    Who Are You??

Well, according to some dead guy I am the following: Good morrow Kate for that's your name I hear. You lie, in faith; for you are call'd plain Kate, And bonny Kate and sometimes Kate the curst; But Kate, the prettiest Kate in Christendom Kate of Kate Hall, my super-dainty Kate, For dainties are all Kates, and therefore, Kate, Take this of me, Kate of my consolation; Hearing thy mildness praised in every town, Thy virtues spoke of, and thy beauty sounded, Yet not so deeply as to thee belongs, Myself am moved to woo thee for my Skydiving Buddy. Petruchio ("Taming of the Shrew" Act 2 scene 1)
  2. no orange kitty yet, but orange flames appear to be diminished. The ridge line of fire is still distinct, but the ominous glow behind it appears to be lessened. The smell of smoke is stronger though (due to wind direction no doubt). k
  3. "my" fire would be the Temecula fire that Michele writes about in her Arsonist thread. The winds have shifted and dropped, I am now directly downwind of the 20 long ridge of flames that are easily visible from my house. It's 10-15 miles away (more or less) and there is a long line of headlights driving out of that area right now. My list is made, but I can't find my beloved orange kitty right now.... kate
  4. The flames are now easily visible from my house. This is a "new" fire. A wall of crimson easy 20 miles long marching it's way west fueled by wind and brush. It's probably 15 miles away, and crosswind to downwind from me, but spooky none-the-less. location--east of Menifee (south of Perris Dropzone). A bumper-to-bumper line of cars is moving from the inflamed area, evacuees no doubt. I haven't seen (or now that it's dark heard) any planes, I'm sure they are all being used elsewhere. A long dark day in souther california kate
  5. Now Bill, you know full well that monsoon season doesn't start for at leaat a month, and Kallend, earthquake season was over in August. This is fire season. and they say we don't have recognizable seasons down here.... kate
  6. 9-5 m-f except for two 15 minute breaks would be just fine, thanks (now where is that neck rub again???) k
  7. hmmm, things Dom can do instead of posting: a) inventory will call b) go through open sales orders c) sell gear d) rub my neck and then, in 1 1/2 hours--skydive!!! (and pw all you want) k
  8. Go back to work no post-whore for YOU! k
  9. My new Odyssey has the low profile silver handle and I REALLY like it. Easy to locate, identify, and (in theory at least) pull. Difficult to unintentionally dislodge. Good stuff. kate
  10. Greetings PERFORMANCE PLUS BIG WAY CAMP, Perris, CA DECEMBER 11 - 14. Come join Dan Brodsky-Chenfeld, Kate Cooper and Tony Domenico as they lead you through a four day camp structured to enhance and improve on Big way skills. You will learn and apply the techniques of diving, floating and base work in this 4 day 20 jump camp. You will receive training on exits techniques from both right and left trail aircraft, tracking tips, canopy control in large groups, and just about anything else you might have questions on when it comes to 100+ formations. The proven model that the organizers use allows smaller formations, 20 - 40 ways, to duplicate all the jobs, visuals, and responsibilities of a 100+ way formation. 13. And I'd like to add myself to the WELCOME BACK ERIC! fan club list :-) Good on fighting the fight so well, now just keep it up and keep leaning on your world-wide support group. many hugs kate
  14. I'm here. World Records (FS) 101 a) you have to be under the canopy you are going to land at (I believe) 1,000 feet or so. The actual height is listed in meters. Reserve rides are fine, but do it quickly. There was a reserve ride on the actual record dive in Eloy. b) You need to live for 24 hours. This refers to an injury received as a direct result of the event you are participating in. Therefore if you are in a car crash headed home from the DZ, no problem (except for you, of course). If you expire from injuries received in a landing incident on the record dive, no record. This rule has been used (sadly enough) in Paragliding competitions in the past. c) The formation needs to be completed exactly like the drawing submitted to the judges prior to take off. People can be in different slots (two people side by side in a loop or whacker can exchange position) , but this is not practical for larger formations, so they are dirtdived and skydived "slot perfect". d) If you say you are doing a 327 way, then all 327 people must dock and show a completed formation "in control". There is no minimum hold time and the decision on what constitutes in control is up to the judges. Uh, I think that's all for now. blues k8
  15. What I've found with fall rate is a faster fall rate tends to favor a one point skydive and a slightly slower fall rate tends to favor sequential dives. The reason being that most people are more open to the idea of putting on more drag (sleeve, t-shirts, larger suit) than more lead (I don't need weights--I can always arch!). Both the GO FAST 300 way in Eloy and the 4 point 106 way in Crosskeys were done with what I consdered relatively slot fall rates, especially for the outermost rings, yet they were smooth and flat. People adapt, the trick is to find out what they are going to adapt to the best. Oft times I will start a dive with a faster fall rate and then ever so slightly slow it down later in the event as people get dialed in. It's worked so far. Your mileage may vary. blues k8
  16. Not a problem--I'm sold! Oh, you meant ANOTHER organizer... Well, it's as clear as day to me, it's physics. But Without knowing who you are talking about (honest) I'd say that the more formations they play with, the more the three dimensional aspects of the exit and first 3-5 seconds will come into play. It's like the matrix... It also helps having done most of the different slots on a 100+ way. My views on floating trail planes, being in the base, short diving, super floating, late diving, etc are all tempered by experience in those slots. Variety is the spice of skydiving. k8
  17. Re. Trail plane floaters docking before or after divers from the same plane. my 2 cents worth.... I find that a firs or second row diver from a trail plane can almost always take a cleaner line to a base than the floaters from the same plane. Peel off the floaters with the super floater from the lead and the first divers take the straight line to the chunk, often docking before divers in the lead plane. It works well, at least is has for me. Hope that helps. kate
  18. Orkish Name for Kate Cooper Bôrrat the Stutterer This name is for both genders. That is so NOT right.... And here I'm one of the most staunch supporters of middle earth. MELLON! k8
  19. Hi Derek thanks for digging up that website address and posting it. As you can see, the website is still under construction, as is the list for World Team '04. There is a FAQ on the site that gives the basic introduction on how slots are being selected for this event with some additional information on the event. Interested and QUALIFIED personnel are encouraged to submit their names for consideration. At this time we are simply collecting names and basic information. An automated application form is in the works and applicants will be invited to apply once this form is on line and tested. An applicant will optimally have participated in multiple successful 100+ way events. Participation in either the current world record of 300 set in Eloy or the past 282-way set in Thailand during World Team '99 will be weighed heavily as will currency and competition on the national or international level. The ability to have a good time and enjoy life is required! :-) Please let me know if you have any questions Red, white and royal blue skies over Thailand! kate cooper [email protected] [url]
  20. I have no problem with God, it's her fan club that irritates me. :-) k

  22. Keely ATT works well out here in the hinterlands. I've gotten great reception most places I've been. I use my cell almost exclusively (I don't even know my land line number at home) and it's great because it's zero cost incoming or outgoing. Just decide how many minutes you'll be using a month and get a plan that covers them. I also get great rates on overseas calls with an optional $5 a month rider. Check with other people who have cell in the area you'll be using your's the most. What works great in Texas might not in So Cal (or vice versa). I'd let y'all know what the number is, but since I'm not an "old hand" I'm not eligible to receive or make drunk calls. Something about not being around long enough to be received into the community... blues kate
