Depression is taking the fun out of skydiving, need help!
theonlyski replied to MisterCrash's topic in The Bonfire
There are meds that you can take that if you find the right combination/dose can make a significant impact in your life. Whatever you do end up doing though, don't push the limits in your jumping/swooping because if you're depressed now, ending up in a hospital won't help. If you're in a foreign country that you suspect may be monitoring you, you can try using VPN's (NOT a PPTP VPN!) with as high of a cypher as you can handle and a very complex PSK and certificate (two factor). That'll slow them down a little. Fact of the matter is, no matter what you're trying to hide, somehow they can get to it with enough time and resources. It would be far easier to just fly out of a grass strip that has no security. I know of a few within a short flight of zhills. It's a dumb idea but makes people think it's more secure. I've received radar advisories for primary targets (no transponder) that ended up being a few birds. I have no doubt that a bunch of skydivers would get painted on the display. I've been meaning to get a tour of the Tampa ATC facility and if it ever materializes then I'll try to ask the guys if they see anything like that over zhills. 1,000 - 1,200 Standard Military Exit Altitude?

MC-6 is a steerable round that gives more control and forward drive than a standard T-10. They (at least for us) required special training in their use and fly a bit differently from the T-10 because you can control it more. Generally they're reserved for Special Operations because of the fact that you don't want to drop the 82nd Airborne into combat and allow everyone to control where they go, it's much safer to let the wind take everyone along a similar path that is just barely modifiable with a couple fists full of riser. Is it packed yet? Wearing a rig that hasn't been packed with main and reserve won't be a very good indication of how it fits. "I may be a dirty pirate hooker...but I'm not about to go stand on the corner." iluvtofly DPH -7, TDS 578, Muff 5153, SCR 14890 I'm an asshole, and I approve this message

Mine did it the day before my 'live' jumps during my AFF-I course. I pulled it that night and Vigil in Deland had one out and in my hands within a day or two. Mine was fairly new I believe, so your mileage may vary. Close, it was '56. Changed a lot about aviation once they figured out what happened. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1956_Grand_Canyon_mid-air_collision I stopped calling the FAA unless I absolutely had to talk to them about something, the guys I've talked to in the Tampa FSDO seemed to have an attitude issue when I was asking for a simple clarification. I'm not saying that they're going after the DZ's but if something happened at the DZ the FAA could come down on the airport/DZ for allowing unauthorized activities in the hangars. My hangar is on a privately owned airport so this doesn't have any impact on what I store in there, the owner even has several hangars with just cars or a boat or something. I'm not saying I don't agree with what they're doing, but that it could in theory impact skydiving as we know it, especially if some FSDO gets a hard on for a DZ. We do have 3 hangars at a local airport for our flying club, the most we have in them is a fridge and a couch or a golf cart, so I don't expect much from this to bother us, but we also don't clutter the hangars up and they're barely big enough for the planes anyways. If they're paying their rent, why should it matter? They're working on what will become an airplane. It also looks like they're saying all of the DZ's that don't use their hangar for aircraft storage but instead for packing areas and manifest facilities are not going to be allowed, I can think of a few off the top of my head that would be impacted. An issue I saw that was probably more related to the door itself than the STC was that the 206 door would always jam and fall off the track. I know it can happen on any door, but a roll up lexan has the issue more. Need a pilot with jump plane in WY this weekend

He said the RD gave him the green light a year ago, so it could be a much different number than the 170 jumps... of course the post where he posted that has been deleted by him... When he happens to come across a freshly killed animal that he then eats, I don't see how it's survival. I prefer Survivorman and recently have started watching Naked & Afraid as well. And while we're talking about are-you-sure screens, one would also be helpful for the "add friend" link, as it appears close to the link to look at someone's profile, which is easy to mis-click on a smartphone. I'm not against IPv6, I'm just too lazy to care much about it. I just flipped it on in my router but didn't get any prefixes DHCP. I probably at some point should register my own prefix but again, that's the whole me being lazy thing. Damn, I hope that that is the "before" shot. I'm at 39.94 down, 32.20 up. http://www.speedtest.net/result/3653534901.png That any better? Is Verizon doing native IPv6 yet? Dunno, I have the IPv6 stack disabled on my firewall. (Provided he took off from Venice KVNC) Depending on which runway he took off from, he could've been heading north or south along the coast line. Both directions are pretty tight with houses, trees to the south and a sliver of beach line. https://goo.gl/maps/8Lxtr I don't know the exact location he put it down in, so I don't know what they were looking at. Looks like the glide ratio on the plane at best glide would be about 1 mile for 1000', so if he was low already, he wouldn't have much time or altitude to waste before impact. If he lost the engine at 1k, he would have about 35-40 seconds of glide at max provided he took immediate action to get to best glide. Take away a couple of seconds of 'what the hell just happened' and possibly a couple more seconds for boost pump on, mixture rich, mags both and switch tanks and you're already nearly committed to the area directly ahead. I recently flew as a safety pilot for a girl working on her instrument rating. Before we launched I asked if she was good on fuel and oil that she confirmed she was. We flew approximately an hour and on our descent after she removed the foggles, I felt a power reduction (I was scanning out of my window for traffic). When I looked back over the instruments, the engine wasn't running and she had a look of horror, so I asked her if she reduced the power and she said no. I flipped on the boost pump, mixture rich and half opened the throttle and told her to switch tanks, the engine started back up. Had this pilot been in a similar situation, that low to the ground, they might have wondered what happened the whole way down. I wasn't there, I don't know what happened with these guys, but I'm sure there will be like always a chain of events that led to the unfortunate accident. Two tours in Iraq and he gets taken out by a heavy glider on a beach. I wouldn't trust the NTSB to save my bacon on any of my certificates. If the FAA wants them, they've got enough lawyers to run me broke very quickly and take them anyways. Would they consider it a demo jump? Probably. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4630303#4630303 IIRC the pilot got his license suspended for 6 months, while it didn't bother his flying much due to it being a seasonal flying habit, if that happened to a full time DZ pilot, the DZ and the pilot would be in a sticky situation and that pilot could very well go hungry.
