  1. I just checked. I did 100 skydives in the last 6 months and 70 Base jumps. Tommorow I head to the dropzone for a few jumps. Tuesday I fly to Utah / Moab for a few day. I like them (BASE skydiving) both, but in terms of friends in the sports, I would choose any one of my BASE friends over the skydiving crew. I don't think I have ever bonded with people I skydive with like those I have met BASE jumping thus far. _justin
  2. In the incident forum Tom posts that he saw the still photos taken by a tourist on the overlook and can see a bit of orange on the pc with it restricted. Joe was packing his pc with an orange pull-up cord. I'd say that is reasonably conclusive. eidt cause I clicked too fast

    "Bad Ideas" list

Here's what I learned the hard way last friday. Something I will take with me forever. When you see someone doing something contrary to safety in BASE, i.e. packing a pilot chute with a pull-up cord. Say Something, do something. Don't just think it. While we might be ultimately responsible for our own safety in BASE, you never know when a little insight may save someone's life. And trust me, you will sleep better at night. -Justin
  4. Yes, it was an impressive stand up landing on that slope. That was pretty cool. And beating the people with no shoes back was funny as well. But, I just think you didn't want to have to buy another CO2 cartridge for your life preserver! If my Hanwags had flown off though Taylor, you would have seen me swimming for them..... looking forward to some more fun in the future guys justin
  5. Tom, I get into SLC at 240 and then am driving up... so conservative estimate is 630.... No traffic 510pm. ibridge first, unless it's too dark / windy / or cold when I get there to jump, straight to outback. -justin
  6. Shoot. Sorry Man I forgot to call you. I am in Midway Airport on the way to TF tonight. Will be there through 6pm Friday if you get in early. Then I got to fly back out. Wish I could stay longer.... -Justin
  7. Don't hang out with maggot. He'll make you carry his booze and his sharpie. Then later he steals your wallet and girlfriend. He is a NINJA I tell you....
  8. I believe that the distance between the pillars in 280... so the max you could be away would be about 140' five highway spans: with 4 pillars 180'-280'-280'-280'-180'... Pillars are 77' to around 226' Anyway, Tony it was fun drinking with you thursday night. Heal up fast. I got there after you had been carried out. Next year we'll have to get the photo-copier out for those complimentary drink cards- justin
  9. No problem... But from what I have seen on the news in the last 20 minutes, it looks like my speculation may have been on the money. If I got it pre the news, what do I win? Maybe I should try to become an aviation correspondent.... -justin
  10. Lidle is a Yankees pitcher. new pilot. Private license only per the FAA airman search database. current medical certificate. Aircraft is a newer designed plane. Sidestick control, not a typical yoke found on most light acft. A Test pilot was actually killed during the test phase during this aircraft's certification... The ballistic parachute "saves" the plane only in the aspect that it makes the landing within survivable tolerances. The airframe will be 'totaled'. So when you have a problem, you are faced with saying 'screw it, I am pulling the chute' or the ole, maybe I can save it.... Kind of like the whole cutting away, or trying to fix the problem. Also, to add speculation, pre the news. It is very intimidating to new pilots to fly in busy airspace and have to talk to ATC. lots of extra work. So he probably tried to go VFR, i.e. not talking to anyone down the river... There are VFR cooridoors that pilots can use to fly across busy airspaces without talking to ATC... Not saying he was on one... Maybe he was trying to fly visually, got into a cloud, lost control and came slamming in. He didn't have an instrument rating.......... But anyway, I could give you a bunch of different situations, and might guess right. But I HATE HATE HATE the way the media handles this crap and blows it out of proportion. It burns me up. Lastly, well, I didn't see the thread till then.... -j
  11. On post 28 of the thread. t Yes. but I actually have a pretty good aviation background (commercial pilot license, Air Traffic Controller, worked at US airways in safety).
  12. Really the 34th you say..... do you have a blacony? Anyway, I will weigh in here and put it out there first. This is not terrorism. Planes have crashed into buildings in NY before that were accidents. It happens, furthermore the buildings location alone isolates it as a non terrorist event. It is not a major (i.e. govt building), the plane was a small single engine, and furthermore, it would not be hard to fathom an aircraft flying VFR near the city, to go out of control (i.e. pilot heart attack, momentary lapse of concentration) to hit the building where it did. The media is blowing it out of proportion. I say 90% likely an accident, 10% chance deranged individual who had something against a neghbor or person in that appartment........ you heard it here first.
  13. Sure one hand for the sharpie right? Well, for me being at work doesn't really mean working... Besides, a BASE NINJA picture like that belongs to the BASE community. This was lesson one in the series. Lesson 2 is how to deal with snakes.... All of this is available at Magot's bridge day death camp.
  14. Magot is a ninja. NINJA 101 in the pic. how to hide when the man is near. damn I hate work.

    Canopy size

WHat? Free VTEC on a flik... I was debating picking up another set of kit... I didn't see the special on the website... Is it a for Tom only special?
  16. I have jumped at two of the ones proposed; Frontier and the ranch. I know not of Rochester, though my brother graduated from RIT. Frontier definetly has some cool people. I vote them if you have the time. -Justin
  17. of all the things to admit to.......
  18. You need a reality check. The mayor of chicago has been doing what he pleases for years. How the hell would a few BASE jumps affect Meigs reopening, I mean BASE affecting an airport???? I am interested what your background is in terms of aviation that allows you to connect the two?
  19. On smart tards I learned it is bad to hold your canopy with your thumb in your tailpocket.... Cause sometimes as you swing it up and step ioff, you rip the pocket open and find yousrself "dancing" in the lines.....

    my first building

I'd love to get the oppertunity to do that. that is cool, especially with the new ones going up that are in the 300' range.. i could get in on a tour real easy now a days and then.... get fired after I land... why do i have to work in a center and not a tower......
  22. I've jumped my PC1000 in my FF2 about a dozen times slider off BASE, usually around 2 second - 2.5 second delays. I haven't had any problems with it. I did however manage to knock the camera mount in the helmet loose though on opening. Have to make sure that thing is locked down tight.

    Body Armour

I have a high velocity gear jacket I wear for mountain biking. I like it. I have worn the spine protector for a few BASE jumps, but never worn the whole thing on a jump. One reason I don't is my rig wasn't measured for the gear and seems to fit tight when I put it all on.... For the compromise in price compared to Dainese, it seemed like a good deal. _Justin
