  1. well I like that standards as they are. However we need to make the cources more available to the membership. There is a lot of resistance from some in power to this. While I agree it would be easy just to leave things as they are, I find it very hard to believe there are not more "subcontractors" out there that can do as good of job as we currently have.
  2. only halfway, I need to do some research on how much the uspa sends on the nationals. If out-sourcing saves money why not. FSL has done more to help rw comp than any other group i know. Nothing wrong with looking at it. Just an idea nothing more. I don't hate the uspa. Just think we need some fresh ideas and a even playing field. 'Cept for that Buzz guy J/K
  3. How about all the money saved by not moving. With a leaner uspa the space they have will be fine. Expand the aff program to create more instructors. Make 180/yearly repack cycle top piorty. Look into handing off the nationals to the FSL. Look into allowing no more than 30% of the BOD as DZO's. How about canopy insurance?
  4. you might want to put mickey mouse and others in as write-ins, unless you are trust the people counting the ballots. How hard would it be to add their favorite candidate to your list. As a friend told me once "trust is for sunday school".
  5. when warping does the canopy sink while stopping? With all the canopy deaths of late I was thinking maybe this would be a good tool to add to the "oh chit" tool box. Someone is about to wrap with you at 200 feet or something like that. How low would you Warp?
  6. come now Tom, the coaches rating is responsible for all that? Or Is it the group member program that has so "helped" the new up jumper. I didn't start in 1979, I started in 1996. I never had to, never needed to buy a coach jump. I have more than a few friends that learned to skydive at a nongroup member dz. You know what, they could skydive just as well as the skydivers that learned at a member dz. You know the one big thing I did notice. Skydives at the nonmember dz were 2-3 bucks cheaper. The planes were in better shape, heck they even gave out free rubber bands in the packing tent. I do not want to go back to the 70's just want OUR CLUB back. My beef isn't with you I just don't want the fox watching the hen house. But you keep telling me how nice the fox is.
  7. Tom how many coach jumps did u pay for as a newbie?
  8. here in florida we don't get much wind during summer. On the ride to tude yesterday I remember a load of crw dogs getting wet here late Dec. I was on the load but was belly flying. Any advice other than don't land on birdshit island and don't land in the Indian River
  9. yea i hate winter here in florida it didn't even get tp 70 today
  10. well it was like 60 added for each jump. Part of the problem is some ppl don't want to give back to the sport but I believe there are more that will than will not. If you are a newbie, show up at the dz early. Show up at the dz the same day and time too. I think you'll find this will help you to get to know the "old timers" and you'll find yourself being adopted by them. oh and buy lots of beer for the old guys too! And do the crw thing too lol the real dark side
  11. well from a couple of dz's I saw they were charging almost SDU rates. I never paid for a coach jump. I jump at SDU's main campus. It's a good deal if your in a hurry. However at my dz I found a group of mentors that only asked that I share what they taught me. You might learn skills but I believe only time will build a well rounded skydiver. And you can learn the same stuff fun jumping By adding the cost of the jumps to aff
  12. maybe we should hand things over to the FLS and only worry about the national teams.
  13. we are a club, let them join the PIA or set something up apart from the uspa. This would stop the conflict of interest between dzo's and fun jumpers. I'd pay $3 more because in the long run it will cost us less. I do not see all dzo's as evil but I do so things like the coach rating as a method to add to the profit of dropzones. Remember the uspa is suppose to keep skydivers skydiving, not ring every last buck from the students.
  14. I think all bod members should join in...... as they keep teling us it's our uspa. From some of the things they have done the last few years they have lost touch with us. It would help all involved to build a better club and a more informed people on both sides.
  15. yes indyz, i posted that b4 he changed his stand. The issue goes deeper than my own safety but new jumpers on his dz that do not know any better. Maybe needs to be a bsr, not to have one
  16. One of the risks of having to many people on the board that make a living off of skydiving is the temptation to do what's best for Him/her group than the fun jumper/student. what do you think?
  17. Tom if a "approved" dz aka group member has a death would it not be more likely the uspa would be sued. I believe so. Better each dz should stand on it's own safety history. WE do not need a dz like on Fandango (movie) I could be wrong but last year the only group member kicked out was for what? Anybody? Not paying it's dues!
  18. might have been upset because he jumped at dz #2. It's not what's on paper anyway it's what you can do. Buy the dzo a beer and forget about it. If it keeps up find a friendly dz
  19. thanks all who helped explain it better than I could. Thanks Buzz for taking the time do do some research. This alone shows that even if you disagree at least you will listen and do the homework.
  20. please see in the gen forum under" ND Candidate available to answer questions " I asked Buzz about crw and aad's, lend me a hand as I'm a newbie at crw
  21. ***The Navy Parachute Team has done extensive testing with the Cypres during CRW. They took them in a bag and did down planes, drag planes and other maneuvers. They had no problems. They use them. If you choose not to, good for you. I'm not stopping you from going to Perris or Elsinore to do it. *** please share with me all your wisdom about crw and aad's. How will it save me in a wrap? I'm willing to learn if you have something to share and might even get my vote
