  1. I fly hang gliders, paragliders, powered aircraft and skydive. Pinna is the Latin translation for wing.
  2. While SCUBA diving? Highly recommended.
  3. It can be quite nostalgic if you want to experience what it was like to jump a balloon suit in the old days!
  4. Ok, so here is an opportunity for a spin off poll. There have been several respondents to this thread that admitted to poor performance from their partners. Assuming that there was a physical attraction and an assumption that the sex would be good, just what percentage of those partners turned out to be a disappointment? How many times has that Adonis figure that had you ready to hop into bed from the first moment turned out to be a flash in the pan?
  5. One of the best I have ever heard was a buddy of mine riding just behind a cattle truck when one of the cows decided to let fly, and gave him a warm shower he will never forget!!
  6. Advise given years ago: Moments before impact 1. Transition from belly to stand position 2. Cross legs at ankles 3. Raise arms above head in "Y" position. 4. Brace for impact. The above steps will not save your life, but it will help the recovery team unscrew you from out of the ground!
  7. Hah! One of our co-workers came over from our Switzerland office and became addicted to the things. When he went back home, we had to smuggle Jelly Bellys to him packed in the servers we would ship over there.
  8. Well, for the best race in all motorsports, I will vote for the Reno Air Races. Think of the Indy 500 in 3D at 500 mph 100' above the ground
  9. But think of the lives that could be saved! My ex-girlfriend had a black labrador that almost killed me twice tripping over him while walking through the house in the dark!
  10. If nothing else I think that this serves as a good example of just how bad it could quickly get globally if something really lethal (militarized or mutated) managed to enter the general population.
  11. I bought a Tri 210 5 years ago when I re-entered the sport after taking a decade off. At the time I was looking for something docile due to knee issues, and have not had a reason since to sell it off. I am not an aggressive canopy pilot and it always does well for me. We had a terrible spot last year at our dz which is surrounded by grape stakes for miles, and it was no problem to sink that canopy into a small utility field. I could have probably sold it for ten times what I paid for it at that moment to some of my high WL flying companions on that load!
  12. 30 years ago was a period of gear transition. A lot of different rigs with handles in all kinds of places, all kinds of deployment and cutaway systems. Today rigs are pretty standardized in their handle placement and usage. Not as big of a deal anymore.
  13. It used to be about the most common phrase in the Parchutist Incidents section back in the day: "Deceased was using borrowed gear"
  14. 29er Diner at the Petaluma airport is great!!
  15. Let's see, prime real estate on the water in Marin County with unobstructed views of San Francisco. Anybody think for one second that the developer jackals would allow anything but top end homes to be built on it? A museum or performing art center? Oh, Stop, my ribs, yer killin me!!! Ha Ha ha ha ha!!!
  16. "If there are no dogs in Heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went." - Will Rogers Very sorry for your loss...
  17. Just picked up a new Pioneer receiver with a USB port on the front to accept an iPod. It takes full control of the iPod so I can use the receiver remote to control the iPod and displays the screen information on my TV. Works great!
  18. I used Starving Students once. 10AM start time. No show all day until around 5:30 two guys show up with a truck. Since I was only moving about a mile away, they told me to call the company and tell them that they never showed up. They then proceeded to move me out and into my new place in record time where I paid the guys cash for a third of the price the company originally quoted me! Whatever works...
  19. For the price point you are looking for, you are going to have a difficult time finding something new that also includes good quality components. Giant has a good reputation for better quality at their low end and value. They have a model called the Yukon in hard tail that can be found close to your price range if you shop around. A little on the heavy side for serious riding, but a good bike for getting around and occasional offroad use. Anything under $500 dollars is likely to be junk, or worse, there are a number of bikes out there that are designed to look like a mountain bike, but if you look closely, there is a sticker disclaimer stating that the bike was not designed for offroad riding. The other option is to consider buying used. You can often find good quality bikes on Craigslist or eBay for a fraction of what they cost new, just make sure that a condition of the sale includes an inspection by a bike shop to look for cracks or other issues. Years ago I bought a Cannondale Raven for just under a thousand dollars, it sold for almost $4000 new just 5 years earlier and it was in mint condition. Good luck!
  20. I agree, but at least you know that there will be an ending. It sucks when you just get into the story and then find out that they have canceled the series! (Surface and Threshold come to mind)
  21. Anybody think he was shooting for the Intrepid as an alternate? An amazing job done by pilot, crew and rescuers.
