  1. I have about 500 jumps on an original Xfire loaded at 1.85/1. It's an awsume canopy not prone to line twist with a sweet opening. The only skysurfers at my DZ both jump them. The Safire is a canopy that to get a good flare requires a fast (hook like) landing. My 99' will be available in a couple of weeks if you're interested. I have a XAOS 84 now going back for a reline. Blue ones, Conway C 1062
  2. Hi Gary, Just a note. I'm jumping an 84'Xaos @2.2+/1 out of trim. This past weekend I had 2 openings like that an found that I had unintensionally released the left brake line on my riser trying to 'fly' the opening! Another thin my packer showed me was pulling the center cell out and pushing the slider back more to the tail so that the nose inflates before the end cells. I was able to kick out of both! Good luck, C 1062
  3. Just in time for TURKEY DAY! ROFLMAO! C 1062
  4. I take it that the hubbie is all well now? Blue ones, C 1062
  5. Hey Sky, I did 1 Tandem and 4 AFF jumps 5 years ago. It took 4 months to do because of a lack of JM's, bad weather and high winds. I would stay at the DZ all day and tremble with the thoughts of what if? I quit the sport for 1 1/2 years out of frustration but still considered myself a skydiver. When I started back at a new DZ, as I went thru the retrain I was nervous all over again. Halfway thru it we went into the King Air and just smelling the inside again made me queezy! The winds calmed down late in the day and we were told we could make a jump. I passed! I told the JM that I just didn't feel good about it and he agreed that I should wait. I went home and slept on it planing on going back the next day. The next day when I got there and manifested, the JM told me we were on a 20 min call, I didn't have idle time to get scared! I had to go over the dive flow again and again. I had failed 2 earlier jumps for not staying altitude aware and going low. I just told myself in the plane, "the fear stays in the plane". The jump was the best yet! On the 3rd/4th jump back in, I was to do back or front flips, I don't recall, I was freaking out in the plane because I couldn't picture it in my head. The JM asked me why I was so nervous and when I explained to him the reasoning,He smiled and said "Conway, It's only air!If you screw it up, just get stable and try again! You've got 60 seconds to get it right!" Those were very calming words to me then. I didn't have my first chop until jump#489. I always had the fear of not knowing how I would react in an emergency situation! Finding out how calm and collected I was during that moment of excitement also helped out the nerves. Now over 1000 jumps and I'm still scared enough to check my chest strap at least 5 times every load and always get a pin check before leaving the plane. No room for complacentcy. I'm damn glad I made the step to come back to the sport I dearly love now! Good luck and remember, it's never too late to come back! The skies will always beckon your presence! Blue ones, C 1062

  9. I only posted a few words to make sure it would post here. It seems to have something to do with copy and paste. C
  10. I have no problem posting to a string in Talk Back but if I try to make a new post it tells me I have previously posted it, then sends me to one of my other new posts. This is when I copy and paste a new post from my e-mail. I even spell check and view first with no problem. HH thinks it has something to do with cookies. Does anyone have a solution or suggestion. This computer has just started doing this. Thanks, Conway
  11. Help! I can't post new. I can reply with no problem, but when I copy and paste a new post, it tells me it's already posted and sends me to one of my previous posts and not necessarily to the same previous post! HH thinks it has to do with my cookies. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks, Conway

  15. My first rig, I test jumped on jump #12 and bought it used from the DZ. After about 80 jumps, I wanted NEW gear and after shopping around some I met Kate @ SQ1(not knowing she was a sky goddess) and was very pleased dealing with her. She really stayed on top of the sale. I went back to her for some used canopies while downsizing and ended up buying another from SQ2 with equal success. With more experience knowing what I want,I have gone with price and service. If SQ1 were a little more competitive on new gear, I would still be a loyal customer but I have bought mostly used gear since.
  16. Hey Shu, I have to agree with most here. In '98 I did a fun jump tandem. No pressure, arch and have fun, smile for the video. I didn't even get to touch the toggles. I signed up for AFF that day. After taking the all day course I was not able to jump because there was an accedent there. Next day, jump #1 Total sensory overload, got altitude unaware JM pulled for me(I was having too much fun)FAIL! Jump #2 (2 weeks later because of winds)same sensors but stayed altitude aware,PASS! 3 weeks later (winds again)jump #3 altitude unaware again JM pulled again,FAIL! Failed 1 more time and quit for 1 1/2 yrs. When I started back it went much better. After over 1000 jumps later, I watch the students go thru the STP program (2-3 tandems)at my DZ start out much more aware of what's going on than I was, I HIGHLYrecommend "Tandem Progression". Had I started that way, I would probably have over 2000 by now! Best of luck! Blue skies, C 1045

  19. I like the media's take on this Pilot Sucked Out Of Plane Search Resumes Monday Posted: 9:12 a.m. CST November 18, 2002 PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas -- Authorities resumed their search Monday for the co-pilot of a single-engine airplane who fell 9,000 feet to his death. Authorities say the pilot was making a steep turn in the Cessna 152 when the cockpit door of a single-engine aircraft opened yesterday and the co-pilot was sucked from the cockpit. The other pilot radioed the Federal Aviation Administration and safely landed the plane back at David Wayne Hooks Airport in Spring. That's the same airport from which the plane had taken off -- about 20 miles northwest of Houston. The instructor pilot told investigators that both men were strapped in when the small trainer aircraft took off from the airport. "He just doesn't know at what point that changed," Waller County Sheriff's Lt. John Kremmer said. The pilot told investigators nothing seemed unusual about the man. "We're looking at the safety of the flight," Herwig said. "We'll look at everything that has to do with flight instruction, the pilot and the aircraft." Kremmer said a search for the pilot ended at sunset. Crews had narrowed the search area to a 10- mile radius that includes pasture, woods and several large lakes, he said. Meanwhile, the Texas Rangers, the National Transportation Safety Board and the FAA were helping with the investigation, Kremmer said. Kremmer said there was no indication the man had a parachute.
