  1. Don't give up just yet! I had this exact problem with my PC109 about 2 years ago. Lacking anyone to ask for advice and having just encountered some 'industrial haze' on an earlier load I reckoned on damp in the machine... and left it open to dry all day. Next day, no problems. And one dive which seemed to have recorded with bars across it then showed clear (although another did not change). I guess the question is whether this is an ongoing problem or a one off. For the record, the same camera is still going strong 2 years on... *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  2. I'm with Diablopilot on this one. I was going to suggest about E1700 max, and I think that would be quite generous. Given the age of the gear, it is likely that there are quite a few jumps on it so as mentioned there is not only the Cypres service etc to look forward to, but also new line sets, checks on the PC, risers, links. Time to look elsewhere I suggest... sorry! DZ.com classifieds? Remember that my opinion is worth what you paid for it... *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  3. You may be right. I think it would be best for someone who thinks they have spotted a potentially fatal mistake on someone elses gear, but isn't sure, to say nothing. That way they won't risk being made to feel stupid. And if it was a mistake and someone dies, at least they'll have the satisfaction of knowing that they did notice something which had passed a far more experienced jumper by... Or maybe they could say something and get a pleasant response even if it was nothing...? *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  4. Cheers - worth knowing. After reading that we could borrow lead in Empuria we decided to just take the belts. Then got out there and found out that there were only about 2lbs of loaner lead there. Oops. So the guys had to buy some. Oh well. You live and learn... *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  5. Cheers All! I can see how they might not like it much, but yes - we are going to Empuria so I guess we'll take empty belts and try to borrow some lead out there. Thanks!
  6. Has anybody had any experience with taking weight from weightbelts on as hand luggage / carry on or in their coat pockets? This is mainly to get around the Ryanair weight restrictions! Not too keen on trying to get some lead when we arrive. Yes, I have done a search and no, nothing obvious appeared to answer this question!! *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  7. Your perception is incorrect. You need to look around some more, before deciding that I'm "obsessed" about the UK and guns. Just today I've posted about: - Newlyweds: Moonglo & Luminous - Google Analytics? - MAD - Another Senator Headed to Prison? - President Bush is at Camp David right now. And I've read far more, without being moved to contribute. None of those topics have anything to do with the UK or with guns. Imagine that. Do you ever post about skydiving? Surely with 4500 jumps you have something useful to contribute? *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  8. Bear in mind that prices are generally higher in the UK to reflect the VAT that we have paid for the new gear... There is some really cheap gear out there, but it is mostly pretty nasty. For something with an AAD (mandatory for A licence and below if I remember correctly) and freefly friendly you are probably looking at £1500 ball park figure. *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  9. No winter sports? Tash you tease! What impressed me about the company was the detail. The website specifically includes: No jump number limit Jumps of any discipline (how many insurers know that there is more than one?!) Up to and including amateur competition level I hope never to call on them, but so far the deal is sweet...
  10. That does sound delicious. But I like to sprinkle some herbs in during the cooking process. Perhaps some rosemary?
  11. Etravelinsure.com Details are on the BPA website. Their knowledge of the sport seemed significantly greater than most other insurers (you'll see what I mean) and I paid £81 for the year worldwide. It would have been less but I included winter sports and took the all bells and whistles gold version. *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  12. If it is the same helmet that I see on the sunshine factory website with audible 'bulges' on each side, my personal immediate response would be... get a different helmet. Sorry. I don't think that compromising the structure of your helmet by cutting large chunks out of it is a good idea. You might get some more responses to this in the camera forum? *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  13. Didn't you know? Anything over 53sqft is just a bit gay. Don't worry, you'll get there! *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  14. That info does kind of change things! I am not sure what the problem is then - jump your 'new' canopy a lot over the summer and get used to it, then take it to the boogie and be careful! Something to bear in mind at the Boogie of course is that not only are there a lot more canopies, but 1. Other canopy pilots come from DZs which may have conflicting landing patterns that these guys are used to so be expecting people to come from the 'wrong' direction. 2. People do tend to put their 'holiday' heads on and not necessarily apply the same safety rules as they would at home. 3. As at any new location, you will not be fully orientated to the ground so there is a temptation to spend more time looking at the ground rather than checking your airspace - resist it because you can be damn sure that there are other people in the same position, and two people paying more attention to the ground than their airspace is not a good thing! Enjoy...
  15. You might want to ask about tracking dive technique in the FF forum, but what I can say is that you shouldn't confuse the sort of delta, steep track that you do on a tracking dive with the very floaty and fast flat track that one uses at the end of an RW jump to gain maximum distance for minimum height loss while getting away from the formation. Two very different skills / modes of bodyflight. *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  16. Have they died because of the impact of the collision? Not really.... They died, because of the low cut-away. I don't know about the incident report that you are discussing, but be sure that hitting an inflated/inflating canopy has killed people on its own before. I was there when this happened in Espace 2004. Be under no illusions that hitting a canopy whilst still in freefall can cause severe injuries and/or death. *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  17. You're quite right. I refuse to get out if I am out by a couple of hundred metres. I'm not sure I could make that up under canopy. New Mexico to San Diego on the other hand, you just pull high surely? Now New Mexico to Denver, that would be a challenge. *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  18. Easy with the personal comments about my logic! I guess we will have to agree to disagree. I do not consider line twists on a student canopy to be a malfunction. Because no, on looking up and seeing line twists after exiting at 3500ft on a static line, I would not be expecting to chop that canopy. Maybe you would, and that would be your call since you were clearly trained differently to me. Nuff said. *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  19. Because it can be fixed. I would not expect to chop a line twist on a Skymaster or Manta (or similar student canopy) Not to confuse this issue with line twists on a HP elliptical handkerchief. The official malfunctions are, after all, listed in the FJC... and line twists are not amongst them. *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  20. No worries - just something to think about.
  21. I didn't know that this could be overcome? what is the widget and do you know if it will work on a PC106E as well? Any idea on price? *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  22. For slow, sweet openings, I'm surprised that no-one has mentioned the Crossfire2 from Icarus? Unless of course you would suffer from the same problem as with the Stilletto and suffer accordingly!! *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  23. Of course, since you have not started yet you don't really have an instructor to ask... I recommend that you don't worry about it too much. If you want to practise anything, practise breathing exercises to relax you! Anything else would probably be looking too far into the future. Don't worry - they'll make sure that you know what to do before you get out of the plane! *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  24. Actually the stock strap appears to have changed - my camera helmet came with the seat belt type clip which was tough to open in any conditions (I got rid of it whe I fitted the chin cup). The one that I won in the Empuria Xmas draw has a really basic standard clip which is quite different. *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  25. Surely did. I have a parasport italia C bracket on the left, with a PC 109 mounted in it in a camera condom. I also rans a hypoxic hypeye to it although that is a recent addition. I also fitted the PSI chin cup which is ok. Of course I had about 400 jumps when I did all of that but that is probably not something that you want to think about... If your profile is correct, can I suggest that you take a look at this thread...
