  1. There are no BMI's within Australia. So unless there is a visiting one I don't fancy your chances. Besides it probably would not be necessary. Did you try the MTR1 or 2? "Don't blame malice for what stupidity can explain." "In our sleep, pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart and in our despair, against our will comes wisdom" - Aeschylus
  3. Hey all, I have been having a bit of a problem with my pro-dytter lately, it does not seem to go off in freefall! The battery appears to be fine (no low battery warning) and it does give off the pre sets beeps, its just that as I am whipping through the presets - no noise. Perhaps I am going deaf or something? Side note, have a protrack as well - love that toy! Recorded a funny jump the other week (4way comp) exit 11500, 6 second delay, zero average speed! Guess head jamming tricked the computer (but it still beeped on the way down) Any ideas or experiences on the pro-dytter? "Don't blame malice for what stupidity can explain." 5. Nope its the language use that tripped me - nightingale explained via pm what it means. The statements just does not run that well, the way it phrased I read it differently. 6. Aren't US laws supposed to be a codification of the constitution - ie based in principle? Is that not correct? "Don't blame malice for what stupidity can explain." 7. Hey all, I don't really read this forum but one thing that I see keeps poping up is post like "they can't infringe on my 2nd amendment rights", blah blah, blah. I am not a US citizen and I live in a country where the use and ownership is much more strictly controlled. Anyway I looked a copy of the constitution on the internet and it reads: "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. " So does that mean that you have to be in a regulated militia to own a gun? Or does that mean you are free to have a gun provided that there are many laws covering the ownership of guns? I think its funny that when quoted the first bit is left out, so how is this a basis for people to get snappy about what sort of guns they can and can't have? Does not well regulated mean the laws that are passed about the control and use of guns? - So all this is based of an add in 213 years ago? Now thats funny! 8. Yeah playtime sounds like it could be fun! Where? Missed that other dude from Picton at the (Nag) Easter Boogie. Just another question guys & gals: How important are the birdman mods on containers? I take it that for the lower performance suits that are not necessary? 9. I am a bit hazy on our Op Regs (AUS) but as I recall it was 100 jumps to be able to wear ther camera and at 200 to film rel. Or it might have been 200 RW jumps to film tandems - I can't remember which. Min 200 is a good way to think - get advice and take it easy. "Don't blame malice for what stupidity can explain." 10. Hey all, I did my first couple of birdman jumps on the weekend - so much fun that I am thinking of getting into it, the problem is that there are so few people that do it over here in Australia. Anyway I did 3 jumps on a Classic2 and I am hooked. I am thinking about getting one but it might mean that I don't get a new canopy anytime soon Anyway what I was wondering was what sort of step up is the Skyflyer from the Classic2? What about the Skyflyer 3? I had no control problems during the flights; did a few barrell rolls, forward flips, etc with no problems but I am wondering what sort of step up these wings would be? (Other than Classic all I could use would be a Skyflyer) Would I be better served trying to get a GTI? Or would it be an idea to plead and scam a bunch of jumps on a classic and then go for the Skyflyer? Or would this be biting of too much? I am flying my trusty Sabre at around 1.2 so the openings are fine. Also what is the difference between TAS & SAS? Having borrowed a pro-track I for these jumps I am interested to know how they actually work? Cheers! "Don't blame malice for what stupidity can explain." 11. Suggest that rather than speculate wait for the official report, believe that a preliminary will be out tomorrowish with the salient points. "Don't blame malice for what stupidity can explain." 12. Bill Would be an interesting thing to see: and be able to show others I am a firm believer in the idea of groundspeed - call it the kallend school of thought Anyway some people think differently - BUT - last weekend on a very high upper day a FF coach almost had someone go through him while he was under canopy. Makes for some very spectacular footage - I would say that he was less than 10 metres away at full terminal (reaching just getting the PC). Anyway everyone ended up seeing the footage and I was able to connvince a few more people about exit seperation. We were told that winds were about 60knots or so at height so I knew to leave a hell of a delay. 20 seconds or thereabouts. Remember even if you end up spotting a touch long the chances are you will make it back with that sort of breeze. One thing I always try to do is check the GPS prior to exit (where possible) to get a better feel for the wind if I am not sure. Be safe! "Don't blame malice for what stupidity can explain." 13. The other factor other than focal length is (I believe) the size and type of the Imaging CCD. That is the reason that essentially the same camera PC9 v 101 will prudce a different effect with the same wide angle lense "Don't blame malice for what stupidity can explain." 14. Really loved the opening; very relaxing openings and with camera it has been a dream compared to the Sabre. Oh a question on the lines - they 550 Vectran? Can I get thicker brakelines straight from the factory? Yeah I guessed as much but I reckon the more info/opinions the better! "Don't blame malice for what stupidity can explain." 15. Hey All; I am just looking for some info on Crossfire 2 as I am thinking about getting rid of my trusty old Sabre. I have had some experience with the Crossfire 1 (say 20-30 jumps) and I was wondering how alike the 1 is compared to the 2? Its a fun canopy and the openings are very so fantastic so I am pretty tempted to get one, before I do however I would like to get a few more opinions. More specifically I was wondering - how does the riser pressure compare? Jumping a modded 1 that had massive riser pressure was a drag - has this been resolved? Turbulence - I am loading up a 129 at around 1.5 or so, and the canopy has felt more squirrely in turbs. In addition I have used this canopy a bit in filming CRW and it really is not a happy camper sitting in the burble. SO how is the 2 in respect to turbs? Anything else interesting about the canopy that I should know? Cheers! "Don't blame malice for what stupidity can explain." 16. To get away from the Cypress debate - a hypothetical - Your on a 20way or so, at around 5 or 6k some one busts in the formation and shreds the formation, bodies fly everywhere and people are at different levels but still in relatively close proximity. Do you (a) stay with the clump of crap till breakoff (b) try and rebuild something and then breakoff (c) Track off I used to be a big fan of option b but as I have gotten more experience I have become more of a fan of (c). That said, when I go I track hard and open up at the normal height - so I tend to cover quite a bit of ground. (besides I love pouring on a good track!) Anyway - What would you do, why? 17. Just works on the principle of next in line - failing that when we realise that you are going to be okay, after that you are open game! "Don't blame malice for what stupidity can explain." 18. I would tend to disagree with this statement particularly in regards to lower time jumpers. With only 25 jumps body control is not going to be that good and not to mention limited tracking ability. With that level of skill it can be pretty easy to lose contact with base - having some try to track through you is not fun. Even less fun is having someone whipping by you in freefall when you are under canopy. (have video of a near miss - occupies 2 frames from a distance of a 2-3 metres). In regards to working out tracking - its a skill everyone should try to improve on, but I don't think that tracking dives are the best way to build upto a flat track as usually the base is not really going that fast. When you have a real top class back tracker the pace does pickup a bit but I am not convinced that it is necessarily the best way to learn. Do smaller jumps with good trackers - learn techniques and try to apply them. Did a 15way the other day - very good fun but by far and away I learnt more with a smaller 5 way tracking dive. The difference in speed was huge and I really had to push it. To my shame I was beaten by 1 freeflier on his guts, Ohh well more to learn I guess. Enjoy the Rel-suit and learn as much as you can, learn to fly on your stomach and to be safe before you try to pickup the pace. 20. Stay away from chains such as that as you will get hosed. I am in Melbourne and I am lucky enough that along Elizasbeth street there is at least 6 places to get prices from. You might want to check out some of the online places but I don't have much experience on that score. "Don't blame malice for what stupidity can explain." 21. Yeah I have 0.47 wideangle on my 101. I am trying to match stills to vid (at least roughly). Retail in US maybe but buying any bloody thing in Australia tends to be more expensive. Hell the "retail" price on 300D's is2k ($1400 USD). Its the best price I have gotten by a fair margin. Any advice on the lense? "Don't blame malice for what stupidity can explain." 22. Hey all, Just in the process of getting my stills setup altoghether at the moment. I have an EOS 300V and was wondering if anyone has experience with either the 19-35 Tamron or equivalent? I know its not going to be the best piece of glass but I am looking for suggestions other than get a Canon prime lense. I am getting a pretty good deal on one, $500 AUD (or about 300ish US). The 19mm is overkill for what I need but I have not seen anything else new or second hand that I could would get me round to the 20-24mm area for this price. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is the lense a dud or what? On a side note; what is the equivalent focal length of Sony PC101? Cheers "Don't blame malice for what stupidity can explain." 25. Hey all, I have got a set of type 8 (large chunky ones) triple risers, I was wondering if it was possible to have these folded in on themselves and tacked back up to give me a set of risers that is effectively the same as type 17 mini-risers that would roughly have the same strength as the 8's? Is this possible or is it a bad idea? Cheers "Don't blame malice for what stupidity can explain."
