  1. 4.11's and 33's- can't beat it for a good all-around ratio. Reasonable mileage and power on the highway, and good torque for the trails and mud! Have fun!! Greg

    Unappreciated!

I would think the ACLU would be all over that for free. It would be an opportunity to draw a finer line (via a high court ruling) in the debate on 1st amendment interpretation. Greg
  3. Hi Steve, good point! It' get's pretty nasty here (at times) during winter, which may prevent me from getting over Donner summit to Davis when I have time to go. OTOH, Ontario is only an hour flight from Reno, and I can drive to Perris from there in about 45 minutes, so I don't think currency will be a factor. Definately something I hadn't thought of though. Thanks! Greg

    Reserves

Hey Phree, After talking about this with you over on gear and rigging awhile back I got to wondering about why PD does this. The only thing that made sense to me is that PD seems to have a higher max suspended weight on their reserves than other manufacturers I've checked. Do you think this is the reason? Greg
  5. Welcome to the left coast! So. Cal is an awesome base of operations for a single guy, lots to do and see. Have fun, enjoy yourself, and be safe! Greg PS- Don't know if you've been to Perris yet, but it ROCKS!!!
  6. Trust me when I say that it shows! You're a great asset to the skydiving community Lisa, we need more like you. You'll always be the only Skybytch though!
  7. Hi Lisa, The "C" is a definite before the new regs take effect, the "D" will be another matter altogether though, it may take until I'm old(er) and grey. The jump #'s should look much better next year though thanks to having gear. Not to hijack my own thread, but the more I learn about you, the more you amaze me. What ratings/certs do you hold? And how did you like JM'ing S/L students? Greg
  8. O.k., So I'm ready for my "B" license. My question is this: Is there any real reason to actually get a "B" license? Or should I just wait till I'm ready for my "C" in the spring, and go straight from "A" to "C"? Greg

    Guns in cockpits?

Hi Chris! Just a note here to make a technical correction. Winchester Silvertips are known for their penetration characteristics, which is why they are among the most effective loads for many "small" calibre firearms (most notably, the .25, .32, and .380 ACP). There are several proven frangible projectile loadings on the market at this time, 2 of them being the Magsafe, and the Glaser Safety Slug. Both utilize "light for calibre" projectiles, launched at extreme velocity. The velocity (along with the design of the projectile) is what allows the projectile to fragment, and effect it's "energy dump" without over-penetration. Being the technical minded person that you are, I thought you might appreciate this info.- That being said, I agree 100% with where you're going with your train of thought! Greg
  13. Thanks everybody, and I will influence the system in any way I can to see this jerk-off get the maximum penalty. And yes, I'll say it in print...the law isn't all he has to worry about now that I know who he is. Nick is doing much better Lisa, thanks. His arm is pretty ugly, but he has the feeling back in his hand (100%) and is getting back to normal life as far as physical function. I just hope I can find out who made the call, and give them an appropriate "thank you" on behalf of all parents everywhere. Greg

    Guns in cockpits?

Any shooting is a split second judgement. I carry a hangun (concealed) daily, and take it very seriously. Anyone with a CCW knows the legalities of the use of deadly force, it's part of the required training in every state that allows CCW. Mindset is a major part of survival in a lethal force encounter. I would rather have a pilot with a strong personal will to survive using deadly force (read: FIREARM!), than one who thinks that the best chance for him and his passengers is to submit to a hijacker! I shoot in IDPA and IPSC (USPSA) matches regularly with police officers. My CCW class was taught by the senior man on the SWAT team for the Washoe county Sheriffs dept.. Among the officers "in the know", it is preferred that citizens be trained and armed. Of the officers who are non-shooters, the qualification course they must pass is a joke, (btw, so are most required civilian CCW courses of fire!) and any IDPA marksman could easily best most of them in accuracy, and shoot/no-shoots. Give me a trained, armed PIC any day! Better than this, let me carry on commercial flights. I know leathal force doctrine as well as any police officer or attorney in my state (yes, including desparity of force!), and my accuracy is much better than the average law enforcement officer. If you question what I'm saying, then good for you. It's always good to ask questions. To reassure you, my sister is Defense counsel for the Riverside County Sheriffs Dept., My brother in law is a civilian criminal defense attorney, and a member of the Marine corps JAG's office. My personal attorney locally is a former assistant DA for Washoe county, NV., and my CCW instructors were Mike Robbins and Dave Keller of Sierra firearms academy, Reno S/O, And RPD (Dave was until last year, sr. man on the SWAT team, also). I outshoot most of our local sworn law enforcement officers. Not because I am inherently better, but because I enjoy shooting combat pistol, therefore shoot more often. So...which path would you prefer in a hijacking? If you are that vehemently anti-gun as to go against common sense and statistics, then so be it. Hope you enjoy the taste when you kiss your ass goodbye! Greg
  15. At 8 am on the button today, I received a call from a detective at Reno Police dept.. He informed me that they had a 19 year old male in custody for felony hit and run on my son. It seems that this jackass was bragging to some of his buddies about hitting a pedestrian on North Virginia st., and having to replace his side-view mirror. One of his "buddies" called the police and turned his stupid ass in! The detective indicated that my son may have been hit on purpose, and that the charges could be upgraded to assault with a deadly weapon, or even attempted murder, as more facts come to light. I have a meeting with RPD tomorrow, and I hope to find out who "dropped a dime" on this dickhead. Whoever it is has my undying gratitude. It's very likely that the informant has spared a family somewhere from receiving a call much like the one I received Friday, only with a much worse outcome. Often I think to myself that the world has gone to hell in a handbasket, and that there's nothing I can do to make a difference. Then something like this happens. Thank God the person who called the police wasn't thinking like me. I feel very humble tonight. Greg
  16. Thanks Lisa, your girls are very lucky to have you for a Mom. I hadn't thought about High School. My sons school is 1/2 mile from our house. I'll take a drive through the parking lot today! Have a wonderful day, and big hugs back to you! Greg
  17. Keep at it Clint, most people that I know had nerves to some degree when they were students (some still do!). After awhile everything starts to feel natural, and you'll get a kick out of the look on the newbies (and tandems) faces when you lean waaaay out the door to check your spot! Have fun and be safe, Greg
  18. Centimeters??? [Greg walks away shaking his head] Greg
