  3. Hey, it's dreaming 13000 (btw, I am a hot chic ) haha. The same thing you are going through is exactly what I went through. I just did a tandem for fun....but I got hooked. I used the 2 weeks after my tandem to research the sport extensively, starting with the accident reports but everything from the physics of the sport (terminal velocity etc) to the mentality around the sport. http://www.uspa.org/publications/SIM/2007SIM/section4.htm read the manual, understand the concepts in theory, KNOW your emergency procedures, hang out at the DZ, watch students gear up and land, get their training manual. I am a single mom so I knew I had to be able to justify participating in this sport before I even told one person....Basically when someone wants to say something negative I remind them of two things:: *death is certain, and I fully believe that when one's time has come it has come, whether sitting on your couch watching the boob tube or living life doing something you love. *you have but one life to live...make it count. plus I can reassure them that I am not taking this lightly

  8. Thanks for the advice! Blue skies "A man only gets in life what he is believing for, nothing more and nothing less" Kenneth Hagen
  9. As a newbie I am curious what are the student activation speed and the pro activation speed? "A man only gets in life what he is believing for, nothing more and nothing less" Kenneth Hagen
  10. I finally did my FJC! I also completed AFF level 1 and 2....I don't believe I can even begin to type into words what I experienced / felt / learned about myself. I do know one thing, this is the beginning of a beautiful relationship. I am planning on finishing my AFF levels the fourth of July weekend! 12. I was there at Elsinore ....The day after (sunday) was my FJC...I was more than a little perplexed and curious about the situation, but some experienced skydivers there at the dz helped me walk through the reality of this sport I am choosing to participate in and the "speculated" reasons behind this tragedy....As I performed my AFF 1 and 2 the next day, I reminded myself of this reality, constantly aware of my cutaway and reserve deployment procedures.... My prayers are with his family and loved ones. Blue skies "A man only gets in life what he is believing for, nothing more and nothing less" Kenneth Hagen
  13. I was at the DZ, reports were that he had sent His AAD into the shop so it wasn't present for this jump and it was about 1500 ft cuttaway. "A man only gets in life what he is believing for, nothing more and nothing less" Kenneth Hagen
  14. I have given a lot of thought to that scenario...and I am still not sure how I exactly feel about having my daughter there when I jump. So far I have only taken her to "hang" out with me when I was gathering information for my first AFF level.... Of course to address the other concerns mentioned, I don't think any drop zone would be an appropriate place for any unsupervised children (no matter the age)... What ended up happening with your incident involving the ambulance, if you don't mind my asking? Just trying to get as much information as possible so that I can handle situations I may find myself in with the best possible outcomes! 15. I am in the same boat as you. Financially speaking, the decision to do the accelerated freefall has been a rough one, I have a second job, I am cutting corners and eliminating expenditures I can do without....all for this need to jump out of a plane over and over and over again lol.... We only live once, debt will always be there (if you live in a debt-based society ;) do it one AFF level at a time and make them count. (this is how I justify this decision to myself) Everyone needs something to strive for! Hope it all works out for you, the sky is the limit! peace & blue skies "A man only gets in life what he is believing for, nothing more and nothing less" Kenneth Hagen
  16. Congrats on finishing your AFF! I start my AFF on Sunday! I was initially waiting on others to do this too, but in the end doing it by yourself is just as rewarding, if not more! peace & blue skies "A man only gets in life what he is believing for, nothing more and nothing less" Kenneth Hagen
  17. That was an entertaining read....insightful for a new gal to skydiving *smile* I like this sport "A man only gets in life what he is believing for, nothing more and nothing less" Kenneth Hagen

  20. I am a single mother just getting into the sport, I am doing my AFF 1 next week so I took my daughter to the DZ and hang out there for a couple hours, watching and learning, both of us. I justify my need for this sport by making her as much a part of it as I can.....in fact, she can't wait to make her first jump in a minimum of 10 years! haha. Good luck! "A man only gets in life what he is believing for, nothing more and nothing less" Kenneth Hagen
  21. I had wanted to do a tandem skydive for quite sometime, just for the thrill and bragging rights I guess. I was very shocked at how little fear I experienced, even going out of the plane, everything felt so surreal to me, that 40-50 second freefall felt like 20 minutes to me! After it was over I was walking on air a bit and just happy....and that was it, I thought. Then a week went by and I really had alot of questions in my mind about this whole skydiving thing...so I began to look into the sport itself, studying the physics, to protocol, to dz mentality, the information manual....I began to think about skydiving as I went to bed, when I woke up, every waking moment it seemed. I am glad I found this site, because I am driving my friends and family absolutely nuts, they are sick of hearing about skydiving from me lol. So I am doing my AFF level one next week, just a taster to see if this sport is really for me and something I want to invest the time and money into! Blue skies!
