  1. The closest is probably Skydown Sport Skydiving near Boise, ID. We jump year round! "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  2. Yep! I was 57 when I started and have almost 6 years in the sport now. I have over 1000 skydives and have been on a couple of state record jumps! If you are reasonably fit, go for it. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  3. Glad you had a good time. If you're through this way again, maybe I'll be able to make it out, too. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  4. The one you didn't hear from is closed until sometime in the spring. If I didn't have to work, I'd be glad to come play. Paul and Denise at Skydown will make a real effort to get you in the air is you can spend some time there. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  5. I did my first jump at 57 and five years later, I just got my gold wings for having made 1000 jumps. Sure glad no one tried to tell me I was too old!!! "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

  8. Somehow, I couldn't resist updating my first post on dz.com. I apparently wasn't too old. Last weekend I did my 1000th skydive with some awesome crw dawgs at Elsinore. It has been an amazing adventure... great friends, fun jumps, tall tales around the bonfire. I bet the next 1000 will be as great as the first 1000.
  9. Wow! Skootz!!! A month and you just now realized the thread is here...... "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

  12. I started a little over 4 years ago at the age of 57. I'm almost to 1000 jump now, (only 18 to go). I'f you're in reasonable shape, you should be good to go. You might find you don't learn quite as quickly as you did when you were younger. But it's such an amazing adventure, who cares if it takes you a bit longer. Have fun! 13. Sure wish I could be there! Elsinore events are awesome! "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  14. How will we be able to get a copy of the video? "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  15. The load organizers there are great and work with all skill levels. Their pictures will be on the wall near manifest so it will be easy to find them.
  16. Yep, off landings are definitely something to take into consideration. I've done 4 balloon jumps. I only got to land at the dz one of the 4 times. The other two landings were wheat fields twice and a sugar beet field. Wheat is definitely preferable! "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  17. I did a tandem at 57 and got thoroughly hooked on the sport. That was four years and 927 jumps ago. I've been on two Skydivers Over Sixty Montana state record jumps and on the Washington and Arizona state womens record jumps. I even got my 4stack in CReW this past summer. That said, it does take me a bit longer to learn new things than it might have when I was younger, but I love the learining!
  18. This will be my 4th time there! It's a fantastic place to spend the holidays! "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  19. Well, I'm heading to Elsinore for Chicks Rock. I know there are a couple of CReW dawgs there. Maybe I can do some arm twisting. Abbie, here in Star keeps promising me we can do some jumps too, but we csn't seem to get him out of the pilot's seat in the plane long enough to do anything else. I'll work on it! "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  20. Hey Wendy, I have managed to get about 10 CReW jumps in with a couple of 4 stacks, so I'm not entirely a beginner. Would I be ok at your camp? Thanks, Pat "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  21. I'm doing pretty well! I've been on 3 record jumps since December and have added Skydvie Chicago to the places I've jumped. If you do IAD, CReW makes a lot of sense for you! It's a lot of fun. I've got about 10 CReW jumps now including a couple of 4 stacks!
  22. I don't seem to make it to the eastern side of the country. You ever going to make it west?
  23. Well, I guess I qualify as a latebloomer!! It never occured to me that people jumped from planes for fun or that I would like doing it. But then, I did a tandem as an extra credit assignment for a physics class I was taking. And can you say instantly hooked!!! latebloomer part??? I was 57 years old at the time. That was a few months short of four years ago and I haven't looked back! I'm almost to 900 jumps now and still jumping and learning. My latest adventure is learning to do CReW. Thanks to some awesome CReW dawgs, I got my four stack a couple of weeks ago. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
