  1. If you take that on, then you can really 'Cutaway' *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  2. Can someone take me off the next lift? I'm not going to be packed in time... *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  3. Try Target, which is at Hibaldstow very close to Scunthorpe. It is in the 'Dropzones' section above. *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  4. I guess the pedal will be against the metal in our crappy hire car from Barcelona then... - Fastest car in the world, someone else's... *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  5. Flying over 21 Dec? Me too... should hit Empuria around 3 PM... might even get some lobs in... 12 more days... What time is it getting dark over there now? *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  6. Good canopy type choice - I used to have a Spectre and loved it. Advice? Take care - that is a fairly aggressive wingloading for your experience - but I'm sure you knew that... *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  7. "Now I've seen it all!" "Have you ever seen a man eat his own head?!... then you HAVEN'T seen it all" *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  8. Frank did you not realise I am a civvy now? Thought the long hair and sidies would have given it away. I unfortunately only get paid for a 40 hour week now, unlike you squaddies Actually I assumed you had just transferred to the cavalry or AGC... 40 hours a week on porn stars wages still means you get paid enough to sub a few jumps for someone who still devotes himself selflessly to protecting democracy etc... tour dodger! *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  9. Actually I DO bring Lucy tea from time to time (and lend her my Ipod)... our manifesters deserve it... And Netheravon is a special case since I get such good rates there, but just to clarify (unlike you!) I don't get paid to jump... just discounted tickets. If you are offering though...
  10. Sounds like you know the right people!! Have you used it yet? If so did it handle the same as the regular Icarus reserve? Glad to hear that it sounds like PD are going to have some competition - competition is healthy for the customer! *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  11. Really? I thought it was my jump ticket that allowed me to get on the plane? I thought that manifest was a paid position to facilitate the customer? I must say now that I realise that manifesters are doing their job out of the goodness of their hearts, and not for money, I will make an extra special effort to be polite and bring them regular cups of tea! *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  12. Since we are on a serious question asking thread, which will hopefully be widely read, I am also curious to know if other canopy manufacturers will be following suit with a new material type reserve and if not, why not? Just curious if Aerodyne, Icarus etc are planning on letting PD corner this area of the market and if so, why do they think a low bulk reserve is not worth building? *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  13. I would have a peer in the gear section, under main canopies, Icarus / Aerodyne. This may give you some ideas about the differences. Pilot is a great choice... but everyone has their own favourites. I would recommend against the Crossfire right now, but I'm sure you'll think the same once you have read about it.
  14. Craig is very thorough isn't he?! One thing I would fully recommend is silk glove liners - they are for winners. I am not such a fan of the surgical gloves - I know plenty of people like them but it just looks a bit dodgy... *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  15. Anyone know what SICS is exactly? From the website... Synchronized Inflow Control System SICS® is a research and development program addressing the control of the inflation process of a highly elliptical ram-air textile wing that will ensure a constant deceleration and always on heading deployment. By synchronizing the inflation sequence during deployment, SICS manages to produce an outstanding rate of on the mark deployments. This innovative system has been introduced in the market in high performance skydiving canopies and allowing for very soft and straight canopy deployments even in very high wing loading conditions. ************ I couldn't copy the picture across but the cell opening configuration looks pretty unusual. *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  16. Perhaps consider getting a second hand main to start with? It will still be trickier than F1-11 but not as bad as something brand new... It'll also be cheaper, which will help when you get bored of it and want to downsize. You might not get your perfect colours but I reckon that it is a small price to pay. *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  17. Hey Mike! First things first, you should be going through 'FS Coaching' towards your FS1 rather than the old WARP package - this is the updated training scheme which Aaron Faith has put a lot of work into and is both more flexible than WARP and will (arguably) result in a better, safer FS skydiver! As for help with side sliding, I'll leave that to Aaron too, you'll find some tips in the FS Student Manual, available online at http://www.bpa.org.uk/trainingmanuals.htm Hopefully that came up as a clicky... There is stacks of interesting info in there which may be of use. Enjoy! Frank. *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  18. Again, just an opinion, but I am not a fan of the idea of using a Rat Hat for camera work. One of my team mates has one that he has put a bracket on the side of, and the significant size difference between the tiny flat section and the camera/bracket just screams snag hazard to me. If you want to go with bonehead (not a bad choice!) then why not the Optik? You can buy it 'clean' and then bolt on a bracket or box when you have the experience to start flying with a camera.
  19. Without doubt, if you tried to speak to him and he wasn't having it, or even if you hadn't tried speaking to him because he won't listen... tell the CCI or whoever is running DZ Control. It's not about ratting out, its about safety. And just making sure that you are not on the same lift as someone unsafe doesn't help the other people on the DZ who might also get hurt. I mean this generically rather than for this specific case as I don't have enough detail here from both sides of the story to make my own judgement... *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  20. Get plenty of sleep before you go, and bring a spare liver. Don't plan on getting much work done for the first week back afterwards...
  21. You want to be careful you know, smoking can kill you! *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  22. I think the common problem is people deciding that the kit they have is the best, and every other manufacturer is of a lower standard. A lot of it has to do with sales price, with the natural instinct saying that the more something costs, the better it must be... I do think that sometimes people just pay for the name. Its like the 'Babycham' con (fizzy alcohol drink from the 80s!) - originally launched relatively cheap, it was not seen as cool or a good drink. It was pulled off the market, repackaged and sold at a much higher price... suddenly it was the classy drink to have in your hand at parties... People sometimes just want to part with the cash... Me? I have jumped Aerodyne canopies for 2 years now and I love them. I have tried a few other major manufacturers canopies and they were fine too, but certainly not better. *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  23. Better buy has got to be the Vector - as JP said for the canopy. Spectres are a great learning canopy. In fact a great all round canopy! As for the free flying, personally I wouldn't want to do that on either of those containers. But at your level FF may be some way off yet anyway so this might not be an issue.
  24. Perhaps this is just another cultural difference but in the UK AFAIK any jump over 2k is a standard Hop and Pop. The High speed pass is normally only used in demo scenarios with an exit altitude between 1500ft and 2k. *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  25. Of course she wasn't annoyed - she knew your experience levels and wanted to help out! As a coach this won't be the first time that she has had a jump like that. And doing that on 19 jumps? don't beat yourself up - I bet I wasn't even that good! Just make sure you take that advice and put it to good use... *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
