I'm ranch jumper in the summer and have visited zhills in the winter, and people tend to hang out on the dz at both places, i'm wondering if it'll be similar in deland. sure, he could have just gone in. I've never been to deland for mroe than a daytrip, so i'm curious, what's the atmosphere like after-hours? If there a good social / beer / bonfire type thing that goes on, or does it clear out after sunset like some places? HAHAHAHAHAHAH... really? wow, cause i smoke all but the fastest packers on the DZ (busy dz) and i flatpack... i guess if i start propacking (yes i know how) i could get it done before they even get to the packing area.. dude, i jsut went back in time!! Seriously though, get it out of yer head that this or that general technique is inherently faster, cause it is entirely about practice and finesse, abd about doing things right the first time, and cutting out wasted movement... shit what's one of the biggies right there... i still can't hold a candle to the main packer from back home.. well that's generally explained by the Icarus canopies gernerally needing deeper inputs. the "PD-Style" control characteristics (ie: sabre, stiletto, samurai, etc...) are jsut a different animal. You've largely grown up on icarus canopies and so that's what you're used to.... people going the other direction find the opposite, not that their canopies are twitchy, but that the icarus canopies can be more mushy. They're not, you just need to now how to fly them for the responsiveness they CAN have in the rigth hands. Likewise, the sabre2 and lotus are anything but switchy (try a stiletto sometime), but having 600 jumps on canopies with a much deeper control range will naturally lead into into over-inputting on canopies with smaller stroke. It also seem unfair to put forth such a harsh review of a canopy after suck a limited experience on it. It sounds like you put only 1 jump on it, and with the rest of the contributing factors i mentioned above, i really don't think you gave the canopy a chance. hogwash... if anything, "hands-on" experience can make a person MORE cavalier about packing because they know what they can get away with. As a packer i'm MORE careful with other people's stuff than my own.. i know what kind of leeway i have with my canopy because i pack it and jump it and know how it responds to this or that. I'm not that to experience the other people's openings so with them istick to what i KNOW works, not just what i've anecotally snuck by with on my own packs. A whuffo rigger would have nothing to go on but strictly by the book... and that could very well be an advantage. Also, I think whuffos are probably MORE aware of the consequences of that happens if they fuck up -- as whuffos are generally more scared of this sport than we are. it's cheating if it's against the esablighed rules of your relationship... you probably wouldn't have a relationship where kissing someone else was considered cheating... if you did, and you went to the DZ and kissed people, then it WAS cheating. This whole thing is very personal -- as in it varies form person to person... cheating is breaking the rules of the game.... the rules of the games can vary depending on who's playing, so different games can have very different rules.
