Anyone going to Dave Dewolf Riggers course in January
DiamondGirl replied to reddn's topic in Gear and Rigging
I'm in total agreement that it was an amazing course, and such a great experience. I'm so happy that I had the opportunity to go. I can't even begin to describe the wealth of knowledge, and the extreme patience, that all of the instructors possess. They always came through with comic relief at just the right time too. I can't believe how much I learned in just a few short (ha..short ) days. Thank you so much to all involved for a great course! Niki ~* Quae Sursum Volo Videre *~ -

The advice I got was that it'd be hard to find after a cutaway. ~* Quae Sursum Volo Videre *~

I have a friend that is interested in doing a tandem jump. The only thing that has stopped him is that he's 270 lbs, and well over the weight limit. The thing is, he's not fat or out of shape, just a big guy (6'7 or so, athletic). Does this make any difference as to whether or not he can jump? Or is he just too far over? If it's a possibility, are there any TM's in the south Florida area that are up to the challenge?? Thanks! ~* Quae Sursum Volo Videre *~

Anyone know anything about student loans?
DiamondGirl replied to ryan_d_sucks's topic in The Bonfire
Federal student loans have a decent interest rate, but you need to qualify for them and they get sent to your school. The type of loan a student would get for "personal expenses" has a much higher rate. You'll end up paying twice the loan back. Especially if you want the loan sent straight to you instead of going through the school, which some companies do have programs for. The personal student loan I just took out ended up having an interest rate much higher than my credit card. Hardly worth it. Lesson learned. Besides, it took 4-5 weeks for the check to get to me. ~* Quae Sursum Volo Videre *~ -

This is what finally worked for me. Now I just get pissed off when my polish gets gross from cigs. I have yet to figure out a way to take care of that habit ~* Quae Sursum Volo Videre *~

Hello! Wow, tandem was a rush...what's next?
DiamondGirl replied to BerryBoy's topic in Introductions and Greets
I did my first tandem 3 weeks ago and felt the exact same way. So, I went and did a 2nd tandem last weekend. It was even better than the first, and I'm doing AFF during my time off from work next week! And yes, everyone thinks I'm insane too. I can't even mention "the S word" without my mom storming out of the room. Oh well, she'll get over it. ~* Quae Sursum Volo Videre *~ -

Please push tandem student, literally?
DiamondGirl replied to loli-75's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I just did my first tandem 2 weeks ago. Judging from my experience, once we got to altitude everything happened so fast that I wouldn't have had a chance to chicken out, even if I'd wanted to. Don't listen to what other people have to say. It's amazing and SO much fun! ~* Quae Sursum Volo Videre *~ -
I'm in NYC, and I can't decide which DZ I should go to for AFF (or more likely, AFP). Help! The Ranch? Cross Keys? Sky's the Limit? Skydive Jersey Shore? (or even another that I've overlooked). I'd really appreciate any pros/cons you can give me for each DZ from your own experience. TIA!! ~* Quae Sursum Volo Videre *~

I thought I'd be far more nervous...
DiamondGirl replied to DiamondGirl's topic in Introductions and Greets
Hi everyone! I made my first tandem jump on Sunday. Unbelievable! I thought I'd be terrified, or at least a little nervous. Watching the tandems from the loads before me walk back into the waiting area with these huge smiles on their faces just got me so amped, I was way too excited to be scared. On our way to the dropzone, my friend kept talking about AFF (this was also his first), and how he wanted to jump alone. I thought he was nuts. Lo and behold, after the tandem all I could think about was how great the jump was, but how much better it would be to jump solo! I've been looking into it, and lurking around these boards for a few days. My friend already set up his level 1 class/jump, but I think I would feel more comfortable doing IAF instead. Something about being alone under canopy the first time scares me. Any experiences you'd like to share? Either way, I just wanted to introduce myself and say hi! I look forward to jumping again (and again, and again...)
