  1. Exiting a C130 is by far one of the coolest things I have ever done. Here is video from the jumps in October. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jemKm8wMDbo
  2. Bush Sr. was president for only 1 term (4 years), so that can't explain the flags. They must have done 2 flags for each 1 year in office. Everything is bigger in Texas.
  3. You're right man. I got a brand new replacement GoPro and case in the mail today. Their customer service rocks!!
  4. Well, we all have our own definition of paranoid, I guess. Unfamiliar venues or even familiar ones in sketchy areas . . . even I do that. I guess working on the south side of Chicago just leads to complacency. Wow. I'm with you Kallend. Condition yellow? Making note of EVERY patron, and tracking selected ones? Specifically seating yourself in a manner that provides 2 exits, and allows you to see the door? Good grief. Unprovoked killings like this are the exception, not the rule. And if 4 armed cops couldn't defend themselves from a surprise gunman, most likely you or I won't be able to either... But I'm banking on having a double malfunction before I'm randomly gunned down while sipping a latte at Starbucks anyway.
  5. Do you have any idea on a time frame? I emailed cookie about that a few weeks ago, and they replied back that they had nothing coming along in the short term.. They mentioned they had just received their first batch of GoPros, but did not indicate if/when they would be offering any boxes for them. I hope someone will build an affordable box for this camera soon though.
  6. Hey Trunk, Yeah, it was flung out of the case after the impact. Maybe I will try to secure the case with tape if I decide to buy another. Its strange, aesthetically, the camera looks almost as good as new.. But I guess something on the inside got scrambled. I wonder if it is worth taking it somewhere for repairs?
  7. It fell while in the case. The case broke apart on impact. The camera looks almost perfect, aside from a very tiny crack in the bottom left corner, and some very slight chipping of the outside plastic. The camera still had the red light on when I got downstairs to retrieve it. It wouldnt turn off, so I removed the battery. Now the camera won't turn on. Tried plugging it in to the TV, and my laptop. No dice. Unfortunately I think it is gone for good.
  8. Just in case anyone was wondering... These cameras will not survive a fall from your 7th floor balcony. That is all.
  9. Colored lines, or rather colored/marked tabs can make things easier when you first start... But I wouldn't do that to my own gear, as in time you won't need the indication, and it might lower the resale value. One thing that helped me tremendously when I was learning to pack was to separate the lines over both shoulders. Rather than having all the lines draped over one shoulder, separate them so that the lines from the Left front and rear risers go over your left shoulder, and the lines from the right front and rear risers go over your right shoulder. This makes flaking a little bit easier, as you're looking at less lines at once, and makes the identification process easier. Other than that, try leaving the slider in place and just moving it temporarily and working around it. Looking at which grommet the lines pass through on the slider narrows the identification down to 2 options. If the lines pass through the front grommet, its either A or B. The shorter is A, the longer is B. Likewise, if they pass through a rear grommet, its either C or D. The shorter is C, the longer is D. If you have the lines separated on different shoulders, then you already know which side (left or right) the lines belong on. This video is awesome for explaining how to pack if you are confused about other steps. But as always, talk to someone credible at your DZ for help. http://skydivekamloops.org/vids/pdpacking.html
  10. Hey. Can anybody post some pictures of how they mounted their GoPro Hero to their helmet? I have only seen a couple of them mounted in real life. I've seen some online, but not a lot. Did anyone use anything other than the mounts that Go Pro provides with the camera? Also, is type of helmet important? I'm going to order a new helmet soon, and I'm trying to consider whether or not I will be able to mount the camera on it before I buy.. I'm considering helmets like Rawa, the ozone, the aviator, and other similar openface helmets. Thanks a lot.
  11. Anyone have more pics of how their gopro's are mounted? I've been looking around recently, and I really don't like the way that the camera is mounted and exposed on most people's helemts.. I'm talking about those who have a protec like helmet, and the camera mounted on the anterior half of the top shell. It looks like it is one funneled exit away from being knocked off the helmet and lost. It also just looks bad. I know it would be tiny... But are there any companies making a box for it like traditional cameras? That way it would be flush with the helmet, and look better. And isn't skydiving really about looking good?
  12. Yeah dude-- I second that. Just put your goggles on either just before, or right when jumprun starts. Then, once you deploy and check out your canopy and other traffic, take your goggles down so they are hanging around your neck. Canopy flight is much more enjoyable without those things on your face anyway!
  13. Hey, I'm looking for some advice.. I am going to start jumping a camera soon.. I really have no aspiration to become a professional vidiot, or join the ranks of people like Norman Kent any time ever. Basically my goals for jumping a camera are to 1) have fun 2) document my jumps 3) edit together skydiving videos 4) give myself and friends something to watch Right now I'm kind of torn between spending a bunch of money on a legit camera helmet and CX100, or just going with the Hero HD. Can I accomplish those goals with the Hero as a primary camera? I hear and see a lot of people using it as a secondary toy... The picture quality online looks good from what I've seen online.. How does the footage look when played on a big screen? The price with the hero is definitely right, and the variety of angles is cool too. Does mounting this low profile camera reduce the snagging hazard?
  14. That canopy ought to be easy to pack, since its ZPX-- I'm interested to hear how it packs though from the OP!
  15. I play on Xbox live as Ricky Martin 0
  16. Hahaha, seriously?.. I think the "parenting an effeminant child" was just a funny concept, so they made a skit about it.. Don't read too far into it. Sheesh.
  17. Does anyone know where I could jump a biplane sometime soon? Preferably somewhere in the southeastern US. Are there any boogies coming up that will have the biplane there??
  18. Holy shit! Maybe move this thread to the Skydiving History and Trivia forum.. Maybe someone in there could shed some light on it. I'm interested to know as well.
  19. Damn I am excited! I just worked six 12 hour shifts in a row to have the next 5 days off and come boogie. Hope to meet some of you guys. I know a handful of people from the Collegiate boogie back in January. I'll be the dude flailing around in the sky with a camo rig.
  20. It was fucking incredible. $30 donation. Three C130 jumps from 14.5-15k. So much fun.
  21. Its really a bummer you have to be there the night before for a safety briefing... Otherwise I would be all over it. Wish they could do it the day of the jump.
  22. I'm debating buying a plane ticket instead of driving down there from Tennessee. Is there anyone who will be flying into Jacksonville, or driving through it on Thursday 10/29? I'd love to share a ride with someone and save a little money. I'll buy you a beer!
  23. SWEEEET! I am so excited. I have been to Skydive Palatka once, in January, for the Collegiate boogie. I can't wait to come back! I'm driving down from Nashville, TN. Anyone in that area, or the ATL area want to carpool and save some on gas? I'm totally stoked. Got a new canopy coming in the mail. Now all I need to do is pencil pack my reserve, and I'll be ready!! Anyone I met from the collegiate boogie gonna be attending??
  24. I think floating in space would be amazing depending on exactly what you were doing. It certainly solves some issues, but probably causes others depending on the page of the Karma Sutra you're on. I bet the money shot in a weightless environment would be pretty gross to watch, but awesome if you did it. Imagine a big white loogie floating across the room.
