  1. Hey. I'm trying to connect my d-bag and pilot chute to a newly acquired canopy. I'm USED to the connection point looking like this (pictutre 1), where the D-link attaches to the free end of the piece of cloth. (see pic) However, on the Triathlon I got there is no free floating piece of cloth. Both sides of the cloth are sewn to the canopy, with the metal O ring (don't know what its called) in between them. Originally I put it together like this (picture 2), but the metal D-ring on the metal O-ring didn't seem like a good idea. So then I tried putting it together like this (picture 3), with the D-ring from the Dbag going through the eye of the piece of cloth that is attached to the canopy. Is this even close to right?
  2. Do you know if Skydive Alabama does anything cool around New Years? Its only a 115 mile drive from Nashville.
  3. Hey all. I'll be in Nashville, TN for the holidays, but I was thinkin about making a road trip somewhere even warmer to get a few jumps in around new years. I looked through parachutist, but it didn't have many events listed. I know the collegiate boogie at Platka is going on, but that's a 10 hour drive.. Anyone know if their DZ (probably in either AL, GA, or VA) is doing anything cool for New Years? I was thinkin about taking this opportunity to check out The Farm? Need ideas.
  4. Hey. I've recently been given the opportunity to buy a used Triathalon 190 for a really low price (~$300). A jumper I know is willing to cut me a deal on his canopy, because he down-sized, and I tragically lost all of my stuff on a cutaway back in August. The reason I'm asking on here is because I need to buy it soon (I don't want to make him hold on to it forever, when he could put it up for sale here). The weather here isn't going to be conducive to jumping for a while, and my DZ is closed. So if I buy it, it will probably be without getting to put a jump on it. I will be changing over from a 2002 Spectre 190 to a similarly dated Triathalon 190. Assume they both have around 500 jumps. What will be the major differences?
  5. Yeah, I'm in Nashville for the holiday, and they are fucking EVERYWHERE.
  6. Hmmmmm... I just got this in my inbox. This could turn annoying. Hello!!! My name is linda I am tall ,good looking, perfect body figure and sexy. 7. I don't feel weightless or have the ability to fly my body when I stick my head out of the car window. I also don't get to fly a parachute. I also don't get much of an adrenaline rush, or a feeling of accomplishment. I think a blind person cold enjoy a skydive just as much as someone else, albeit without the visual sensation. I think it would take way more balls to jump out of an airplane blind than with all 5 senses intact and functioning.
  8. "Happy Hour" is not legal in the state of Indiana. Apparently law makers believe that placing a time restriction for cheaper drinks causes people to consume their beverages dangerously fast. The "Happy Hour" deal must last all day in order to be legal. It becomes more of a "daily special." I don't know if that makes people drink any less, now there's more time to drink!
  9. Do you only see freefall? You don't feel it?
  10. Well relish that. I'm pretty sure all my shit got stolen after my cutaway. Main, reserve PC, and freebag all disappear... I guess that's what you get when you're a nobody and you chop at a boogie.
  11. Hey, I'm thinking about doing my first balloon jump this winter and I'm looking for some insight. How long does it take to hit terminal from a dead air exit? I'm just wondering how much of a delay I can take if the pilot is only willing to take us up to 3 grand, and if it will be worth the money. Also, I'm not going through a DZ or anything, because no DZ's here in Indiana offer balloon jumps (that I know of). So I'm just calling around to various balloon operators in the area. I got quoted $195 per person for weekdays and $215 for weekends. Are these prices similar to what you all have paid? I'm not sure it would be worth $215 to only go up to 3 grand.
  12. While you're at it, see if you can find my main that I lost this summer.
  13. If you've never seen these videos, get ready to laugh. http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/6eff3fba0d/drunk-history-vol-2-featuring-jack-black-from-drunk-history-jack-black-derekwaters-and-jeremykonner
  14. Anyone know what this video is? Its titled skydiver crashes into cow.. It looks pretty awful. Anyone know what the hell happened? Was this a fatality? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHeb377mHVg&feature=related
  15. I found this article today while searching for stuff for an assignment. The article compares emergency airway management with skydiving... I wonder if the author, Dr. Levitan is a jumper. Anyone know him? It seems kind of random/unnecessary to compare rapid sequence intubation with skydiving, unless you are a jumper...
  16. Hey, I recently was given a PD190 (F-111) to use for free since I lost my main. I was jumping a Spectre 190 loaded around 1.3. How well will this wingloading transfer over to the F111 PD190 (9cell). Is it mainly the flare that will suffer?
  17. Hey I'm looking for Tim Swiechowicz, if anyone could help me get in touch with him it would be awesome. I believe he lives in Texas (or did last November) He graciously sold me a canopy last November. I never wrote down the serial number, and now the canopy is missing. I'm hoping he still has a record of what the serial number is so I can file a report about it. Thanks, Ryan
  18. Well I'm heading back out to Richmond tomorrow to look again. So far I've got one person from my home DZ commin with me to help. If anyone's in the area and willing to help it would be MUCH appreciated. And if we find it, I'll take anyone helping out to dinner and beers. Ryan
  19. I had my first reserve ride this past weekend at a DZ I was visiting. I had it on my first jump on the first day of the boogie. It landed somewhere in a gigantic and incredibly dense corn field. Nobody followed it in, but a few people watched and pointed me in the general direction. After many hours spent in the corn, and multiple cessna trips over the field the boogie ended and I had to go home chuteless. Supposedly the corn will change color in a few weeks, and it may be easier to spot the canopy (the canopy is PD's "lime green" which blends in perfectly with corn). Does anyone have any experience with getting a canopy back after an extended stay out in the corn or some other crop? The folks that call that DZ home are going to keep an eye out, which I appreciate, but I'm not getting my hopes up. Any thoughts?
  20. That's absolutely true. There's no way, as a broke college student, that I would have made my 100th skydive today if the dope rope had not been an option.
  21. I'm in no way saying I suck that terribly. I was just wondering how other people at other DZs were at 80-100 jumps. I hope you enjoyed that PBR. Its the best beer on the planet.
