  1. Camp is over 25% filled, one week after first notification. Stop thinking about it and start doing something about it.... kate
  2. Doesn't it go something like "pretty please, just build the fuck'n donut" with sugar on it?" or something like that? :-) Just build the skydive Chris, and they will come..... kate
  3. Actually, I've found that it's EASIER to teach a good 4 way flyer to do big ways than a good big way flyer to do 4 ways, but there is a learning curve none-the-less. I think this has more to do with the good 4 way jumper having had more time with formal training and coaching, and being more open to learning at every level than being "better" than the big way jumper. Even the GO FAST 300 way had a hell of a steep learning curve for some of the team jumpers who hadn't done big stuff before. There was a lot of "dive, float, exit" coaching going on in the tents between jumps. Again, it being easier made the dive succsesful. It's all good, it's all fun. Do it all. kate
  4. Consider this an open invitation to any person who meets the minimum skill requirements (listed on Bill Von's attachments). No personal invite required, but we are limiting the camp to 80 people. First come first served. It's a great experience whether you have 250 jumps or 7,000+ jumps, and we've had participants in both areas. If you can't play, please feel free to direct others to this posting who may benefit from this course. And you know what, we have FUN too! :-) blue skies kate
  5. you forgot TUNNEL CAMP. Put it aside (give it to someone else if needed, I'll sit on it if you want) and reserve a slot in the first tunnel camp held at Perris. You will NOT regret it!!! kate
  6. BIG WAY CAMP, Perris, CA June 26-29th Come join Dan Brodsky-Chenfeld, Kate Cooper and Tony Domenico as they lead you through a four day camp structured to enhance and improve on ig way skills. You will learn and apply the techniques of diving, floating and base work in this 4 day 20 jump camp. You will receiving training on exits techniques from both right and left trail aircraft, tracking tips, canopy control in large groups, and just about anything else you might have questions on when it comes to 100+ formations. The proven model that the organizers use allows smaller formations, 20 - 40 ways, to duplicate all the jobs, visuals, and responsibilities of a 100+ way formation. This is a “no fault” approach to teaching where you are encouraged to push your limits while learning. Any person hoping to hold a world record in large formation skydiving, who would like to be on their first 100 way, or who already has experience but wants to brush up on their skills should attend this camp. Quite a few camp participants are repeat attendees, as they find new ways to challenge themselves and learn each time they join the camp. These camps can also be used as try-outs for upcoming large formation events. Your leaders will be Dan Brodsky-Chenfeld , founder of Airspeed and organizer of the recent GO FAST 300 way World Record, Kate Cooper and Tony Domenico, who have both have been involved with most World Record large formation skydives, including organizing the last two Women's World Records and being implemental on the World Team events as well as the GO FAST 300 way. References from past attendees are available upon request. Dates: 7:00 am June 26th through 6:00 pm June 29th. Please be fully waivered and ready to jump by starting time Location: Perris Valley Skydiving. www.skydiveperris.com has information about local camping, bunkhouses, and nearby hotels. 8. Greetings, DZ Denizens; What a great list. Thanks to Saskia for printing it here. I've often wondered how some of the foreign canopies performed compared to canopies I'm more familiar with. While the list may not be perfect, this certainly gives me a good starting point for comparing canopies and wingloadings. Also, for all the grumbling on wingloadings, I'd say that the vast majority of jumpers (yes, even you--gentle readers) are using canopies at too great a wingloading for their current experience. I've found that the "Peter Principal" of canopies is to size down until you find the canopy you can not land consistently in a safe manner, and then crow with pleaseure that you finally have the "right" canopy and that you'll no doubt "grow into it" in time. I'm a cat V jumper and I quite happily am jumping Cat IV and Cat III canopies although I have experience in Cat V wings as well. My wingloading is Cat IV to Cat V (depending on whether I'm wearing weights or not) I'm here for the long run. How about you? :-) Good job, Netherlands, for putting together this information. kate
  9. I believe the wording does say "in control" somewhere. Of course that is a subjective term at best and depends on the mood and attitude (not to mention morals) of the masses involved. For what it's worth, I've been on records that were held for longer than 3 seconds that I felt were barely "in control" because of waves rippling through them. blue skies, big blots kate
  10. Hi Chris FAI has constantly amended rules for all types of Formation Skydiving over the years,. Large Formation records used to have a time limit, they used to have to be held for 5 seconds, then it was 3 seconds. Trust me, your "lost" record isn't the only one, I've been on at least 5 records that were complete and in control, but fell shy of the alloted time limit. Was it a drag? yes, at the time. Did it make the record, when we got it, feel like a greater accomplishment? Yes, it did. Am I a fan of this change? No, I'm not, but ask me that question next time I organize a record and find out that it's held for 2.94 seconds (like the 132 way that preceded the 131 way current womens record) Changes are that, nothing more. They are not meant to detract from past accomplishments nor are they meant to demean future accomplishment. Me? I'll work on having all the records I partake in (or organize) to be held for at least the 5 seconds, because I like that timing, but I'll build the records according to the rules. Let's all proceed to build our skydives safely and in control, and go for the long hold. Heck, the pictures are better that way anyway! :-) blue skies, big blots kate
  11. It woke me up, 04:18, right? Like a true CA denizen, I rolled over, opened one eye, checked the time, acknowledged that the house wasn't shaking enough to get scared, and then went right back to sleep. I'm fairly close to the epicenter though, else a 5.4 wouldn't really get my attention. Woo hoo! First Earthquake in a while... kate
  12. Oi! I've been out of town and out of touch. Bill, you PROMISED you wouldn't share that video (you know which one) without my permission! You guys are just jealous that Elena and I were roomates in Eloy... :-). I still haven't seen the Life Moments thing. My silly dial up will not tolerate huge files so I'm patiently waiting on a tape from the production company. blues kate
  13. Hi all I would hope that I could get a copy from the Life Moments folk, if not, then I'll gladly take someone up on the offer of a video of the show. I saw the 30 second commercial on the website www.lifemoments.com and I hope that they do not sensationalize the Women's Record, but rather celebrate it. I am in need of celebration on this dark day with the loss of our sisters and brothers on Columbia. Since I'm not going to be able to watch it Monday, please enjoy it for me! blue skies kate
  14. Hellow DZ Denizens. A brief head's up to let you know that the film crew that was stalking me throughout Jump for the Cause will be airing it's segment on Monday, February 3rd. The show is called Life Moments, it should be carried on your NBC affiliate, although, ironically, I've been told that it will not be aired in the Los Angeles area. It should be one around 12:00 noon in most areas, check your local listings to verify the time and channel. I have no idea if it will be good, bad or indifferent, but they certainly got a good amount of video throughout the day and evening to work with. Oh, and a special thanks to everyone who bared their breasts and buttocks behind the camera while I was being interviewed to help keep me focused on the serious topics..... blues kate
  15. Greetings. I'm looking for someone who can help me find affordable yet good health insurance (I know, a oxymoron) for my company located in California. We need a truly affordable plan for all our employees. It would be great were it a plan that allowed employees to choose their own level of coverage (from basic to deluxe). If someone is a broker, then please contact me at katesquare1.com with ideas and suggestions. thanks much kate

  18. And let's not forget the annoying 80 degree January days. Sheesh. Winter should be winter folks. What fun is it if you have keep a "short and tank top drawer" active all year around? Oh, and having Mexico, the ocean, the snow capped mountains, multiple dropzones with Otters and Skyvans, and Vegas all within a few hours makes it SO FREAKING DIFFICULT to plan your days off! Frustrating--who needs that kind of stress? kate
  19. Oi! What am I? Chopped liver? I've worked there longer than any of the other stupid good lookings! And Quade---you'll follow me anywhere? mmmm. The stuff dreams are made of.... So, I wanna be part of the game too! Pretty please? Good morning Square One, this is kate!! Just cuz I don't always answer the phone doesn't mean I'm there, you know... And you can always request me. Mmmm. Requests..... Square One (and Two, and Three) people ROCK! There the best out there (and I'm not even in the least prejudiced, you check and compare for yourself! blues kate (lowly peon of square1, not even poll-worthy)

  22. Oh, I'm working on it, believe me. The head cold from hell plus inventory week = a great need to rapidly increase my blood alcohol count. And what makes you think that you started before me anyway? Three kate's? katiebear, and who did I miss? Bet I'm the only newbie though. I guess by post whoring (is this how it's done?) maybe I'll crack the next level sometime this decade. kate, uh, the oldest one??

  24. Lisa, save your money I have ALL the Orson Scott Card books (The Hegemon books) and I have Cryptomicon (in HARDBACK) no less. Remind me and I'll tricklet them in to you. I need these back though because I'm not done reading them all. Moving into a new house has severely crimped my reading schedule. Also, recommendation for all of you. Antone de St.Exepury (author) Wind Sand and Stars Hands down the BEST aviation book ever written. Run, don't walk, to find it. It's currently out of print and I've had a heck of a time tracking down copies of it to give/loan to people. Happy holidaze kate
  25. It's never busy on the day after Xmas so I should have plenty of time to fill out that huge pile of inventory cards... either that or post whore all day. OY! It had better be inventory cards, missy! kate, the cruel one
