  1. Anyone else going? I have seen the aircraft listed on skydive chicago's site... 2 Twin otters, skyvan and DC3. Have any of you Chicago natives heard word on specialty jumps like balloons, biplanes, or choppers?

  3. If you collapse the slider, push it up above the links, and then put your hands in the toggles, you shouldn't have any problems. Once you unstow the toggles, your hands should stay in them until landing. Actually, even if you remove your hands, the slider shouldn't come down past the toggles once they are unstowed. Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see what the problem is. I agree, it shouldn't. But it DOES. The problem is that I will do some front riser or toggle inputs, and the slider comes uncollapsed again. It then falls down interfereing with having my hands up at full flight. In fact, on my last jump I turned on to final and the slider uncollapsed, but I was too low to mess around with it anymore. I ended up having the right half of the slider (both front and rear grommets) down by the side of my head flapping around, and the left half up where it was supposed to be, resting right at about the slink level. Annoying to say the least, potentially dangerous when you're coming in on final, as I was having to push the slider up with my hand in the toggle to have my right hand at full flight.
  4. I'll be there. I asked for the dates off back in October.
  5. I'm not sure of the manufacturer of the slider, I'm assuming it is made by Atair, as is the canopy. As far as the type of slider- its the kind with 2 tabs and drawstrings to collapse the slider, and stiffeners on the drawstrings that should keep it collapsed once pulled.
  6. Hey, I'm looking for some opinions or solutions to my current situation. I have recently, within the last 20 jumps started using soft links. I do not, at this time have any bumpers for them. The slider routinely falls past, or hangs up on my toggles upon opening. I then have 2 choices, I can collapse the slider and push it back up above the stowed toggles and hope that it stays put, or I can collapse the slider and pull it down behind my head. If I push the slider up, it will occasionally stay put. However, often times it will sink back down over my toggles, getting in my way if I am in full flight. It also tends to come uncollapsed with any aggressive canopy flight (front riser turns, or hard toggle inputs), and bounce me around. I'm tired of messing with it while I'm flying my canopy, its just not safe, especially when it sinks back down while I'm coming in on final. If I pull the slider behind my head (with no slider stow) my visisbiity is GREATLY reduced. I can not move my head freely to look up and to the sides, or to glance over my shoulder. I do not like this, it feels incredibly unsafe, and I no longer even attempt it. So, neither of my options seems to be working for me at all, and they seem like they could be contributing to the first part of a chain of events that ends with an accident. I am debating on 2 solutions. The first is to install slider bumpers so my slider stays up above my head at all times. The problem with that however, is that my slider will continue to come uncollapsed with any aggressive flight as it does now. The second option is to put on a slider stow. I was looking at the SkyTie from skysystems http://www.chutingstargear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=50_54&products_id=391 The slider stow would fix my current issues, but may add some issues of its own. I know there are potential problems with cutting away while a slider stow is being used. It seems like cutting away with a skyhook installed would further potentiate these issues. Has anyone had experience cutting away a main with a slider stow attached? Has anyone had that experience while using an RSL or skyhook? Are there any other options I should be considering?
  7. I know a small cessna DZ in indiana got ramp checked 2 or 3 weeks ago. I don't think there was anything to cite, its pretty tightly run ship over there.. I also don't know what prompted their visit.
  8. This is the most insane thread I have ever read, and usually I cruise through this forum on mushrooms. Multiple strange conversations. Everyone is angry.
  9. So is this just a fun tunnel like the one in pigeon forge TN, or is it useful for someone trying to improve their skills?
  10. How likely is it that an undone chest strap, or an incorrectly routed chest strap will result in the jumper being ejected from the rig? I have caught one, just before boarding the plane. An AFF student who was starting her solo's had her chest strap looped through the fastener only once, and then had the excess secured with the bungee loop, so at first glance it didn't look too bad. I am pretty confident that this would not have been caught in the plane. I told her about it and showed her how to fix it. I tried to make her understand that doing that is a pretty big deal, but I got the impression she just blew me off. I let her instructor and DZO know about it though. How likely is that scenario to result in a fatality?
  11. Is there any way to let your site support .m4v uploads? That seems to be the default file type from iMovie.
  12. Well that shouldn't be a problem. If I'm not wearing a jumpsuit I'm wearing my wife beater and my crack pants.
  13. Would you recommend a shop vac for getting the water out of the toilet?
  14. Hahaha, well, the toilet most definitely does NOT work at this point in time. It worked well for flushing liquids after the bottle was flushed. However the first time it tried to handle the 'real deal' after the bottle went down it clogged, and plunging seems to be ineffective. So the toilet definitely needs some sort of intervention, I'm just not yet convinced that a brand new toilet is the only answer.
  15. I'll preface this with saying that I have a lot of drunk friends... This weekend one of my particularly drunk friends knocked a plastic bottle of aftershave into the toilet while he was taking a piss. Instead of fishing the bottle out and then washing his hands he decided just to flush it. He claims his rationale was that he thought the bottle wouldn't go down, only the urine in the toilet would, thus he would be able to fish out the bottle without reaching into a toilet full of piss. However, the bottle did go down. Afterwards we tried a few practice flushes, and the toilet worked flawlessly. We all laughed and high-fived about how funny it was. Then someone took a shit, the toilet stopped working, and it is no longer quite as funny. I had a plumber from roto-rooter come out to look at it today, and he told me right off the bat that my toilet is busted and has to be replaced. He said this before even looking at anything, and then started telling me how he could cut me a deal on toilet installation. It seemed a little odd to come to such a diagnosis so quickly, and without even examining the toilet. I asked him if he would attempt to snake it since he was out here anyway and he begrudgingly tried.. for about 3 minutes. He quickly gave up and deemed it a useless effort. He then said he wouldn't charge for the service that he did today, if I let him personally do the toilet installation later this week. I know nothing about toilets plumbing or piping, so I just kind of accepted my fate of buying a new toilet. He says the bottle is stuck in the piping of the commode itself, not in the line past the toilet, so a new commode is the only answer. After he left I found myself wondering if such a small object could really ruin a pretty nice, perfectly functional toilet. I also started thinking about how eager he was to sell me a new toilet, and I began to wonder if this was kind of what its like to be car-illiterate, and deal with a shady mechanic. So, anyone with plumbing knowledge, does it sound likely that this 2.4 oz plastic bottle of aftershave has killed my toilet? Should I get someone else to take a look? A pic is attached of the aftershave bottle.. Its the blue bottle that says Gillette in this picture. http://media.photobucket.com/image/gillette%20aftershave%20gel/aggreko07/IMG_0360.jpg Living in a one bedroom, zero bathroom condo totally sucks.
  16. How is your blood pressure? Have you ever taken it pre and immediately post jump? If you've already had one aneurysm that required coiling its probably not a good idea to have your blood pressure jacked way up while skydiving or you may be risking a subarachnoid hemorrhage. The danger is probably not from the area where the coiling was done, but rather the fact that the vessel has had an aneurysm once. It may be prone to having another aneurysm distal to the area where the coiling was done if your blood pressure gets out of control. If you had data regarding your blood pressure while jumping, your doctor may be able to give you a more definite answer.
  17. Put some white trim/pinstripes on it.... Just don't get it dirty.
  18. Awwww man. My camera helmet? The blue rawa? I'll bring you some green bottles for it. Odoul's comes in a green bottle, doesn't it?
  19. Did you receive any information as to what may have contributed to the 'spontaneity' of your pneumo? Pressure changes? Trauma? Anything?
  20. I'm planning on attending. Is there any word on gear reps who might be on site or lift tickets?
  21. Who said they didn't? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQUvJ-wKJok&feature=related I saw the behind the scenes where Lamb of God goes skydiving, its pretty funny.
  22. I'm about to purchase a wide angle lens for my CX100.. I have heard over and over that .5 is preferable for outside video, and .3 for inside. I was wondering if anyone has links to any video where I could compare between different lenses.. I have searched all over youtube, but most skydiving movies don't say in the info what camera or lens was used to make it. I'm specifically interested in seeing the difference in footage between the Raynox 5050 and the Opteka .3 So do any of you have videos posted online? Would you mid linking and posting which lens you used?
  23. Chutingstar has just about everything in stock you could think about wanting. A Rawa helmet with a box is a more affordable option than the Cookie helmet + a box. Maybe there is good reason for that, but I don't know yet. I'm waiting for the arrival of my Rawa and box next week. As for lenses, I think it depends on what you want to do with the camera.
  24. What are your concerns with a rear exit/tailgate type of aircraft?
