  1. There are a few places around that seem to rely on the passengers inexperience to dupe them into thinking they had a longer freefall. One guy I met said he did 2 tandems from 18000' on the same day. Special price for a high one. He liked the 1st one so much he did another. Asked him what sort of plane ? Small Cessna. Did he have oxygen ? NO. How long did it last ? He didn't have a clue. TM's wonder why they aren't so popular ?
  2. Instead of being led by the lowest common denominator or being led by the highest uncommon denominator we are led by the middle most common denominator. Mediocrity rules. That's us caught in the middle . Is there any 'true' royalty left to lead us out of this quagmire or are we all doomed to mediocrity rule? The slow demise of human consciousness appears inevitable once no-one is left who knows how to maintain the machine of world-wide democracy. Benevolent Dictatorship anyone? What to do when you realise that the media brainwashed minions are running the place? Declare war on your own society? War on drergs - War on Terriers? .. What's next ..War on War? Calling in the artillery .... "but that's your own position buddy..???" "It's OK there's only me left here...and I'm the only one dug in"
  3. in rep to 'so youre kind of having a go at yourself!' I think you might of touched on something quite profound here. I like to think there isn't a drop of pommie blood in me... more like a mixture of Viking , and Irish. ( the odd pommie beauty might have been picked up on occasion I guess) You see my ancestors are amoungst the ones that whipped those pommies arses. Having a go at meself? I suppose so ..but from a much higher plane of reference such as " We are all connected and all a little part of god ."
  4. The Americans kicked the pommies out of their country 200 years ago. Since then the USA has helped save the pommies arses on several occassions. ..eg WW1 & WW2 ! Everyone but the pommies seem to realise that the USA owns & runs pommie land and can make it do anything it wants. That's why they back up the USA .....cause they have to............. or else! The pommies get their rocks off by picking on poor little Ireland and poor big Australia. I think its called a pecking order.
  5. In the decade before and during WW2 single engine aircraft developement was extreme. The Shneider cup races for floatplanes had a similarly extreme developement curve. The Italians produced some designs that had two V12's in line in very small aircraft...big wide props. One of these floatplanes had to be lined up 90 degrees from the take -off line due to the effects of the engine torque turning the aircraft during full-power take-offs. Designs that originally had less than 1000HP were boosted to well over 2000HP .This included aircraft such as the British Spitfire and the German Me109. Spitfires and Me109's in particular were susceptible to these effects (engine torque ) you describe. Twin engine high performance aircraft such as the Lightning , Mosquito and the Hornet had 'handed 'engines in an attempt to cancel out the torque forces. 'Handed' means each engine in the twin installation turned in a differrent direction. The designers found that some aircraft performed better with downward (in the middle ) turning props as opposed to upwards (in the middle ) turning props. This is due to the effects of the different swirl patterns of the prop-wash over the wings and stabilisers. Each aircraft was different and no particular 'rule' emerged . Sometimes a simple fin extension would cure a major problem.....sometimes not. When the USA initially released the Lightning for RAAF use early in WW2 they provided the British with aircraft in an unhanded and unsupercharged version. This gave the P38 a reputation for being a real dog....with the British . In American usage the P38 was handed and supercharged making it a superlative long-range fighter especially in the pacific region. Aint aircraft history great
  6. I'm waiting for some-one to invent a wing-suit tarnnel...mite have to do it myself PS RIP ?? I'm already dead..... that's what makes life such fun.
  7. Ageless............. as your poll categories confirm
  8. Sorry couldn't resist this . ...My answer DZ.COM at the fire.
  9. Suggestion only.... IF at a reasonable altitude (see AFF instructor guidlines for reasonable altitude) and not out of control and they are obviously unconscious ,,,..give them a shake... if no response DUMP THEM OUT immediately ..main or reserve whichever is easier to get to. If low you can hold their reserve handle or main deployment and just dump yourself out . If you value your life above theirs and you are very low don't dump them out first ..it may be the last thing you do . There are a few people out there who have caught and saved an unconscious freefaller by diving down & dumping them out . The limp bod tends to go into a "no lifter' and can be extremely hard to get to. An American Skydiver of the Year some time ago did this and only caught the bod at a very low altitude before dumping out himself . That guy was one hot skydiver ....still out there buddy? A pommie tandem guy+pass got saved a few years back by the camera-man after the pilot was choked to unconsciousness by the drogue bridle . Camera persons have helped out similarly on multiple occassions. There have also been a few sad incidents where the deceased buddies had to give up trying and dump out low. Semi-conscious students get dumped out every day by AFF instructors around the world. I was knocked a bit stupid (greyed out then came back seeing stars) on a high speed DC3 exit as a novice. Some people think I never got over it If you're doing something new and different extra caution and head protection is usually good advice.
  10. New a few Mature types that used to do this all the time .. man could they ever squint good.
  11. in reply to-Well if you are stil under a malfunction at 750ft (decending over 35m/sec). You already screwed up yourself. Your AAD gives you a last change. If you breakaway at this point you are rather sure you are going to die! First off a 750' manual cuatway at terminal velocity is VERY survivable .. certainly not time to give up. Some maths? One Nasty Little Scenario. 1000' main deployment- (whoops) 2 seconds later not opened ?--you're at -600' Cutaway reserve activation....1 second....400' 2 seconds later not opened .....0' In this situation your AAD could possible kill you by putting the reserve into you main. I know a lot of you are closed to such thoughts but if AAD's are going to get better and smarter I feel such issues need adressing not just dismissed by the "well we gave you a second chance.. what more do you want?" type arguments. I'm just wondering if having the AAD makes it more likely for you to be in such a situation? ...due to you being less cautious 'cause ya got an AAD to think for you when you don't for some reason. If this is the case you're scaring me by being so dependent on an electrical gadget. I've noticed that the incident and fatality rates don't really seem to have improved that much since AAD's have become common place. If anything they seem to have increased -markedly. I'm guessing ( not the same as assuming! ) this is due to a drop in the training standards due to an over reliance on AAD's & the over commercialisation of sport skydiving...and yeah I suppose more people do skydive now ???? Go low comps before BASE gave go low types an outlet may well have altered the stats somewhat. Perhaps some-one with a flair for statistics and an open mind could help out here? I think AAD's are a great invention... just think we deserve the manufacturers to continue improving them... like by providing an ACAD(auto cut-away device )....this should be too easy and would create a whole new market for electrical/pyrotechnical dependency. Then they could work on an auto flare device for student and reserve use ....and no I'm not joking
  12. G'day there , I requested that this thread be removed to protect the Italian ladyi n question.....and it hasn't been! If I've created an extra burden for her I AM SORRY. Still lernin' Trae

    Just another newt

Hello out there all & especially to any-one I may have annoyed recently....sarrry. DZ.com is a real treat for me and I'm very impressed with it as a resource and potential community. I've sort a been testing the water a bit . I have what I believe to be genuine inquisitive nature that sometimes drops a bit short on the communication side of things. I'm still learning to comminucate adequately with those I care about. Too many I's in this but it's all yous out there that are really impressive. Sorry if I've been a bit short with a few of you . I feel that I'm growing up real fast. Thanks for tolerating this little newt ...i can feel the salamander stage approaching and hope that makes me a bit more sociable and presentable Thanks again looking forward to heaps more fun on DZ.Com I haven't laughed so hard for years and think I may have ruptured somthing inside. Also my dreams now have a lot of new participants . Cheers and lots of applause from Trae ( shhhh.....say somethig nice... I thought I just did)
  14. The reason I asked without giving TOO much specific information is that I wanted to check first rather than just come out and repeat some-else's malicious rumour. All I really know about this is what I've been told ... hence the ????? Vested interests have swept this under the carpet. Apparently she was not the only victim and from what I hear it was some edge-dwellers with some bad connections that did this. OZ has real psych cases like anywhere who prey upon innocents for various reasons. Thanks for the pointers and yes it is being worked on here too. None of us need the 'real' cookoos getting too close . Please don't let this put you off a trip to OZ....it's beautiful over here ..most of the time. Ciao Baby,
  15. Didn't need one for about 2 years and 800 jumps cause I kept my eyes open. Then some newbie tried to make me ride the plane down when he noticed. DUR
  16. re:-I don't get it. Sometimes paranoids are telling the treuth. The bastards didn't get me -----yet. Some of us have xtra eyes.
  17. Just be a little while ,have to check the dungeon and keep a few wheels spinning. Thank you for this thread . Sweet sweet revenge. Never give up, Never let go
  18. Any of Jimmy Tylers love childs still around?
  19. Thanks for the answers. I feel better now knowing that every one out there (at least DZ.commas) is not totally addicted to luvin' their Cypres more than the sport.
  20. Spittin' lizardz. You need a special harness (made out of rope works ) for this one with 4 loops to allow 2 teams of two to face off in a 'down on all fours' position.. Get : a tiled or lino floor that will be slippery when wet. -A beer each. -A line marked on the floor. This is basically a tug-o-war made difficult by the participants drinking their beer and spitting it on the floor near their opponents hands & knees. Good idea to use cans not bottles otherwise nasty injuries can result. Whichever 2way drags the other over the line wins. Wins what I have no idea.
  21. Man... that is one cool 20 mm take out machine.
  22. What happens when a stream of consciousness reaches the ocean ? Does it evaporate or just provide an environment for fish ? I asked a Piscean but she's still asleep looking for the answers. Without Virgos the librans and leos would finally get to take over but then who'd get to look in the mirror all the time?
