I was dating a girl in Texas for like a year and we were flying back and forth to see each other every other weekend. As you can imagine things got a little rocky after about a year and i really got fed up with her. So Labor Day weekend I was supposed to fly out at noon to spend the weekend wth her. Fortunately they arent my roomates, i live alone for a reason. My girl has had issues with them in the past. So, Friday night was interesting to say the least. I thought i would share this story since looking back it is quite amusing. Friday ended a really long and tendious campaign i had been working on. I was at a radio station for an interview on a morning show at 730AM and i didnt stop working unitl almost 930PM. My boss took his wife and me and my g/f out to dinner to celebrate that it was over. We had some drinks and food and i was tired so my girl and i went back to her house. My girlfriend lives in a monsterous 12 bedroom house with 2 other girls. One of the girls parents are remodeling it and turning it into a 3 family. In the meantime 2 of the roomates (not my gf) like to throw huge parties and trash the place. So anyway on the way home they ask us to pick up vodka as they want to make jello shots. So we do, and when we show up there is a bunch of people there and they are already drunk. I tell everyone i am exhausted and have to get up early for an expo and i am going to bed. After getting some shit we go to bed. right after falling asleep the door gets busted open and a bunch of people jump on the bed. As you can imagine i am a little upset so i started yelling. They convince my gf to wake up and go do jello shots and i go back to bed. This is where it gets good. I wake up again becuse there are 3 bright LED flashlights shining around the room and in my face. I am livid at this point so i threw back the covers (forgetting i was naked) and yelled "What the fuck! Get the fuck out! I dont want to play your fucking games i have to wake up early!" The the light switch came on and there are 3 cops in the bedroom. After a serious of questions about who i was and why i was there and which girl i was dating they accused me of lying about my knowledge of what happened. they said there was no way i could have slept through what was going on. I explained i STILL have no idea what was happening but that it wasnt unusual for me to fall asleep with loud music and people yelling there. At this point i still thought they were there for noise. So the cops start to walk out of the bedroom and one gets smart with me and says "Well if you dont know whats going on then go back to sleep." Still completely out of it i say "ok so there's no problem?" the cop that got smart with turned around and said "Anytime you have 10 polie officers in your house it's safe to say you have a problem." So i get dressed and walk out of the bedroom and into a warzone. An ironing board was broken in two, liquid running down the bigscreen, cups everywhere, coffee table knocked over, fireplace mantle knocked over, chairs knocked over, and 4 people had welt, scratches, and bruises. Apperently one of the female roomies got tired of being the "asshole" in the drinking game presidents and assholes. She started verbally abusing one of the other roomies then they started physically fighting, then their drunk boyfriends got involved. The girl whose parents own the house called the cops and told them the other girl and her bf refused to leave. The 911 dispatcher said if they resided there they couldnt do anything so this girl says "If they dont leave I am going to shoot them." Smart huh? So now the cops are here trying to peice everything together. Everyone is hammered but me and my gf, and she is freaking out and I had no clue what was happening. Eventually the one roomate and her bf decides to leave but not without their big screen. So right after i got frustrated and went back to bed, knock knock, a cop opens the bedroom door again and asks me to help carry this tv downstairs at 4:30am. We loaded up the tv and everyone left. I go back to bed. 30 min later the roomie who called the cops comes and jumps on us again asking us for tums. I flipped out so fast i dont even think she could comprehend what i was saying she just knew it wasnt good. This was at 6am. Around 7am she is still drunk and wakes me up because she was screaming on the phone to her lawyer, who also used to be her boyfriend. Fun stuff. I thoroughly enjoyed the Mario Andretti racing school. They put you in your own car and have you follow your coach. As long as you stay on his ass he will continue to excellerate. Good point. I guess i should have clarified. That statement really bothers me when i see it in safety and training or especially incidents and the person that says it has low jump numbers. There are two reasons that bothers me. First, that person doesnt need to be giving advice. I know we are skydivers and that makes us all experts on everything but some people dont need to be giving advice. The other is that it scares me because it comes across as cocky and complacement. Maybe examples would be easier to convey what i mean: "Well my dropzone is a cow pasture and we dont have low obstacles but I would NEVER make a low turn and ALWAYS land into the wind." OR "I only jump a few times a year and have never done video for back to back to back to back loads but I would never head to the loading area without a rig and its unexcuseable." I guess the difference is making the statement "I have never BUT..." is ok for discussion sake, and I agree Baksteen unexperienced things need to be planned. However when statements like that are made as ADVICE, it indicates a false level of confidence. I imagine a lot of the language is due to the environment. They are mad, they are scared, they are stressed, and surrounded by danger. Not the bets anology...but i find myself being quite a pottymouth in a group of skydivers as opposed to nonjumpers. (we call them "normies") I cannot explain this phenomenon. Maybe there is an explaination on wikipedia or something. Let me put it this way. So far, Q1 2009 is up 72% from Q1 2007. So once again this economy is not hurting us in the slightest. In fact it is helping us on many different fronts. So I am getting ready to ask my boss for a 50% raise. I know it sounds like a lot but its well deserved and not inflated. I dont want to argue about the amount on here because it's irrelevant. It's what I should be making based on what i am doing, my growth, education, background, experience, and its what the guy in my position made before me before i replaced him after he was caught stealing from us and a half dozen other companies. (And my credentials are all better than taht guys anyway.) So, I want to know when to ask. My boss literally just walked in the door from a week in Vegas. It was a business trip but it was also pleasure. Out client put him up in a monsterous suite at Caesers that runs 2800 a night and they paid for everything including a lot of gamlbing, dinners, drinks, lapdances, champagne room trips, etc. Not to mention our company made a lot of money from that trip. While he was gone I ran the company for him in all it's capacities. (Note I am already the second in command.) So, my question is, since it was a GREAT trip for him, and he is in a good mood, when should i sit down to have the talk? This afternoon? Tomorrow? Later this week? Thoughts?
