  1. I got a pretty good deal on a new Volt 150, so even though there was very limited information/reviews out there on the performance of this canopy. This review comes after only 20 ish jumps on the canopy and after roughly 300 jumps on a triathlon loaded the same. The flare on this canopy is AMAZING!!! I made my last 10 jumps on no wind conditions and the flare was beautiful, a lovely little ground surf and then max, 2 step run out! The toggle response is light and very reactive. My volt has been really fun to fly! After 20 jumps, the openings are definitely interesting. If you have a 360 off heading opening, was it actually "off heading" lol? I've had 1 out of 20 on heading openings, now granted this could be body issue, so I am experimenting with this, but I also think it could have something to do with the closed end cells, every opening. Regardless, right now, I track hard, work on body position and get those rears as soon as possible, it's worth the fun of flying this really decently priced canopy!
  2. She looks like she was a beautiful soul, and her accomplishments were many!!! I was at the dz on that Saturday and I'm not positive but I think she was one of the AFF students going up that afternoon? There is small consolation when a loved one dies doing what they loved, though it does not heal a heavy heart. Many hugs to you and to Sheralynn's family and friends!! May her memory live on and may she fly free forever blue skies!!! "A man only gets in life what he is believing for, nothing more and nothing less" Kenneth Hagen
  3. I have not received mine. It was shipped out January 25th, 2016. I had received an estimated date of May 21, then June 6th. Now its July 1 and I haven't heard a peep. I did not make any changes to my basically brand new rig (had 10 jumps on it before the recall)...... I got my rig out as soon as I got the DHL shipping info and very quickly after the recall was issued, so I'm positive mine was not at the end of the stack. 4. I posted on fb gear page, and got hooked up with female skydiver with mutual skydive friend, so it's all set! I love this sport!!! "A man only gets in life what he is believing for, nothing more and nothing less" Kenneth Hagen
  5. Hey skydivers!!! I'm about to travel abroad, taking my rig, gonna try to jump in a couple European locations. But I'm posting because when I fly back to the US to JFK, the evening of May 7, I have a 16 hour layover. Connecting flight next day May 8 at 3 pm. Sooooo I'm looking for some New York City local jumpers who are awesome and want to show a country girl around NYC, offer a couch to crash on, and possible jumping, if time allows. I've had luck meeting up with skydivers before like this so thought I'd give it another shot. I have references (I'm not a troll) just seeing if I can expand my jumper world. Otherwise I'm on my own, and recommendations of things easy to do on a 16 hour layover at JFK are welcome! 6. I've jumped a tri 150 loaded at 1.13 for about 200 jumps now. The flare SUCKS. Not always mind you, but it really has a picky non forgiving flare. I'll get tip toe stand up landings 98% of the time and then eat shit the other 2%. there is a line modification (line mod 4.0) search it on here. I've actually jumped a tri 135 with the mod done, but not enough jumps to notice the flare difference much. The Tri is affordable and a good predictable flying, nice opening, all around canopy, but is not well known for its fantastic flare! I have a 9 cell semi elliptical Volt 150 on order now, so I am looking forward to having a little more flare power so to speak. 7. Hey Toby! Just talked to you on the phone, look forward to checking out your dropzone soon! "A man only gets in life what he is believing for, nothing more and nothing less" Kenneth Hagen
  8. Well they didn't tell me the reason but I assumed landing obstacles/issues. I have done tandems to help buddies get current etc. but I damn well won't pay 245$ :) maybe I should call and see if I can get one for 25-30$ lol "A man only gets in life what he is believing for, nothing more and nothing less" Kenneth Hagen
  9. Well key west is a no go, tandem facility only . "A man only gets in life what he is believing for, nothing more and nothing less" Kenneth Hagen
  10. Well I had to miss out on the tunnel in Denver, and I will admit, it was last minute crazy but I thought I had to give it a shot. But since then I have jumped at skydive miami.... And I am going to try to jump in key west!!! I am indeed a bumpy brother :) hehe. Sorry for the delay in responding, been super busy partying in south beach :) Hey Denver is only a six hour drive from where I live, if I could find a couch to crash, maybe I will just make a special trip for the tunnel! 11. I am going to see what I can find on craigslist I am finally at my dang hotel which ended up being even further from the wind tunnel but the airline is paying.... "A man only gets in life what he is believing for, nothing more and nothing less" Kenneth Hagen
  12. But but but.... It won't get me to the wind tunnel!!! Waaaaah :) "A man only gets in life what he is believing for, nothing more and nothing less" Kenneth Hagen
  13. Long story short, my connecting flight got cancelled, so ere I am in Denver..... What to do?!? Wind tunnel of course! They even have a slot for me....But a las I won't make it by 9:15 ( only going 19 miles) via public transportation and the estimated taxi fare is 40$ each way.... So I thought.... Maybe there is a fellow skydiver in the vicinity who'd help me out??? Anyone?? "A man only gets in life what he is believing for, nothing more and nothing less" Kenneth Hagen
  14. I have had one time where I had packed the entire parachute and as I was putting it in the container and placing the risers where they belonged I noticed I had not properly stowed my brakes As you mentioned, the entire pack job did not feel right, the lines seemed different etc.... So I got to re pack my parachute, but I also had a nice smooth opening :) "A man only gets in life what he is believing for, nothing more and nothing less" Kenneth Hagen
  15. While a check in system is a nice idea, it's not really practical in the scenarios that have been mentioned in this thread. I've been a traveling jumper to quite a few dz's across the country, both big and small. I make friends on the ground before I go up. My family knows where I am... I make sure ppl notice me and therefore will notice if I'm missing. I've done solo hiking and camping trips, same thing, loved ones know where I am, and my intended schedule, if I encounter ppl I chat it up, not just thinking about myself but it's wise to have a plan and to let others know your plan... In every scenario with the missing jumpers there has been a behavior pattern that led up to their absence not being noticed ie anti social behavior, routine disappearing acts etc. Not to mention a few have been apparent suicides. Sure the dz should care, and most humans do, but come on there is personal responsibility as well. If you want ppl to notice your absence, give them a reason to. Ever watch 127hours, great movie and just confirms the wisdom in letting others know you. Shoot my mom flips out if I don't call her back in an hour, and she'll call the dz checking on me if necessary! :) "A man only gets in life what he is believing for, nothing more and nothing less" Kenneth Hagen
  16. I could tell you quite the sob story about how my life isn't where I thought itd be, BUT you blossom where you are planted, you make goals, you live life, you love the journey, and you grow.... The "other" stuff... It falls into place or it doesn't , no stress. If there is something in your life you don't like (outside of comparison ) then you make the appropriate changes... Life is only WHAT you make it. "A man only gets in life what he is believing for, nothing more and nothing less" Kenneth Hagen
  17. You know sometimes we all get in a hurry . On my last downsize in canopy (and probably the last ) I talked to many many different people I've met in this sport. The first person said " go for it" so I looked for a second person.... Ect... These are skydivers from every walk of life with whom I do have some differing opinions with , but after much research on this site and thourough questioning with approx. 20 different 500+ jump number skydivers, I downsized, did 10+ hop n pops, and know I've got a canopy that I can learn without tragedy.... As for who to get advice from? pay attention at your dz, research on this sites, get opinions from many different "experienced" jumpers on the same topic.... I think it's sparky who said " you'll never know enough in this sport not to die" but really that applies to life In general . I've done some jumps with some "experienced" jumpers where they did some very stooopid things and I just won't jump with them again, and I can tell you I won't be asking them for advice... 18. I opened in too much of a track before, due to my swinging body position my risers ended up twisted under my neck. I fixed it and flew it home but it left a mark and scared the crap out of me, since then I make sure of my body positioning before I pull. 19. I like! Plus I understand.... It's been a summertime of sadness for me, but grief heals over time:/ "A man only gets in life what he is believing for, nothing more and nothing less" Kenneth Hagen
  20. When your covered in sweat under canopy naked you know it's too hot to jump, I think the temps were at least 105-110 and that whipped cream is nasty when it sours.... Could have used a licking ;) lol "A man only gets in life what he is believing for, nothing more and nothing less" Kenneth Hagen
  21. So where is the video? no evidence, but i do have my PIE pic "A man only gets in life what he is believing for, nothing more and nothing less" Kenneth Hagen
