  1. youve been to st john but not st thomas? the only way off the island is a ferry..to st thomas.. anyways...i own property out there in st thomas and have never seen a DZ operation... how beautifull that would be tho...i may never leave. ***** I leave for St. Croix tomorrow without ever having visited St. Thomas yet I plan to stop by St. John early next week. Another's private yacht tends to bestow some access privileges, go figure. Hope to see you near the wall or otherwise, marine life rocks unless I s'ppose you're an Australian zookeeper . . . D. 2. Not to be a snit (well, more of a snit than usual), but your statement simply isn't true and most reporters would know this by virtue of their training. Google 17 U.S.C. 107, which provides in relevant part: "Notwithstanding the provisions of sections 106 and 106A, the fair use of a copyrighted work, including such use by reproduction in copies or phonorecords or by any other means specified by that section, for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright..." [emphasis added] That should give you some direction. It just so happens that I have undertaken a bit more effort in the copyright field than to stay at a Holiday Inn last night D. 3. One trick that works for me is to rent a car and explore the surrounding area even if it's only for a few hours. This way I escape the worksite/hotel room/convenient eateries monotony, which can wear you down pretty quickly especially if, say, you're from Chicago but you've been tasked with battling the Evil Empire in Winston-Salem for nearly two months straight. I've felt your pain, good luck. D. James Nahikian CHICAGO

  5. The legal costs were probably less than the cost of dinner and a movie for one. In fact, it's possible the legal costs were zero if the claimant requested and received a waiver of the filing fee. It was only a small claims court action for pete's sake. (and it may be appealed.) 6. Yep, it's like the JJT. So now I'm taking bets as to how long it will be until somebody rings the asshat's doorbell late at night but leaves a flaming bag of dog crap instead of cookies and well wishes. The smart money says less than a month's time. D. James Nahikian CHICAGO
  7. Not true. The suit was filed in a small claims court where the litigants represent themselves. In these types of courts non-lawyer judges may adjudicate the cases. D. James Nahikian CHICAGO

  10. Wave at the fat guys who plod past your office on their way through the park in the morning - one of them is me. Dreamsville and some other SDC jumpers live nearby too, and we connect at Mario's, Emilio's Tapas Bar and other local haunts. We all should go out sometime. D. James Nahikian CHICAGO
  11. Begin here: http://www.chicagoplays.com/. We saw I Am My Own Wife starring Jefferson Mays last Friday - I highly recommend it. Also consider Lyric Opera and Second City (I happen to live next door). D. James Nahikian CHICAGO
  12. It's something associated with Sunshine ... Temp hovered around 1 degree F today - now the sun is setting. Nothing left to do but work work work ... D. James Nahikian CHICAGO

  17. As it turns out, I don't know any Clayton County, Iowa, magistrates. Not yet anyway! D. James Nahikian CHICAGO

  22. Call in advance and have your hotel arrange a day trip by horseback through the Pululahua National Park (bring a light rain shell). Cost is less than 75 USD and includes food and hotel transportation. D. James Nahikian CHICAGO
  23. What this usually indicates is some guy who is unpopular with his ski patrol buddies got tasked with laying the radio charges. D. James Nahikian CHICAGO
  24. I thought you were supposed to turn off all cell phones when you're transiting avalanche or general construction blasting sites. At least that's what the road signs and FM announcements tell you to do, like when I've driven through Vail Pass in years past, since the explosives often are fired via radio command. D.
