  1. 16km in 4.5 mins = 213km/h which is 133 mph... *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  2. Actually I have 'military experience'... but I don't think it helps my skydiving much! PM sent ref the Heatwave characteristics... Frank. *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  3. Not in the UK, you just need to have reached Category 8 on the RAPS system or completed AFF and consols, and got CH1. The BPA Ops Manual does require licenced skydivers (A or above) to wear a hook knife. Most DZs do not allow students to wear one on the simple basis that it is more likely to do harm than good - like putting nitrous oxide in a learner drivers car. *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  4. Yep. Me. People doing unpredictable sashaying turns, no matter how 'not sharp' their turns are when they are in the landing pattern, particularly below 200ft is dangerous whether you have 10 or 100 canopies in the air. I for one have had to make flat and flare turns at very low altitudes to avoid some numpty making a non-sharp turn just to land that bit closer to the runway crossing point. Happily our accuracy jumpers have their own area to play in...
  5. I wouldn't be too negative about going over to Spain or the US to get qualified, but make sure before you go that you know what you are getting. There is at least one student training organisation that advertises 'We can teach you AFF, we have BPA qualified instructors' - which is a true statement because they have BPA qualified RAPS instructors who are USPA qualified AFF instructors. They are not lying but you may not be getting what you thought you were. If you want to be sure of getting a BPA qual AFFI, ask for that exact thing in writing before you spend any cash. *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  6. Assuming it is still at KV, that is not very near Prague. And having gone in 2004 I can safely say that I will not be going again. It wasn't exactly a real boogie - more a concentrated AFF and WARP camp. *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  7. It is really embarrassing seeing the 'compensation culture' taking hold here in the UK... I feel for their loss, but money won't make her come back. If there was any negligence the investigation will find it and the authorities will punish it. Some BS litigation suit is not the answer. *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  8. I was also going to say, get a coach! They will be able to help you with all that stuff. Also, the article (which you have probably read) on the home page here on team dynamics is very interesting. It may not help you to form a team, but knowing how the team will progress through the four stages may well help your team stay together. And the team that stays together, medals together! *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  9. The intentional cutaway systems? I could be wrong since I haven't seen one for a while but I thought one of the canopies in that setup was belly mounted rather than in the rig? As for a three canopy rig, to be honest I can't see the point. Two gives you a good chance, more than that would hike the maintenance expense, require changes to the AADs and can you imagine an accidental '3 out' situation?! I think two is enough. Just my opinion. *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  10. Perhaps he was talking about the 11 cell prototype I have heard mentioned? There are already four Neos in use at my DZ... And they have been there since May! *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  11. Damn - beaten to it! I was just going to say, I've got no issues with i, and can I have the Crossfire when you are done? Presumably it is about a 109 or smaller - it would be a bit weak to jump anything larger at 65 jumps. Real men are sub-100 sqft by 50 jumps! *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  12. From http://www.paragear.com Safire2 139 - 386 Cu In Pilot 132 - 368 Cu In They don't have the pack volumes for all manufacturers, but most of the biggies are there. *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  13. Sounds like you won't need it for about six months anyway with the jump currency you reckon you will manage! But it is worth the wait to get really good gear which fits you - time to forget the discomfort of those student containers... If you are spending time at Hinton, why not pop over to see Maddy at DZ Sports - she will be able to give you some answers and chat about them.
  14. Actually I had heard the same thing, although since I have never seen an RSL on a Teardrop I can neither confirm nor deny - perhaps this is why they are so rare?! I tried to check the TSE website but can't access it as I don't have flash software. If true, it seems like a great way to lose fingers / teeth as the handle comes out propelled by your departing main... Is there anyone out there from the company who can give the lowdown truth on the TSE RSL system? *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  15. You might have to shave the beard for wearing miniskirts, or people would look at you funny... You coming to Empuria again this year? *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  16. Awww Dolph, you're so in touch with your feminine side. So poetic! *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  17. This doesn't answer your question, but may provide some other help. The brand new(ish) FS coach and student manuals from the BPA are available online at http://www.bpa.org.uk/trainingmanuals.htm They were written by Aaron Faith from the UK 4-Way Team and contain a lot of info about body position... May be of interest... *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  18. They only have ONE rigger? I mean I knew there were cuts but I didn't realise it was that bad! *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  19. There are lots of answers to this! One of these (I am sure you will get plenty of others) is that if you have to use your toggles to pull you back under the canopy at the end of a turn in order to land with the canopy above your head, you were too low. You should be able to have your toggles all the way up for 7-10 secs prior to landing, giving you max speed (and power/lift) for your flare. Try it up high - find out how much altitude you lose on your canopy at your wingloading in 7-10 secs without pulling the toggles at all. Obviously don't crash into anyone while doing this! The best answer is to go on a canopy coaching course where all this stuff is covered but I accept that may not be an option for you right now. *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  20. Fixed it for you! I flippin' hope it acts as an altimeter (audible) or maybe I have just been lucky with the 'random' beep timing for the last three years... *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  21. In order... To AFFI Fair one - sorry. Perhaps less coffee for me in future! To Meistwer Me either - that is kind of my point. I wouldnt seek to generalise or re-write policy at my experience level, let alone less. To Bigway I think we are getting away from the purpose of the thread here and the FS1 v FF question is always going to be a heated one since it is all about opinion. Personally I agree with gear checks, they save lives. I also agree with signing back in, but not with (public) bollockings when you don't - a quiet word should be enough. I strongly disagree (as do you) with the FF before FS exit order. It is not the policy at my DZ though, which is nice and on the very few occasions when JMs have tried to send the FF out first I have objected and it has been altered. Inexperienced I may be in the bigger picture but its my life so I will speak up, not stay silent on issues like this. Promoting a 'sheep' culture on a DZ where people will not bring safety problems like this into the open for fear of being shouted down is sure counter-productive in safety terms? *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  22. He has the right to claim that all British Skydivers think in a certain way? I think not. How many of those skydivers does he actually know / jump with? If he had several thousand jumps then probably quite a few and he might be qualified to make that sort of generalisation. With his experience level I suggest that he has not met that many UK skydivers, so should not generalise. I would certainly not want him to think that I was happy to do, unthinking, whatever I am told. So yes, I do object to that statement. As for electing the BPA committee, 624 BPA members elected the council, not all 5000... but that is a whole different thread... *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  23. If you filled in your profile and let us know where those DZs are, there may well be someone on here who can help you out with the wrist strap etc. Real face to face solutions are almost always better than random chat on the internet! If you are UK based, there are plenty of us here who jump at the 'military' DZs... *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  24. Not what the ops manual says: For just doing non-FS training fun jumping, by the letter of the law, no you probably don't. Try it though and see how amused your CCI is... or isn't *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  25. At the last count there were approximately 5000 registered skydivers in the UK. You are one. And if your jump numbers are up to date, not a very experienced one. Speak for yourself. *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
