  2. blues babe. thanks for the memories @ zhills. I will never look at stranged old motorists the same way again.... (thru a camera lens!), chickens do run around w/out heads and polaroid cameras are leathal weapons, as are lots of battery, blank tapes and video cameras! ill miss you sweetie. kel i will post pics of chris in the wingsuit and around the bar later.. http://kel197.tripod.com/skydivefriendsTRIPOD/
  3. I don't think that it is a good idea. I like to disconnect my main risers from my container system on a semi regular basis, leave my canopy in my locker for a couple of days then re-connect the risers to the container. This makes me stay current on that aspect of my gear inspection & mainteness and keeps me from being gear lazy. Also, when i teach a packing lesson I show the person how to connect the risers to the container. Then i show them how to do a 4 line check. I find that the by teaching them this they have a better understanding of how their gear works. It gives them a better view of the whole picture. Also, it gives them something proactive that they can do regarding their gear besides pin checks and handle touches.. basically, it gives them a little confidence boast and more knowledge of their life saving system. its my gear. I understand people can make mistakes, myself and riggers included, but i just feel better knowing that i am the one that reconnected those risers to the container... i dont fret a reserve ride for un-neccessary reasons as much... yeah, i can still screw up, but I KNOW i did my continluallity checks and everything appeared ok. http://kel197.tripod.com/skydivefriendsTRIPOD/
  4. nico.. is that you? its kelly. the EMT from Xkeys.. why dont you come back out to xkeys (During the week) and do some canopy control work? call up the dz.. ask for Heath or Krusey.. they are both awesome canopy pilots.. http://kel197.tripod.com/skydivefriendsTRIPOD/
  5. hmm... guys, this is one cause that hits home for me.. Chris is a friend that we ment while in zhills over new years eve.. He's a great guy. I'm talking a total sweet heart, fun to be with, devilish in his ways if you give him a camera or video camera... He's a really awesome person, even if he doesnt believe a chicken can live with its head cut off (world records 18 months!)..... Chris is awesome. totally awesome. I cant put better words to him. Liz and I are working on fundraising ideas... i might do some sort of discount packing thing... no idea. In any case, please guys.. we've helped eachother out.. now one of our family needs it. thanks kel http://kel197.tripod.com/skydivefriendsTRIPOD/
  6. thanks for posting safety oriented information like you have.. Its greatly appreciated. I was wondering, The properly assembled 3 ring configuration seems to be lacking on some of our systems. For those of us who arent jumping highly loaded elipticals is this really an immediate threat that needs to be fixed right away? I jump a spectre 135, loaded at 1:1 My gear is at the dropzone and i did do the checks that you listed above but I think i didnt do it right.. so im not sure if my risers fall into this catagory. I will properly check my gear tomorrow when i get to the dz and make my desicions from there. If they dont measure up to the standards you set then should i get new risers immediately? Im mostly refering to the spacing between the rings and the loop of tape. thanks kelly http://kel197.tripod.com/skydivefriendsTRIPOD/
  7. We put special emphasis on tree landings b/c we have so many around the dz. ________________________________________________ trees, not tree landings
  8. Brought the local Ambulance squad (of which I'm a member & an EMT for) and the local fire department out tonight to go over gear and equipment. Krusey ran the show & I helped him explain the jobs of the main and reserve canopies, RSL's, cypres', and leg straps that have the buckles vs the ones that dont. We also went over how to remove gear, where to cut the harness if it needs to be cut and how to cutaway a main canopy. Krusey explained everything that we could think of that is relative to any rescue efforts. When Krusey was finished I led several of the EMT's thru stabilization of a patient. Longboard, collars, CIDS and removal of the rig. I taught them how to take a rig off part by part until it finally slips off when youve got the patient on the long board. (For details email me @ [email protected]) We put special emphasis on tree landings b/c we have so many around the dz. later this month their all coming out again to go over the airplanes (it was raining tonight) the season is starting. Lets make sure that our local rescue squads are at least familiar with skydiving gear and operations. For any information, suggestions or ideas regarding how to get the EMS squads more involved at your dz drop me an email and ill pass on what i've learned. kel http://kel197.tripod.com/skydivefriendsTRIPOD/
  9. i'm not qualified to tell you what to do but i will tell you one thing not to do via some personal experience: friend and i are both low timers (less than 50 jumps at the time). planning to do a 2way RW. clouds roll in and we have to go down to 6'500 feet. we decide to do solos but dump a little higher and fly around each other under canopy. So we do our solo freefalls and are under canopy. I'm chasing him around good distance away and everything.. well, at about 2,000 feet (me) and approximately 1,200 -1,500 (him) he initiated a deep/fast toggle turn. With a wing loading less than 1:1 he managed to put himself into line twists. He was able to kick out of them but it was still pretty freaky because of his lack of experience, his low alititude, position (above obstacles) and quite a few other factors. Doing this same toggle manuver can eat up a good deal of altitude (if it results in line twists that you then must correct). remember its not just what you do at 1,000 feet that can kill you.. its also what you do a little higher and take longer to correct. http://kel197.tripod.com/skydivefriendsTRIPOD/
  10. check out http://www.rigginginnovations.com/voodoo/product_compr.htm its a comparision chart with all different options. http://kel197.tripod.com/skydivefriendsTRIPOD/
  11. yeah tom! 95 days! thats so friggin awesome!! hey... remember i quit smoking couple days before i ment you guys? well... still not smoking either!! its been 3 weeks 3 days . yeah us! glad to see youre still smoke free. but thats to be expected, i mean, you are a NON smoker.. why would you need a cigarette? you dont!! cause youre a non smoker!! kel http://kel197.tripod.com/skydivefriendsTRIPOD/
  12. I'm in the process of writing a 15 page research paper regarding interracial adoption. In the 75 abstract articles i have downloaded and the three books i've aquired gay couples adopting children has come up. I've also got articles regarding this issue in several text books for school. Anyone wanting to seriously discuss or learn more about this topic email me privately. Do a little reading guys... you'll learn a bit about the adoption system and how the kids generally turn out, no matter who raises them.. http://kel197.tripod.com/skydivefriendsTRIPOD/
  13. depends on weather here at xkeys.. i've talked to peter, they need help packing so im trying to get there.. doesnt look like it will happen but hell, we already ment. ill find you if i end up there. kel http://kel197.tripod.com/skydivefriendsTRIPOD/
  14. lisa said it!! "the Squares" one thing lisa forgot to mention.. when on the demo program The squares will arrange, either at your request or a suggestion from themselves, a demo canopy not currently in stock at the respective store. The girls at S3 got 2 of us a triathalon for a few weeks and in the end about 9 different people ended up putting jumps on it.. works out pretty good for everyone involved. I did business with square3 for 4 months, and square2 for about 1 1/2 months.. and lisa at square one has helped me out more than a few times.. I've got to say that I'm extremely pleased with the service, the constant landing and canopy control questions, information and overall help. Cant recommend the squares enough. http://kel197.tripod.com/skydivefriendsTRIPOD/
  15. hey, the best thanks you can give me is to A) not spit on me B) not throw up in my face (i can handle a little vomit on my shoes/pants) and C) dont touch me if your hands are bleeding. oh yeah! listen to me damnit! I'm above your mother (at the moment) I know whats best for you!!! haha. just kidding guys (no, im really serious but..) THANKS!! http://kel197.tripod.com/skydivefriendsTRIPOD/
  16. For those of you who do ALOT of hop and pops from high altitudes to further develop your canopy skills: what drills did you do? did you jump solo? two way? Three way? larger? I already practice breaked turns, slight turns during the flare, stalling my canopy, R & L turns, riser control/ turns . can you guys think of more drills to do? I'll probably get 2 days a week to jump more than just on the first or last loads... so for those 2 days a week i want to do high H&P's.. i have 68 jumps, not very current at the moment, have only put/ made 8 jumps on a spectre 135 since jan 1, 02. I'll be getting to jump more within the next month or so. my wing loading is exactly 1:1. My landings vary.. ill have 15 stand up awesome landings, 3 bad ones, then a shot of good ones again... etc etc. its more mental (for me) than anything else. I dont want to be an awesome freeflyer, i dont want to turn 20 points on a 4 way, i dont want a camera on my head, a board on my feet or anything like that. I just want to be a good canopy pilot, the other stuff will come in time. (please dont take that like i dont care to work on my FF skills, I'm content with where their at.... ) so how did you guys do it? what worked best? what was a waste of a jump tix? (if anything?) thanks. kel http://kel197.tripod.com/skydivefriendsTRIPOD/
  17. if you little green children do not stop fighting I'M going to lock this thread!!!
  18. Tom, this is some funny shit. I'm like 99.9% positive youre the same tom i ment this weekend.. I was at CSS with Brian Epstein. Youre his friend from Pepperel right? kel http://kel197.tripod.com/skydivefriendsTRIPOD/
  19. funny you mentioned this. I just looked at my work records.. 1,200 miles!! jeeze, we go over my house at 3grand when were climbing towards the south/east!!! i live that friggin close! transportation to international airports last season broke all kinds of personal records (taking skydiving friends to airports): pre-second drives to 3 different interl. airports, pre-second drive to Long Island NY, logged over 800 miles just getting friends to said airports.. definitally drove over 3,500 miles for skydive related stuff. and 1,200 of them in 3 days http://kel197.tripod.com/skydivefriendsTRIPOD/

    I quit!

lisa, how ironic. Today i made the same decision. To motivate myself I made up the same type of poster/motivation thing that I used to save the money for AFF.. Instead of it being skydive related its a map i drew of australia, with a huge airplane going across the bottom. The airplane is the money counter.. how much I've saved, how much more i need. Its the first thing i see when i walk in my bedroom, right next to my bed so its the first thing i see when i wake up in the morning. I decided to put $4.00 a day towards the trip to OZ (plus whatever extra i add in). but definitally the $4.00 a day i spend on a pack of smokes.. keeping track of how much I save towards my trip by not smoking. I'm wishing us both the best of luck! i checked out Nicoderm CQ today, geezus, 30 week for 10 weeks.. thats 300.00~! im going to try w/out the patch. my mom has some anti-smoking pills she got from the DR.. i might try them if the cravings get too bad, but im hoping the motivation to get to go to OZ is enough to overpower those cravings. WE ROCK!! WE CAN DO THIS LIS! I KNOW WE CAN!! http://kel197.tripod.com/skydivefriendsTRIPOD/

  24. Thanksgiving at eloy last year.. I was only there about a week before thanksgiving, but i spent that night with new friends, around a bonfire eating deep fried turkey, laughing and telling stories like they were all old friends..
