Maybe I'm slow... but I've just swapped my canopy over to another rig, and I figure the way to put the d-bag onto the canopy is simply by pulling the bag/bridle/pilot chute through the metal ring at the top of the canopy... right? not sure that makes sense... but this bag also has an extra metal ring thing which my old bag didn't. What is that for??! I realise how dumb I sound haha, I've always been really slow when it came to rigging stuff.
  2. Hmm, interesting. I have an old Teardrop container manufactured 1990, which I have since grounded myself as I did not feel comfortable jumping it. Was told by several people that the risers had "stretched" and this is why there was no metal on metal contact, but after reading this maybe it was always like that? (Bought the rig second hand). Thanks for the info.
  3. You will love it. I have flown about 3/4 different canopies, two of them Safire2's (one my own, which I have put about 150 jumps on). They open very consistently, softly no matter how you pack them. Flare is great too. Never been dissapointed. Have two friends who also have a Safire2 and it is a good canopy, both for beginners and advanced, depending on the wing loading.

  5. Ok, so I used to have a Pentax *ist DS top mounted to my helmet, with a bite switch going into the remote port, which is really little. I now have a Canon 40D attached, but the remote port is much larger.. so I need some kind of cable in between that converts so I can connect the bigger port to the smaller plug?? If that makes sense? But I have no idea where I would buy one (Camera store, electronics store, skydiving store??) and what it would be called!! Any ideas??
  6. Why not try to find a balance between both?? A lot of skydivers also ride bikes. Maybe get a cheap bike so you can still afford to jump & ride at the same time.. or a cheap rig :)
  7. I must have been spoilt with some very nice 182s!! I have been in 5, they all fit 5 people, and all weren't that uncomfortable... personally I think an Islander is more uncomfortable (can't wait to get out of that thing!!) Mind you one has a supercharger, and another had modifications to make it go faster (can't remember what, but takes 20 mins to get to 14,000)

  11. What do you mean no video slot?? You could hang off the back of the strut, (hard for me to explain in words lol) or alternatively on the side of the plane with arms holding onto side of door & one foot on the wheel?? I jump this slot all the time when following tandems and it really is not that tough to hang on for ages if that is what required.
  12. The problem with where I live is there isn't that many dropzones to choose from :) But I do intend on flying around the country in the near future and seeing other DZs
  13. D'oh! I love jumping with newer jumpers, it feels good, they are always full of enthusiasm and really full of smiles. If you came to my DZ I'd be all over you, but we're probably in diff countries :) It's a real shame you're in that situation... I was in it too at that stage and I recommend either changing dropzones or sticking it out, hopefully some more newbies will come around and you can jump with them.
  14. I have a weird sort of issue... I jump at two dropzones, one only jumps every second weekend and the other every weekend, so I take turns with them both. The first dropzone, let's call it A, I learnt there, have done almost all of my jumps there. I call all of the staff and few fun jumpers my family and love them to death. But most of the time I'm the only fun jumper and have to either jump by myself or follow a tandem / AFF jump. I stay here because I know I'll be given a job someday teaching, and because i LOVE the people... plus the parties are awesome :D The second dropzone, let's call it B, is a lot further away (3hrs drive), has a smaller plane but AMAZING people and great jump opportunities. It's a fun jumper zone, with hardly any tandems or AFF and I love it to death. The problem I have is I feel like everytime I go to dropzone B I feel resented by dropzone A, I go back there and everyone is all "secretive" about the parties and whatnot from the previous weekend (when I wasn't there) and what other goings on may have happened, I just want to know what's with that?? Anyone got any ideas?? It's not like I plan on deserting them or anything... it just doesn't feel very friendly to me whereas I have always been the one that gets there early, helps to set up, pushes the planes out, talks friendly to all the new jumpers...etc... :(
  15. I don't go here very often because I live so far away, but when I do it is always worth the drive. The first time I went I felt like I fit in straight away, everyone was extremely friendly and the party life is great. There may not be a huge amount of jumpers as it's a small dropzone, but the people that jump there are awesome. Anyone will jump with you, regardless of your experience level. The landing area is great, and even if you land in the pit they come and pick you up in their little buggy car. Great for the lazy! The only thing that I would say is a real con is that they only jump every second weekend.
  16. Is there a way of converting the 2-pin vigil to a one pin? Or alternatively, can you just use a 2-pin vigil in a 1-pin container? I want to buy a new rig and was hoping to save the cost of having to get a new vigil.

  18. All you can really see at ours is farms... farms.. more farms.. some ocean, and then a couple of small towns in the distance. sweet for landing off.
  19. :3:0 the landing area was full of muddy puddles (lots of rain recently) and cow poo, so made for some really gross smelling shoes after those jumps!

I've let a couple of people pack for me - a guy that has the same canopy, a couple of people I told about the way it was opening and other characteristics (asked them to help me pack it so it would open slower), and instructors. That's about it though. They have to know my canopy's characteristics and I have to know them or no.

I held onto it for all my jumps, except jump 18, where I got back to pack the rig and it wasn't there... still have no idea where it is and if I dropped it in freefall or perhaps on the way into the hangar On my first chop I held onto all my stuff without even realising it, till I got to the ground and someone said "Yay, you held onto everything!" and I went, "What? Oh, right, so I did."
  22. Mine wasn't worth linking too hehe. It said 6% But I've been to Australia, New Zealand, California, most of the eastern states of the US, and a bunch of western Europe.
