  1. Join the club. I'm very new to the sport, newer yet to this forum. To the best of my knowledge, there are only 3 people I've met in real life that I associate with a DZ.com user-ids. In 5 months in the sport, I continue to be impressed by the caliber of people I encounter, and I feel a great sense of loss for people I've only encountered via the internet . Skydivers are truly a unique breed and I'm proud to be among you
  2. Vibes to you, my friend
  3. Congrats, my friend
  4. I went for Fucker. Such a fun verb!
  5. Dude!! Pass some of whatever it is you're smoking!!
  6. Pretty much all the SSC instructors, who introduced me to the sport. Cris: Jumped with me for all 9 of my AFF-jumps. Took me out to the windtunnel when I hit a wall in my training and still teaches me some really cool stuff. Jeremy (now @ Aerohio): Taught my FJC and made some AFF jumps with me. Sorry to hear about this weekend's happenings at your DZ brother . Dean: Gave me my first taste of freefall as my tandem-master. Also jumped with me during AFF. Yoshi (now @ San Marcos): Jumped with me twice during AFF. His laid-back manner and love for the sport really put me at ease, esp for my levels 1 and 2 when I was really nervous. There have been numerous others who have given me very helpful advice. In my 5 months of skydiving, I've come across some very knowledgible people who give very generously of their knowledge.
  7. Enjoy, my friend. Be warned that adrenaline addiction only gets more intense
  8. Hmmm, I guess I'll be doing a video-waiver before too long . Seems like overkill to me, but with weekends like this one; DZ's gotta do what they gotta do to cover their asses. Lots of activity on the incidents board .
  9. WTF??? Where do they make you do this?? I had to do it at Perris in CA...i believe it is a CA thing... Wow!! I think I'll be jumping in Elsinore next month when I'm out in Cali. Then again, maybe they do it there too .
  10. WTF??? Where do they make you do this??
  11. I quite enjoyed the movie, tho I have little background on the characters.
  12. Agreed with you there!! Actually this product makes quite a valuable contribution to society in that it keeps certain individuals from reproducing. A little chlorination of the gene pool if you will .
  13. Friday: Saw X-Men III. Received and watched my PD packing DVD Saturday: Ran early and spent the rest of the day in a book, hanging out with my cat Sunday: Clean my apartment, do laundry. Played with my rig a little this morning but not yet brave enough to unpack my canopy in the living room Monday: Hopefully hit the DZ early
  14. Sweet!! I imagine one would only want to do hop&pops. By the nature of being a reserve, I imagine terminal openings to be pretty harsh . Thanks!!
  15. PD has a free packing demo DVD. I called them and had mine in about 3 days.
  16. I've never made a downwind landing, but I have made a couple crosswinders. Post-AFF, I'd pull high (5k) and watch others, esp the tandems land. On one load, there were no tandems, and everyone ahead of me pulled at like 3k. Not remembering how to read the sock and seeing a bunch of deflated canopies on the ground, I lined up with the runway and landed crosswind.
  17. yes... cause I still don't have a D-lic... and on the off chance that Someday I might chose to get some kind of instructional or Pro rating... not only that... its nice to get signatures from people I jump with. Makes sense. I was of the belief that once someone gets their license, they can sign their own jumps, but I guess that only applies if you're not going for higher licenses or for ratings
  18. I hear deploying a recliner does wonders for your fall-rate.
  19. Sure have. In fact I did that quite a bit in college. Took me a while to figure out that you can't spend the same money twice . Nowadays, the only check I write is for my rent. When possible, I pay with a credit card. Usu I pay-off the CC, but CC-interest is a lot cheaper than NSF-fees.
  20. Is there such a thing as demoing a reserve (having 2 reserves in a rig, one packed as the main)? Seems like a way to become familiar with the flight characteristics of one's reserve before needing it.
