  1. The problem is "good order and discipline." Most people I work with couldn't care less what a person's orientation is. The problem is that there are people out there who, when they find out someone in their squadron is homosexual, will find a way to discriminate or attack that person. These attacks ultimately lead to litigation, possible prison time for the attacker, compensation for the physical and emotional damage to the victim, the possibility that several people will be discharged from the military, and an overall loss of efficiency because of the manpower and resources required to process the whole mess. This is my view on why it's not a good idea to allow openly homosexual people into the military. The best things in life are dangerous.
  2. The T-6 did have zero/zero seats, but i'm not sure about the airplane this guy ejected out of. The best things in life are dangerous.
  3. Not necessarily. The ejection envelope for some of the better seats these days is as low as a few hundred feet inverted, but ONLY if you have enough airspeed, your descent rate isn't too high, your pitch angle isn't too low, etc. I wish I still had the CD of my T-6 technical manuals to back this up. Maybe beerlight can help if he's on here? The best things in life are dangerous.
  4. Actually, that's not true. The vast majority of it comes of Saudi Arabia. References? Blues, Cliff Let me get this straight: someone else has to provide references to back up a statement that disagrees with what you wrote, yet when you make another one of your own ridiculous assertions (like the one that started this thread), you don't have to provide any supporting information at all, except to say that "it's like the mafia?" Troll... The best things in life are dangerous.
  5. Not sure if the design is the same as the T-6 (a PC-9 modified for training by the US Air Force), but the T-6's we trained on had glass canopies with embedded charges which were detonated when you pulled the handle and initiated the ejection sequence. As a backup, the top of each seat comes to a sharp metal point to punch through the glass should the charges fail That said, though, the seats and explosives are designed to save your life, NOT to be comfortable! There were 4 ejections at Columbus about 2 years ago, and I heard that they were picking glass out of the pilots' skin a week later! The best things in life are dangerous.
  6. I'm actually TDY doing some training in Oklahoma, where they still have a bunch of stupid Bible belt laws about alcohol. The only place it seems where you can get beer that's higher than 3.5% is on base, and the selection isn't that great. The best things in life are dangerous.
  7. Indeed it is. Wish they sold it around here... The best things in life are dangerous.
  8. Oh yeah, I almost forgot, I eat hot sauce on almost anything. Tabasco, usually, but Mad Dog 357 has quite a kick! The best things in life are dangerous.
  9. A-1 with anything. Game over, mmmmm....
  10. If you're good, you don't have to forward slip! The best things in life are dangerous.
  11. I pass gas for a living. The best things in life are dangerous.
  12. Now THAT, is hilarious! "They'll see the big board!" The best things in life are dangerous.
  13. Whoops, I should have figured it was already posted here, just goes to show how much time I've had to spend on this website! The best things in life are dangerous.
  14. Good morning! ...wait, hold the phone! We have to post insightful stuff? I'm screwed, then... The best things in life are dangerous.
  15. You pay a price for the fun, though. You've got a TON of rules to follow, and a stack of books about 3 feet high to memorize. Sometimes it makes my brain hurt! Speaking of flying, though, anyone hear about those 2 pilots up north who overshot their airfield by 130 miles? The best things in life are dangerous.
  16. Good afternoon, then! Not doing much of anything here. I think I'll hit the gym later, then I've got a sim at 2 this afternoon. I think we're flying patterns and approaches today. The best things in life are dangerous.
  17. Good morning, all! I don't usually have free time, or coffee, but this morning I have both, so...what's up?
  18. Just use the "I'm with the airshow" line. It works most of the time, and when it doesn't, just DISENGAGE!!! Ohh.. That's just reminded me of something.. I was near an Air Force base.. I had flown there as part of the crew.. Anyway, that night we all went clubbing and this guy came up to me and was like "yeah.. so I'm a pilot.." (Like that was so cool I should just fuck him on the spot..) And I asked him "oh yeah? are you based here? 'cause I'm one of the techs from 403 sqn - I flew in today.. Maybe I'll see you tomorrow?" And that's when he had to admit that he was just a grease monkey like me!! Even worse - I outranked him That was funny! BOY did his buddies laugh at him the next day!!! HAH! Rookie mistake! Even if you really are one, you don't bring it up unless asked, makes it look like you're trying too hard. The best things in life are dangerous.
  19. Good advice. I would also add DON'T TALK TO RECRUITERS! I'm not saying they're all bad, but many of them are only concerned with how many they can sign up, and they'll stretch the truth as far as they have to in order to get your son to sign on the dotted line. Find people who are already in each branch of service and ask them what their experience is. I've had no complaints with the Air Force so far, just remember that you're likely to deploy, and finance WILL screw up your pay occasionally. The best things in life are dangerous.
  20. My absolute earliest memory of childhood was my mom taking me to the pool in our apartment complex. "Take my breath away" by Berlin was playing. It was 1986, and I think I was a little over a year old at the time. The best things in life are dangerous.
  21. That's incorrect. Witches burn because they're made of wood. The best things in life are dangerous.

    The Dude

Smokey, you're entering a world of pain. If you mark it 9, you're entering a world of pain. The best things in life are dangerous.
  23. When we couldn't raise squadron ops on our radios to coordinate different MOA entry times or low-level entry times, we used a cell phone at least twice to get in contact with them. This was at 22000 feet and 360 knots true airspeed. Yes, cell phones work in airplanes, they just cause a slight popping sound inside the pilot's headset. The best things in life are dangerous.
  24. +1 Well, it's time for me to go to work. I'm off to go be a peon, pawn of the government, and disgusting mercenary to earn my undeserved free health care. The best things in life are dangerous.
