  1. What is really amazing is that grown adults in the 21st century still argue about ancient folk tales from the bronze age as if they have any basis in reality. Onward and Upward!
  2. Have your rigger look at it, get rid of the tube stow. When I get a rig that has different stows of different lengths and elasticity I replace them all with new ones that provide proper tension to each stow. This is a question better asked in person by someone who can look at your bag once the canopy is in it. I am not a fan of tube stows, those things are supposed to break. An old master rigger once told me that every broken rubber band is a bag lock that never happened. Onward and Upward!
  3. I was going to guess a single keel dactyl. I made one jump on one as a main. Once was enough! Onward and Upward!
  4. Since Santorum is on record saying that sex is for procreative purposes (and therefore contraception is wrong), it would follow that women past menopause (and their husbands) should abstain from sex. Which means he won't make love to his wife anymore. What a dickless fucktard! Onward and Upward!
  5. A little trivia here; Lars Larson was a Portland news anchor back in the 80's in Portland and he made a tandem jump that was aired on his news show. I was on the load. So over the years he has been sympathetic to the cause of skydivers and airport access in Oregon. Since he made his jump 5 dropzones have been closed in the state. Onward and Upward!
  6. Here is mine, stitches came out monday and I am already 90 degrees flexion and 7 degrees extension. No weight bearing for 8 more weeks then I can start walking. With aggressive rehab I expect to be jumping by May, maybe late April. I was lucky it was a clean break, only one piece, and no damage to the femur or knee joint. Definitely a class 1 TPF Onward and Upward!
  7. You would be assuming wrong. The money they have been losing has been since they began their war on skydivers. Mostly from legal fees but also from lost revenue. It has been going on for years now. At one point there were two dropzones on the same airport. To answer your other point Hobby field is plenty big enough to accommodate skydivers and the other GA use the airport supports. This is a small DZ, not a multi-turbine large operation. I honestly can't remember what sparked the battle but as I remember someone complained about skydiving and it escalated from there. Onward and Upward!
  8. Absolutely unbelievable! They had a strong skydiving business that brought money to the airport and the local community and they shut it down and now they are trying to figure out a way to bring business back to the airport? Hello! simple solution; Let the jumpers back on the airport, sell them gas and whatever other revenue they bring and continue to get federal funding (free money) I fucking hate whuffos Onward and Upward!
  9. I would donate it to AutismSpeaks.org Onward and Upward!
  10. I have also jumped just about every type of handle used in the last 30 years and the monkeyfist is my current favorite. I also have two hackeys on my other rigs. If these types of handles are not secure then it is because of the condition or location of the boc pouch or because of the way the handle is attached to the pilot chute. When properly rigged and maintained these types of handles are very secure, easy to locate and pull. As John has pointed out these are the most commonly used all over the world. Onward and Upward!
  11. During your student training what were you instructed to do in the event of a horseshoe? That is what you should stick with. I can think of many situations where a hook knife will come in handy but a horseshoe is not one of them. Onward and Upward!
  12. + 1 I started doing CRW and got my static line JM rating about the same time and that was when I started jumping with a knife. It became habit so now I just consider it part of the gear. Just one of the tools in the toy box. Very unlikely I will ever need it now with the type of jumping I do but I still like knowing it is there. Onward and Upward!
  13. Agreed. I was thinking landings might be tricky but how would you get those tracks spinning fast enough to take off? I bet it was loud! Onward and Upward!
  14. Jeffrey Harrison at the Calton-Harrison clinic at McKay Dee Medical center in Ogden. He is one of the US Ski Teams orthopods and worked on many athletes from other countries during the 2002 Olympics. He did my shoulder (twice) and my wifes knee last winter. You will need a referral as he usually has a waiting list. Onward and Upward!
  15. This looks a bit tricky to land. Onward and Upward!
  16. I always wondered how the Oregon State woman's basketball team liked being called the "Beavers" Onward and Upward!
  17. Get the serial number and contact SSK. They can tell you if the 4 year or eight year service has been done, when the unit will expire and if it is listed as stolen. From the seller ask when the last battery change was done. On the Cypres 1 it needs to be replaced every 2 years or 500 jumps. On the Cypres 2 it is replaced at the 4 year and 8 year service. Onward and Upward!
  18. Why did they refuse to pack it? Was there something wrong with it? Did they inspect it or did they just turn you down based on age alone? The reason I ask is arbitrary time limits make no sense. Why is 20 years the magic number, why not 15 or why not 25? Either one would make just as much sense. Synthetic materials used in reserve construction last a very long time if properly stored and taken care of. I have no problem with riggers setting their own standards and sticking to that, they have every right to do so. Personally I will no longer pack 5 cell reserves even if they pass inspection. But that is not because of reliability but because of performance. Most folks these days don't know how to land a 5 cell and might get hurt landing. For the same reason I would not pack a newer model micro-raven 120 for someone who is going to heavily over load it. It would be much safer to jump a lightly loaded 23 year old Rascal 202. I have refused to pack reserves less than 20 years old and have packed many that were over 20 years old but that is because I go by condition and not by age. It is either air worthy or it is not. It does not turn into a pumpkin on it's 20th birthday. Many PD reserves that are in great shape are reaching the 20 year mark. It seems silly to ground a perfectly good reserve for no reason other than the DOM. IMNSHO Onward and Upward!
  19. This is what I use and it works like a charm. I have used the ratchet type tools before and this works much better and easier IMO. You can put the rig on a table or counter top and close it standing up with both hands free to pin it. Make sure you get two handles http://www.packingtool.com/closer.html Onward and Upward!
  20. Not expired in the US. If it is airworthy it is worth between $300-$500 depending on the condition. (retail) Para-Flite built a good reserve. I packed one last summer that appeared to be brand new and it was made in 1991. Onward and Upward!
  21. Didn't he endorse Huckabee last time? Kiss of death, Newt is toast now. Onward and Upward!
  22. Contact the manufacturer. Para flite is now DBA as Airborne Systems but they still service their old canopies and maintain records on them. (at least they did a few year ago, the last time I contacted them) Swift reserves were 5 cells. the Swift plus was a 7 cell. Onward and Upward!
  23. Newt just believes that marriage should be between a man and a woman. And then another woman and then another woman. Onward and Upward!
