtle. We want clear, concise signs that you're interested. If you keep dropping subtle hints and we dont respond, it's one of 2 things. We're either not interested or you're too god damn subtle. So to all the ladies out there, im challenging you to approach one guy that you're interested in and show some interest. Stop making us do all the damn work for once. Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, all used up, and loudly proclaiming: Wow, what a ride!
  25. Ok, I agree with you that women don't know what dating is like for a man - but our different point of view doesn't mean we understand NOTHING. It's just a different perspective - sometimes an outsider's view is a *good* thing. Sharing a different perspective can give an insight into something you hadn't considered. I may not have a penis, but that doesn't mean I haven't experienced very similar difficulties/heartbreak. Now, to the OP. I think it's important in life to be happy. I think we put a lot of focus on finding that one true love, but we often forget that inner happiness is way more important and (can be) far more difficult to find. Someone once told me she had made a list... Of all the things she hated in her life, and all the things she loved in her life. She found a HUGE imbalance there, so one by one she took steps to eliminate the negative things, and increase the things that make her smile. I thought this was a great idea. I tried it, and last year was the BEST year of my life, because I made things happen. You know what's funny? Everyone kept telling me to stop looking for a man and I would find one. This used to really piss me off. It's a little like telling an exhausted person they should stop trying to sleep and they would just fall asleep... When you're tired, all you can think about is that you can't sleep - and when you're lonely, all you can think about is finding love... So maybe the question isn't whether you should stop trying, but *how*. And I think one answer is to search instead for happiness. It's to work on yourself. It's to throw yourself into the things you love and make you smile. It's to take risks and do the things you've been putting off. To try to grow as a person. To forgive yourself your mistakes and your faults. To start liking yourself. You may not find true love, but at least there's a strong chance you'll be happy. And isn't that better than being miserable in a bad relationship? So maybe you should go chase happiness instead of love - what have you got to lose?? I gotta admit, i think this is the best advice given on here. I just might use this myself. Thanks
