    Would...

noticed the new user icon... Are you still jumping the V2 or jumping it again? I thought you were going to sell it after some dissapointment with its flocking abilities? inquiring minds want to know cya sam
  2. Hi. I would like to know who out there has a lot of jumps on Blackjacks. (more than 100 at least) Please state what size, if it has/had the CUS option and what upper control line configuration. Also, please mention what other canopies you have jumped and how many jumps on them so I know who has a good frame of reference for comparison. If you do not want to post this info, please PM me. and to the smart-arse who now feels the need to post and tell me to contact the manufacturer: please don't bother I have done that already! thanks Sam

    ITW in April

planning a trip to the ITW in April or thinking about it? please PM me if you are, I might be there and it will be nice to know who will be around thanks sam
  4. by putting in some real effort agreed agreed I disagree. not essential for learning how to be a competent basejumper at all, in fact probably detrimental to the process on average given the attitudes of most noobs now IMHO, you are in this case find some competent and experienced basejumpers to learn from if you feel you have found the right people but they want nothing to do with you, find out why, remedy that situation and go from there.
  5. huh-huh, beavis, you said 'deceleration', huh-huh I prefer wingsuits that offer acceleration...
  6. body armour is cool as long as it is worn under your clothing, not over it that goes for full suits, elbow pads, knee pads, whatever your bridle and lines don't care how much your exposed pads will protect you during an object strike or rough landing, they only see the snagpoints this might sound stupid, but I have seen a LOT of video, photos and real jumps where body armour is worn in such a way as to pose a very real snag hazard I did a few jumps initially with only a short sleeve T over my Dainese Shuttle Suit, but even when it is 30+ degrees C and I am hiking 1 hour to get to an exit, I haul a longsleeve t and long pants in addition to my body armour if I am jumping with body armour.
  7. I saw a jumper impact at 6.0 seconds at the Perrine and live. No body armour. Life flight though.

    FL locals.

Are you even kidding? 50-60 jumps and 7 objects to be skilled enough to jump the most beginner objects in Florida? I only have one jump in Florida but I have seen plenty of objects there that are perfectly suitable for beginners given the correct weather conditions (i.e. winds) and gear set-up. Just wondering why you set such high pre-requisites?

    Odyssey

Hi Paratech used to have a website, but they took it down years ago. Nick's phone number is the last one I have for Colin also. I have a different email address for him, which I will PM you. Paratech is still Colin's as far as I know. The jumper who got injured in 2004 was the development jumper and biggest dealer for Paratech. He also has the most experience of any jumper that I know of with Paratech products. You can find him here. You will probably find that no literature exists for Paratech products. I have seen velcro Odyssey containers, but that is the extent of my experience with them. I have two Odyssey FX containers (2-pins) and that is the rig that the vast majority of jumpers in my area (Ontario, Canada) uses. I have had them for 2 years now and put a little over 400 jumps on them. They are the pin rig that I like best by far. Good luck getting a response from Colin though, I have been trying to get him to call me back for well over a year now and he has no interest in doing that. As far as I know he has stopped making gear except for a select few jumpers whom he has known for many years. Sadly I am not one of those, as I really like his stuff. Hopefully he will get back to you though. cya Sam
  10. actually Mike, the chart you want is this one: Legacy / pre K-series sizing chart The really interesting question is how much over the manufacturer's recommended maximum exit weight you are for that Tempo 120? I bet it's a lot.
  11. You are just too rad. He who goes hard, doesn't usually go too long. nice one Paul now coco can't believe it's just me giving him a hard time anymore... here's some numbers for you coco: 18 35 39 42 47 49 51 56 59 62 64 68 69 70 75 77 78 80 82 83 85 86 87 89 91 93 102 103 105 108 what do they have in common? some people may want to argue any one or several of them, but the way I see it, if they pulled higher (or at all) they all would've had a better chance of still being alive today Coco: I am curious as to why you would want to be pulling significantly lower than the other jumpers? Sounds like you meant that you did this regularly, not just by freak accident. Are the other jumpers scared weiners who don't know the joy of the few seconds of freefall they are missing out on? Maybe they are just not as skilled and experienced as you and therefore need to pull higher for an equal margin of safety? cya
  12. check out the following links still think so?
  13. from the accents I am certain this operation is in Africa, most likely Vic Falls from a quick google search and in Africa things are different.... none of the professional Bungee or Rope Swing operations here in South Africa require their costumers to use helmets most countries in Africa have a legal systems very different to the responsibility-averse lawsuit-happy lawyer-serving system in North America nobody here is going to try and protect you from yourself and that is an awesome thing
  14. Tube handle, attached at both sides (i.e. tape running through it). This is HIGHLY important, as any handle with a single attachment point, even a light tube, presents a possibility for the bridle to snag/knot/hitch around the single attachment point. I have personally seen this happen to my buddy Trent (on a 2-way wingsuit jump) and watched him tow the partially inflated PC for 6 seconds before it inflated more and completed the deployment sequence. Lucky for him he pulled really high or he would've had a reserve ride. I have been jumping custom sized AV-series pilot chutes from Asylum designs since I started jumping a wingsuit. That's about 800 skydives and 450 of those in wingsuits, mostly a S3 and V2 (big wings). No hesitations with those PCs. It's worth mentioning that I went with a 9-foot bridle (pin to PC), as this is a general wingsuit recommendation. Initially I had a 32" and that was fine for the 155 sq ft canopy I had, but when I downsized to a 120 it was too big. So I paid the extra $10 and got Marty to make me a 28" AV-series PC. Of course, you need to modify these BASEjumping PCs by fitting a kill-line if you are jumping a canopy smaller than about 210 sq ft. The easiest way to do this is to make a custom bridle that has a kill line, but with a loop for PC attachment, like the BASE bridles have. The AV-series PC has a very convenient place to attach the kill-line at the apex on the inside of the PC. They also come standard with an awesome yellow tube handle. It might sound like a lot of effort to use an expensive PC, but since I knew I would one day be BASEjumping my wingsuit and I would be using and AV-series PC with the external handle, I considered it worthwhile to get the same kind of PC and handle for my wingsuit skydives, so I would be very familiar with the feel of that handle, even through an arm-wing. Another noteworthy bit of info is that you can poke a finger into the tube on these PCs if you are not careful and precise at pull time. A fringe benefit of these PCs for wingsuit skydiving is that the other skydivers will look at you funny when they notice the large-hole mesh and the Apex vent on your PC.... PS - since I actually know how to sew a little now I made a kill-line bridle for AV-series PCs with a shrivel sleeve to use with the BASE pouch on my V2. If you want to go that way and you can't make it yourself or find someone to do it for you, contact me and I'll make you one, with or without a shrivel sleeve.

    Troll MDV

no you can't based on what you wrote, what you can say is: 'I got a Troll DW MDV and I can say for sure that it is a better canopy than the Fox or the Flik.' It would still only be your opinion, though. Unless you have hard scientific data to back it up. To even be able to voice a reasonable opinion that it is the best canopy ever, you would have had to try every other canopy ever first. that's awesome. for you. seems a bit closed-minded to me don't get me wrong, I have nothing against the Troll DW MDV, by all accounts it's a great canopy, but then, so are the Flik, the Rockdragon, The Mojo, The Ace and the Blackjack. Based on 'some jumps on a Fox and on a Flik 'and a DW MDV, you can't really make the best canopy ever judgement. I bet there aren't even 10 BASEjumpers in the whole world right now who have enough jumps on every BASE canopy in production to be able to accurately say which is best. And then it would really be more like, which canopy is best for what kind of jump...
  16. What does that have to do with anything?? He was an experienced jumper, one can only assume that his gear choice was suitable for the jumps he did. What could you possibly hope to learn from knowing his gear and configuration anyway? It seems from the list, fairly clear, that BASEjumping is dangerous and no amount of experience or specific set of gear will keep you magically safe from harm. I never met Sean, but he was one of the few posters on here that I found their posts worthwhile. I've seen some of his videos. I have heard of his reputation. I would like to offer my condolonces to all his friends and family who might see this post. My thoughts are with the UK BASErs now, this was a huge loss for them. Let's leave the stupid questions for later, eh?
  17. I was pretty sure you knew of that flight, it was more for the benefit of those young punks out there who did not know. to be clear, I think we probably believe the same thing about this topic I have no want to believe that being tall and light predisposes one to being a better wingsuit pilot. If I am indeed in that category (not too chunky?? -thanks for that one buddy) then wouldn't it be cooler if I wasn't genetically advantaged in wingsuit flight, yet still manage to fly reasonably OK? As for the shorter people's reasons for success, I don't know, maybe it has to do with a better length to width ratio, or better weight distribution, or bigger surface to volume ratio? I think we need to run some lab tests on them...
  18. you may find this interesting not unaided, but human powered flight, none the less as for the height and mass debate in wingsuit skydiving, maybe the tall and light people who feel they have the advantage should take the 'T-challenge'

    Lesson Learned

Are you basing your opinions mostly on rear riser landings while you still have the toggles (slider down/off) or they are captive (not using the LRM or jumping slider up), or are you basing it on rear riser landings with both toggles thrown (or brakelines released with line-release toggles)?
  20. I'm curious dude, why do you consider 4 upper control lines tried and true and therefore, I assume, superior to 5 upper control lines? I only have 17 jumps on a 4 upper control line canopy and did not much care for the turn response, flare, stall and stall recovery behaviour as compared to my 5 upper control line canopies. openings seemed of similar quality
  21. You are kidding right? It seems to be a pretty obvious spoof. It's not even very entertaining. If you are looking for entertainment on the internet, may I suggest taking a look here: Bill Clinton's love-lemming for 14 years poke around the rest of the site also, very entertaining... oh yeah, this is now totally base related because the love-lemming clip shows a whole new world of currently unexplored base aerials... ...bust out one of those and you'll be the crowd-pleaser on that load for sure!!

    980 must to play golf

I think maybe now Borat and I will both take up golf. See his textbook freefall in the attached picture... NOT! Also attached is my point of view just after opening. I guess it would look a lot scarier without the 0.46 wide-angle lens. overhanging cliffs are always nice... durkadurkaflatandstablecauses180sjihadbakala

    something new?

that is interesting sounds like a short-leashed dirty-high bag, but without the stashbag a dirty-high bag is a variation of the ho-bag The Ho-bag -you pack the canopy for a smart TARD -gear up as as for a smart TARD -tie the stashbag to the object SECURELY -do a front flip exit while holding the stashbag containing the canopy in front of you -let the stashbag get pulled out of your hands when the ties to the object tension -unstow your brakes and fly, bat-ass, fly! The Dirty-High bag -a Ho-bag, but with the canopy tied to the stashbag with a single piece of breakcord (not a loop) at the bridle attachment point There's a clip on skydivingmovies.com called something like SOBASE teaser that has a ho-bag or dirty-high bag on it. It also has a low-bag, which is a slider-up ho-bag. I would love to see some pics and/or video of your jump if possible. I am particularly curious about how you managed your lines during this whole deal. How far to the side did you attach the rubber bands? Even though the dirty-high bag opened in very little altitude (therefore the name), I'm not sure I would try it as low as 108ft, but there are definite similarities between it and your new jump. What are you calling the new jump? cya sam PS - in case you are a sane basejumper wondering why anyone would even bother doing a ho-bag in the first place, the answer is that I was too lazy to pack and it seemed too windy to be having my canopy flap around unpacked...

    Got'em!

you mean you haven't completed McFlonkeyBASE yet? time to try harder...
  25. for Calvin's benefit, I assume the above means that 50% of the people admitted to an emergency room after having fallen 90ft into water die. the emergency room statistics are just that they do not take into account the people who do not get injured, or get injured but do not make it to the emergency room, or die but do not make it to the emergency room please correct me if I've gotten this wrong
