  1. Hi, Can't help you with software issues so sorry for hijacking. Just wondered where i can download the Beta? Cheers
  2. I have 1500 jumps on my VC79 now with a wingloading that hovers around 2.5. I use a regular slider with the poppers as i cant be bothered with a removable, let-alone full RDS system (I fly camera). The openings are the best of any canopy i've ever used. There is no 'searching', just the normal Velo 'wobble'. I would describe it as a gentle wobble on the roll axis whilst remaining on heading. 'Searchy' canopies i have jumped tend to move around, sometimes agressively, on the yaw axis. My VC has never done this. Often people will say that whatever gear they own is 'the best' out of pride and justification of their purchase. I know many people who claim to have great opening canopies that i have watched open in a way i would never label as such. My VC, and my previous ones, have opened so well there is nothing else on the market i'd rather fly for camera or otherwise.
  3. I say yoga. No need to be ripped for any of them but a bit of strength , abit of fitness and a lot of flexibility will go a long way. Also helps with proprioception, which is more important than all the above.
  4. I'm much lighter than you (70kg ish), so while wings aren't a necessity for me, i like to use them to expand my speed range, power and to allow me to sit with even really light tandems. I have thousands of camera jumps with them now, but had maybe a thousand or so without beforehand. I agree with the others that you should really practice your camera-flying 'til you're spot-on without the wings before using them. The transition to using them is pretty easy then. You should be able to fly your body without really using your arms first. ie keeping them out of the airflow, tucked in. Then later on, when you transition to using the wings, they can be kept closed and gradually experimented with, without them flinging you up n down n all over the place unexpectedly. As for sitflying, again, learn to do it without wings first, then the transition takes minimal effort without loss of control, and you don't end up developing some freaky style that will hinder your regular free-flying.
  5. I reckon; a) Wear earplugs b) Don't buy expensive ones because; a) If you don't wear em and jump a lot, your hearing will eventually suck b) You're not a maestro and foam ones are not just good, they're good enough
  6. I had a similar accident. Xaos27 98. It has the newer lineset as per the service bulletin with altered trim. 2 thirds of my canopy folded up about 30 feet from the PLA,it recovered, then totally collapsed about 10-15 feet up. I had hooked it so had a bit of speed but the first collapse put the kybosh on that. What sucked was i've got a leg n arm full of metal from a BASE accident and i got slammed on my 'bad' side. The impact backed up one of my ankle screws which split the bone and held it apart. That hurt, believe me! Anyway, hope you are well after your accident.
  7. I find that 'making yourself big' ie stretching out your limbs. Helps to slow down the onset of the twists. Grabbing up there too soon is like an ice skater tucking up and helping the rotation possibly meaning more twists to deal with. Also, dont forget to check that the risers are even. If one is 'higher' than the other, grab that one and give it the necessary tug to even them out. That'll make getting the twists out easier and may stop the canopy creating more twists. And check both toggles are stowed. If one's released and the other isnt, you could be fighting a losing battle. Releasing the other toggle should help 'even it up'. Your disadvantage is likely to be not being able to push the risers apart which can sometimes prevent twists if you detect it happening soon enough. Happy flying! :)
  8. Had this one figured out in about 3 minutes after getting my suit a few years ago! I cut a pair of clips off the student gloves at work and tied them with regular shockcord. Wingsuit = unclip Everything else = clip Simple. It's pretty hilarious to be honest the lengths people have gone to to make it so complicated!
  9. use my profile pic if you want. its not really stormy but...
  10. ok, so i figured it out. I'm running windows xp. i had microsoft .net framework 2.0 installed and it seems like flysight viewer requires .net 3.5 or higher. All works fine now. Vista and 7 have 3.5 or higher already installed i think but this might help anyone else encountering the same message on xp.
  11. Finally got to use the flysight today. Used the armband method. Was sweet. Only problem is i can't get the flysight viewer to import the .csv file. All the files and data are there and are readable by online gps plotters but i keep getting the following error message; "could not load file or assembly 'System.Core, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified." Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers
  12. Slight change of topic... is there any way to change the internal clock for my timezone? cheers
  13. Ha, that's funny. i rediscovered an old arm band mp3 thingy along the same lines as your ipod one at work today and thought 'hmmm, that might work', and it does. logged in and you've done the same already. So simple eh? but effective
  14. yea but my box is sidemounted and i'd be worried that my riser might slap it off. There is a perfect sized space inside, but what i need to know is a> if carbon fiber blocks the gps signal and b> if it is just the top side of the FS that needs a clear upward view i.e. can i flush mount it if i need to cut the box?
  15. My flysight is on the way! I'm a bit behind the times! I was looking at the possibility of mounting mine in the back of my tonfly cx box. It has what appears to be a perfect amount of space for the FS that is intended for a larger battery which i don't use. The box is carbon fibre. Drilling and cutting is not a bother. Do you think i will need to cut a square opening at the back of the box for decent GPS reception? Is carbon fibre that bad for blocking gps signals? If this doesn't suit i think im gonna go with Jarno's idea and, in true skydiving tradition, knock something up on the old sewing machine.
  16. Hi, Can anyone give me an estimate on how long it'll take for my Xaos to be sent? Am i looking at a couple of months? Cheers
  17. Hi dude, Have you got any pics of these carbon fibre toppers? Also, a friend at the dz has a top mount flat-top bracket that you guys made for him and his rok. It looks pretty generic. Can these be made to fit my M1 or my Rawa? My other mate has emailed you about the possibility of having one built for his mxv too. Can you do that? Cheers
  18. umm, my gopro came with mounts. No drilling required. I thought they all did?
  19. I wouldn't recommend buying any sunnies without trying em on first. I've yet to find anything but flex-z minis that work for me. Blue lenses are crap for everything bar making glare worse and looking cool in photos ;) Haven't tried reds but pretty sure they're pointless too unless you wanna see the sky in monochrome. Yellow/amber are great for low light like sunset or dodgy weather days. The pros of dark and clear lenses are pretty obvious. Amber are good for nearly all conditions i reckon so i'd go for them first. id choose dark tint second (for super glare(y) days
  20. How about; Going without gloves cos you are only going up to 9k and its sunny and you're warm from running round getting ready for back to back to back to backs. Then forgetting them on your next jump which is supposed to go to 12k and figuring you can deal with it for one jump when you prob still have time to go back for them. (Doh!) But a long hold means you are now at 15k, the sun is nowhere to be seen and your tandem master is taking forever in the door while your fingers are seriously hurting holding onto a bar that must be at least -20C. And smiling at the passenger is the hardest thing you've ever done! On the plus-side, i didn't have a mal (dealing with that would've been interesting with unresponsive fingers) That was yesterday. My fingers are red and burning still today. I'm wearing my gloves to bed from now on!
  21. No point when flocking maybe. But solo or 2-way they are fun and easy to do and sometimes you might prefer to be heading straight back home and cut out the 180 on exit. As long as its safe, i say try everything. You know, mix it up and learn, fly your body etc.
  22. At least you may not have to look too far for your reserve freebag if/when the time comes to send it skywards, what with the handy collector on the back of the lid!
