  1. Get the mods done i think you'll be fine... If you want to start freeflying early on in your skydiving, not really a problem either, just get a coach (that goes for anyone learning to freeflying, regardless of jump numbers) you'll most likely end up backsliding, across the sky which is a danger to yourself and others.. Why somone has to have x ammount of jumps to start freeflying is beyond me, what a load of horse shit.... I looked at dolphin rig the other day with mods, and it looked good to go, the post on packing volume is great and should be listened to, my PDF rig had a toggle fire at 200 mph, and i always thought it was pretty bullet proof for freeflying and balistic testing, but a shitty pack job, put that into perspective. good luck with your skydiving, freeflying and all.
  2. I'm slighltly confused why a person would downsize if it was not for speed and performance... So your telling me that the problem is not the hp canopy size, its kids on HP canopys swooping them into the ground?? Then it seems that This is a swooping issue then, rather than a Wing loading issue. I say to you again, YOU need to implement rules at your own DZ to stop that happening, My current DZ has done so. I don't think it was a complicated thing to do. The reality is that we have people who would prefer to bitch and moan on a forum rather than implement real change at there DZ, either by talking to the Owner about there concerns, or voting with there feet. DOn't get me wrong i like a good shout out as well as the rest of you, but if you really are concerned than you need to be more proactive in your aproach. And the problem is not at my DZ, its at yours.
  3. I have to agree with the pro choice group on this, Looking at the (small amount of) Facts it seems that even with a canopy regulation being put in place, you will still lose the same ammount of people ploughing in, you may just have a larger ammount at the end of each summer when they reach that magical number and downsize to a 1.8 wingloading at 501 jumps / d licence. Adults make stupid choices all the time, be it chosing to drink and drive, speed, take drugs, despite the governing rules that have been put in place to stop that. Putting regulation in place to stop people downsizing may have the opposite effect, by increasing the ammount of people who want to learn how to swoop - some people enjoy the speed when comming into land - which would again do nothing to decrease the amount of injuries due to high performance canopys / landings. but imo would increase it. a possible soloution to this would be for each dz to implement there own system, giving its jumpers the choice to make a decesion of whether or not to jump there. If your so unhappy with the system then there is nothing stopping YOU from talking to your dz owner and asking him to self regulate whats going on in your back yard, if it works, then maybe other DZ's would tow the line. I find it strange that people who can't sort out whats happening at there own DZ, feel the need to poke around at everyone else's, when we may not all have the same problem. Self regulation / common sense is the way fwd.
  4. I don't like to make threats to anyone. However....... Your such a vindictive little prick its unreal, i don't understand what your motive is to put down every new skydiver on here, you've done loads of jumps, who gives a shit, it may make you a good skydiver, but it has not helped your interpersonal skills, your still that strange little kid you were at school, its funny yet a bit sad. Its not a threat, its a heads up. You know where we stand don't expect me to put up with a inch of your shit.
  5. Why the hurry... Well not so much hurry, but i have just saved $8000 and come to america to get good enough so that i can start filming as a proffesion during the summer months. $6000 for jumps $2000 for equipment (theres a wingsuit in the equipment savings) As that DZhero / child mentioned my skills are mad, but could do with a bit of currency, and i'm still short of 100 jumps before i "might" be good and at the same time safe enough to start jumping with tandems / students, etc etc. I've filmed a lot with my cx105 (every jump for the last 200) and know a fair bit about video cameras, lighting angles, blah bla hlah but have only jumped a few times with a stills camers and am a newby with any regard to that.. I need to start some time, so i may as well start now,.. whilst i'm poping out 400 - 500 jumps over the next 3 months. the rebel 450 - 550 all looked good, but the more help the better.
  6. thanks.. That is what i shall buy, i thhought it was a good choice, just making sure i'm not in the 80's
  7. Sooo many options, so little time, i'm picking up a new camera this week, and would like to see what the general concenses is with regards to a good camera for skydiving.] Thanks I was thinking of getting the canon Rebel xs??
  8. SHAT = '"to have just been for a SHIT" in England, Just so your aware For example "I was board so I shat on your lawn"
  9. 176 post's only 6 of them with any kind of advice... Good work.
  10. WOW!!! I have shat my point on most of your lawns before.... I laughed at pretty much every post on this thread. Keep it up Well done Bill, keep on doing what your doing
  11. Wow!!! my advice is for him to look at how he has set himself up and do something positive for himself by fixing his ep drills and his lack of cutaway on his helmet.. I looked through the thread, and have seen no advice, which i would want to take, or give, berating somone does not help anyone. I think they resent your statments and advice (not yours in particualr) because they come across in such an arogant way, people do not respond well to this kind of thing. Look at the positives here. he's alive, and walking after a mal, what else do you expect for a guy with 101 jumps, his cci need to make the call on his camera wearage... not you not me, he could be a skygod in the making, he could be making the list, WE have no idea, WE have never met him. WE have never seen him jump. I agree to a point, of trying to scare the little fucker, but if the guy never asks for advice and kills himself becasue he's afraid to ask for questions in the future, we as a comunity get nowhere.
  12. I'm curious to what all these responces would have been had you not released your helmet strap... I'm sure the responces would have gone something like... "your an ass for not releasing your helmet first, what would have happened if you got your reserve lines caught in your helmet" good job staying alive, good job staying calm. It takes a bit of calmness to think about the possabillity of getting your helmet caught in your reserve lines, and then unclipping your helmet to avoid it, for your number of jumps and first mal i'm pretty impressed. My only advice, which you can take it or leave... Is to think about snag points on your helmet, and a way to insure that you don't have to take that extra step in the future (unstrapping a helmet before cutting away), its a cheap fix to put a cutaway handle on your helmet and i hope that will be your next step. Although i'm pretty sure your gopro would have been ripped off before complicating your reserve deployment, i would not want to put it to chance. Well done in staying alive. good luck in your skydiving future. Sam C
  13. Ft and meters calvin, re read and get back to me... from 4000 ft i have a problem, launching from around 7500ft, my problem was never the first part of the journey, it was getting enough glide to be out of the trees for the 2nd half, Where the gradiant is somewhat less...
  14. Not from this height, i walked the route today, and the outs are just non exsistant fro 4000 ft, and with out the extra glide that a speed wing would offer it i think i'll end up in the trees on this particular route. I'm going to take a course next week in les arcs, they have a great speed flying school there. So the video will have to wait a week or two i'm afraid to say... unless i get board and decide to do the north face. Thanks for the advice and PM's
  15. Find a distance that matches that at your regular drop zone, on a day with those kinds of winds. Make a hop n' pop 3 km downwind, open at 2,500 m, and see if you can get back to the landing area. Or you can do the math. From 2,500 km high you'll be airborne for 2.5 minutes. Let's assume your canopy has a forward speed of 20 km per hour. 2.5 minutes at 20 kmph is how far? Then subtract the offset from the 5 mph headwind. Does that get you the distance you need to fly? I have worked it out as 2500m = 8000 ft, or there abouts, so 8mins under canopy on normal trim, if i set te brakes a little deeper, then i could get 8 - 9mins mins of canopy time, which would get me around 3kms, making it to the lz, with a few twigs on my feet. i'll get video, if conditions are good i'll give it a shot tommorrow. Wish me luck
  16. i'm trying to work out if a jump would be possible, the height of the mountain is 2500m and the distance is 3km to the lz, i'm flying a electra 170 on standard trim, with a wing loading of 1.6... and looking to launch into a wind of between 3 - 5mph. the first part of the take off site has a gradiant 1:1 before getting more cliff like, than continues at around 1:1.5 for the rest of the trip. http://maps.google.com/maps?rlz=1T4SKPB_enUS351US351&q=google%20mqpsw&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wl lac du carroley is the reference lake about 1k nw of the lake at the top The peak is to the left of the top lift, heading north towrads the town of laundry.. advice on trimming, and general feisabillity would be apriciated, thanks in advance Captain Crashtested Posts: 74 Joined: 15 Apr 2008, 14:53 Private message
  17. rofl... just the open forum bit, sucks to be messed with something bought
  18. And yet again, people will ignore the sub standard aircraft and safety in quest of a "cheap" jump. Change the record JP, its really quite boring, you don't have the balls to take your concerns to Lodi, as you don't have the facts to back up your concerns... As far as i'm aware your also not a plane mechanic of any kind, so you really have no idea apart from your own inflated opinion of how the planes are maintained?? You don't jump at the dz, or have only done on 3 occasions, during which time i'm curious did you mention your concerns to the dzo?? Maybe that would be an apropriate way to take this forward! It's a little sad when people with your number of jumps, use there time to put down other competitors, rather than be proactive with your concerns..
  19. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eaGIPvEYDmc Some Lodi landings for you.. 6:40 - 7:30 landing inbetween the vines and other off dz landings, due to not knowing my own power in my tracking abilitys Bill and Lodi are top notch in my book, friendly people if you make the effort, good boozing.... Glad to hear they have there planes back again,
  20. I disagree. I would doubt the Atom Legend R is the best container on the market. I haven't jumped one but I seriously doubt it's the best out there considering it doesn't appear to be in high demand. The wait was a long time... But the container i got is bullet proof, My rigger at point Zero has one, and despite being ginger, knows what he's talking about... Mines as comfy as you'd expect for a custom made rig, i'm hoping not to ever buy a new one again, but if i did, and the waiting time was better, i would not hesitate... I got Moon boots for christmas, i don't think thats skydiving related. i guess i could wear them whilst skydiving if it got really cold!!
  21. I agree with you, your a client who's just spent a great deal of money with them on a product...... $1.70 Times are tight in the us i guess??
