  2. well put! "A man only gets in life what he is believing for, nothing more and nothing less" Kenneth Hagen
  3. I know exactly what you are talking about. It was especially bad during my AFF because I did the whole thing in 2days so i was walking on the clouds! Have a beer that evening and just felt awkward being on the ground.... I figured that was normal haha Now...more than 7 days between jumps and I am going NUTS! The next jump consumes my every waking thought..haha sky crack for sure! good luck finishing your AFF blue skies "A man only gets in life what he is believing for, nothing more and nothing less" Kenneth Hagen
  4. BARELY paid my rent this month, but started working some bullsh*t jobs on the weekends (on top of my 40 hr "real" job, single motherhood and school-econ BA) Silliest thing? not so silly but I am currently spending my weekends learning the ropes of manifest at my DZ to support this hobby and my need/love for it.... You gotta do what you gotta do! blue skies kick ass finishing your aff "A man only gets in life what he is believing for, nothing more and nothing less" Kenneth Hagen
  5. When I did some tunnel time before my AFF 3, the coaches had me put my hands and arms into the mantis position (which it sounds like you are describing) so I would pay attention to my legs and in doing that, I could get my legs into better position. with your arms in like that, your legs are basically steering ex. legs out=forward movt. legs in=backward movt. knee down=turn When there is no pressure on the soles of your feet and they are out of your sight, your brain tends to shift focus off of them. so a student will be doing everything right with their arms but their legs are just flapping around in the wind behind them (which could cause backsliding if the legs are on the ass ) or forward movt and possibly spinning of the legs are completely extended....... So maybe they want you to pay attention to your legs more? anyways, don't forget to ask questions no matter how small or insignifigant you feel they are and kick ass at your level 2!! blue skies jess "A man only gets in life what he is believing for, nothing more and nothing less" Kenneth Hagen

  8. It will be money well spent! let us know how the jumps go if the weather clears up this weekend! blue skies "A man only gets in life what he is believing for, nothing more and nothing less" Kenneth Hagen
  9. I finished AFF in July and I am currently working towards my A license. Most important lessons I have learned:: Don't ever think you know everything there is to know about skydiving (this applies to all skydivers even those with high jump #s) don't let anyone belittle you for asking questions, they were new and learning once too. Find a mentor, a seasoned pro, someone who loves to teach and will take you under their wing and show you the ropes. last but not least, take everything read on dz.com with a grain of salt "A man only gets in life what he is believing for, nothing more and nothing less" Kenneth Hagen

Thank you for serving our country and welcome back to the sport! blue skies, jess "A man only gets in life what he is believing for, nothing more and nothing less" Kenneth Hagen

  15. Actually it is the best policy. First rule though, be honest with yourself. Can't get there with others if you are fooling yourself. Unless you are very very new to the sport (which we can't tell because you are extremely anonymous) you have to have recognized that the social dynamics of the DZ are fundamentally the same as most other social circles. Sure, there is a little more openness to adventure, a bit more of a free-spiritied atmosphere and crowd; but there are also the same general tendencies of groups of humans to behave like groups of humans. People have favorites, peeves, fears, perversions, highs, lows, nuerosis, etc; and in general there is a wide spread of character attributes. One of my favorite sayings "Everybody has their nuerosis." Be OK with yours, give a little berth for others and theirs, and you can probably get along with just about everybody. The DZ is no different. There might be a challenge if you have a sour relationship that gets in the way of one of your objectives. I call that a Toxic Relationship; one you have decided to endure, but in which you are not honest. A good example is a relative you won't cast off but wouldn't engage with if there wasn't a blood tie. Those can be challenging, but the choice to engage and deal with them is all up to each individual. Going to the DZ doesn't change that; it is not a social utopia. End of long-winded pontification. +1 "A man only gets in life what he is believing for, nothing more and nothing less" Kenneth Hagen
  16. I used my tax return to pay for AFF....that is not that far off ya know, and in the meantime, working at the DZ is an awesome idea.
