  1. About a year ago we lost a skydiver here do to a off landing. Had he checked the spot he'd still be with us today. I'll check the spot and exit when safe. As for faith in the pilot, I didn't know him. seeing his last 2 loads didn't build my faith in his spotting abilities. I'm not saying he's a bad pilot, maybe not used to the skyvan or the area.
  2. I'm really shocked nobody has said anything about the wear and tear on your reserve during repack time. Using a canopy (other than UV or bad opening, ect) for the most part doesn't wear it out it's the packing that does. I love my rigger and she treats my reserve like her own baby. Repacks more than age will doom the reserve. what do you think?
  3. hey Mike can someone put that on the net? Sounds awesome!
  4. Everyone landed on the dz. Mr. Mouth's student landed near the peas even. I checked the tape, after Bill Von talking about video, 8 sec between green and our exit. I'll keep the tape and if Mr. Mouth acts up I'll pull in the STA and DZO and work on his attitude. You think I should be concerned for others on loads with Mr mouth?
  5. I did have a meeting with the instructor today, I couldn't find the STA. We had a pissing contest, I told him I'd take as long as I needed. He stated he needed to be sure his students could make it back. I asked him why he didn't spot for His students. If he didn't like the spot as for a go around. LOL he didn't like it much. If it happens again, I grab the DZO and the STA. I would never do it, but will admit I'm tempted to mess with him, but will not for the students sake.
  6. as was said b4 skyvans are a little harder. There was a problem latching the overhead door. This took time away from prespotting. Tailgates (at least from my experiance) have the worse time putting jumpers on the dz. I've seen whole casa loads land off. As noted b4 i saw the first 2 loads, This time I wasn't trusting the pilot or his GPS.
  7. I has seen 2 bad spots from this pilot on his last 2 loads. (from my house, just a bad spot away from the dz) We arrived and was asked to make a 7 min call so the skyvan could keep flying. (we did, it was a 3 way) I didn't know the skyvan pilot. All three of us have been jumping at that dz for 7 years. (longer than instructor has been at the dz) If I don't like the spot, I don't care who turned on the green light I am not getting off that aircraft. NOTE: aircraft emergency is of course the exception.
  8. well let's all plan a time and have you all come down and play
  9. I will I just wanted to wait till the weekend is over. Also wanted to cool down a bit.
  10. my computer has fire wire, it's the stuff on VHS that I need to get on the computer. I saw a tv tuner/capture card at walmart for $50 will that do the job? It was by ati.
  11. close, they told the pilot where they wanted to get out.
  12. after seeing a plane load of crw dogs get wet (landing in the indian river lagoon) last year this time, I care where I land, however if the spot is a little to far south I'll land at my house :)
  13. ok I got a sweet wife who got me a nice new computer (2.53 pent 4)with a dvd burner. I have a tv out on my videocard. Now I want to change all my tapes of skydives to DVD. What capture card would you get and why? Keep in mind I'm not doing this everyday but would nice clean video and add music to the video. Help
  14. What are the symptoms of a canopy out of trim. I have been having my spectre spin left on opening. It is not every jump but it's more than 50%. Brake lines are the same. The canopy has 400ish jumps always packed inside and propacked. It's loaded at 1.2, lands fine, plenty of flare. I've always packed myself and this started happening all at once.
  15. I really feel for you all. I got a couple in yesterday. Both out of a skyvan, a 3 way and a 8 way. It was a chilly 49 when i got to the dz but warmed up to just under 60 Come on down to florida and play!
  16. yes I agree and we were prespoting. we had a man with 30 years in the sport and 2 with 7 years, checking the spot. It didn't look right. this wasn't 1st load of the day but the 3rd. 1st load put everyone off the dz (except for the wise group that demanded a go around). 2ed load just made it back. Our group is normally first out so it's not like it was new to us. And we have got out 2-3 miles from the dz and made it back when the uppers were blowing. trust goes both ways, skydiving pilots rock!
  17. Something happened to my group yesterday when we were jumping in chilly florida (I know you all feel sorry for me) We were jumping the skyvan. We were told the the ground speed would be very high. Green light comes on and we don't see anything we know on the ground. We couldn't locate the dz even. Now I have been jumping at this dz 7 years. Would you get out. It took at the most 4 sec to locate the dz. A instructor yelled at us once we got on the ground. I say bullshite. I've been on more than one load where the green light was on by mistake. I would never hose the whole load but on the other hand I'm responsible for my own safety. Gps is only as good as the person using it and I didn't know the pilot. What do you all think?
  18. Doug, give me a e mail and we'll see what we can do. I'm at sebastian.
