  1. I don't know you and this is by no means an attempt at insulting you(nor is it an attempt to hijack the thread here) but i can see the fear mongering has worked with you. Yes, the events of 9/11 were VERY tragic. Yes, lots of people died. However, to use this as your reasoning for being ok with the security screenings that we go through is sad, and, to be honest, frightening. The odds of someone dying in a terrorist attack are ridiculously low(something like 1 in 20million). Frankly, i think the crap we have to go through to get on a plane is ridiculous these days and it's scary to see how much people are ok with it and doesn't make the future of our freedom in this country look too good anymore. 3. Does that mean you'll be taking the fat guys and letting me take the skinny girls? Hell the bigger people i've taken have been the easiest in freefall so sure. as long as i get one or two skinny girls here and there. 4. Hey everyone thanks again for all the advice. I really appreciate it and i'm always trying to learn and be as safe as possible. I'm always asking for advice around the DZ from the experienced TI's but its nice to hear other opinions. I'll definitely be taking the advice here into consideration in the future and hope to have a fun safe experience doing tandems for a very long time. 5. Hey everyone, thanks for the advice. I truly am having a blast doing tandems and am learning a lot in the process. I will definitely consider the advice here and give some of it a try. 6. No benches in that plane so it's really hard to stand up with the student. some of the instructors can do it but i find it easier to just doing sitting in the doorway. In our own otter we have benches so we can exit standing up. 7. I definitely think you're right. Once i start potato chipping i tend to want to arch more rather than just relax more. 8. I honesly don't know. i was wondering the same thing myself when i watched the video. Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, all used up, and loudly proclaiming: Wow, what a ride!
  9. I've spoken to some of the more experienced tandem instructors at my DZ and they say sometimes the smaller people can take you for a bit of a ride. For me personally the easiest people have been the average size people. I will say it's definitely a learning experience but i love doing it. 10. Ok I'm a brand new tandem instructor. I have about 40 tandems so far. Every once in a while I get a student that I can't for the life of me get stable. Not often but just once in a while. I've watched videos of tandems I took up and I can't seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong. Now I know to take advice from the Internet with a grain of salt but I'm wondering if some of you can watch the video and see if you have some tips. I've tried arching more. Relaxing more. And I can't seem to figure it out. When I did the course and my first 20 paying students were fine. I was stable and kept heading. But every once in a while I get one I can't seem to stabilize. I've had maybe 3 so far that were that way. So any advice would be appreciated. 11. My gosh i know exactly how that feels. I have had 5 surgeries for hernias and, my god, you have no clue how much you use your abdomen muscles until you've had them cut open. You use them for pretty much EVERY movement you make. 17. I was talking about this with my girlfriend and she said that people have told her that guys have said they don't want their SO buying them jumps. I say this is crazy and that any skydiver would love it if their SO bought them jumps. This is all assuming that your SO has no problem affording said jumps. 18. wait... you skydive? i thought you just hung out at the dropzone to try and impress the ladies by SAYING you're a skydiver Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, all used up, and loudly proclaiming: Wow, what a ride!

  20. i was thinking the same thing, that it would be time to remove her completely from what she thinks is the social world, home school her, take her off of all those bullshit media sites, until she gets a little older and realizes that what moronic, clueless young people "think" of her means absolutely nothing. but then i realized, maybe her parents didnt have a clue what was going on? maybe she kept all these events inside until it was too late. think about it. one minute your daughter is fine, and the next, shes strung out on drugs an alcohol. im sure some parents who saw their kid using substances wouldnt try to "understand' why and would just attack and go apeshit.......... i know my mom did when i was a teenager. she didnt ask questions just went fuckin nuts and threw me in rehab with a bunch of old crackheads and nutjobs when i was a curious 15 yr old trying to have a good time this is a fucking bummer way to start my sunday. i need to go jump off a power tower. (with a rig) Her parents must've known because they kept moving her to different schools. To what degree they knew, i can't really say but they must've known something was going on. 21. i must have misread the original post then. thanks. Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, all used up, and loudly proclaiming: Wow, what a ride!
  22. i saw this video of a skydiver who apparently struck a plane while filming a tandem. i don't know anything about it nor do i know if it has been discussed. i can't find anything in the incidents forum. http://shooshtime.com/videos/shocking/skydiver-fatally-struck-by-plane-midfall_115552/ Caution the link is NSFW and the video is quite disturbing itself. Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, all used up, and loudly proclaiming: Wow, what a ride!
  23. My name is Ryan. I have no friends. I have no girlfriend. My family disowned me. But i sure have a hell of a time jumping out of a fucking plane! Who needs all those people when i can have the time of my life! I say fuck 'em and keep jumping! P.S. im just kidding about the no friends, girlfriend, family stuff they all still love me... for now Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, all used up, and loudly proclaiming: Wow, what a ride!
  24. just seeing the pictures really pisses me off. I can't even watch this again because it infuriates me that someone could be so thoughtless and careless. Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, all used up, and loudly proclaiming: Wow, what a ride!
  25. I've been pretty desensitized thanks to the Internet over the years but this video fills me with all types of emotion. How someone can be so careless about an obviously scared tandem student to the point of almost killing them sickens me. This is the first video in a long time that has actually scared me and has been permanently been embedded in my head. I certainly have mixed emotions about whether or not it's a good thing this is on the Internet. It could be good for new and experienced tandem instructors alike but could definitely scare new students away. I don't feel bad for the TI at all and think he deserves to never skydive again no matter what kind of jump it is. He had a complete disregard for safety and compromised the integrity of this sport which we all love. I hope all TI's can learn from this idiot's major fuck up and something like this never happens again. Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, all used up, and loudly proclaiming: Wow, what a ride!
