  1. in reply to;'Funny you should say that becuase... Some of the most experienced people I know won't jump with a pop-top. ' You and those experienced people you talk about mustn't have had to scrape up the left overs after reserves that wouldn't open due to reserve pilot chutes and reserve bridles entangling with closing flaps........... ................................sort of changed our minds a bit about closing flaps over the top of reserve PC's Also I wonder how many bench reserve activations you've seen fail due to pilot chutes getting caught beneath closing flaps?.
  2. If you like pop-tops (quickest reserve pilot chute deployment with no flaps to push out of the way) then it's hard to go past a Reflex. Some people will say they're no good because of such and such but any problems they may have had other rigs have also demonstrated..more often . The Reflex also has a double reserve pilot chute set up further increasing the reserve deployment performance. Some of the most experienced people I know won't jump with anything but a pop-top.
  3. Thought with a match or two the oil bird would become...... the.... FIREBIRD..... Nice web site building by the way ...I want to do something similar but'm not sure which program to use. Any suggestions??
  4. inreply to-'As always, theres two sides to every story and I was at that event.' Perhaps you can enlighten us as to at least one version (yours) of events . inreply to 'As such I think its more than a little harsh for people to call us aussies a bunch of 'rough' 'psychos'. From what I heard the lady in question was the one that received the harsh treatment. Are you saying it was at the hands of 'rough' psychos? ? ? As indicated previously I requested this thread be removed to protect the lady in question. Once again I apologise if my desire to find the truth has caused her any extra burdens. As for what truly happened to her.... we're none the wiser... are we.? Any serious ramifications will hopefully (and karmically) find their proper owner(s). I hope she's OK and with those that are capable of caring for her adequately.
  5. You're one of THE rocks Nick, cheers and applause from Trae

  7. If you recognise yourself there G'day . Perhaps some -one could share what is was like to fly such a big oiler. Apparently the Skyraider (Douglas AD7) was the last single engined fighter/attack plane on the US inventory. Sort of shows why turbines beacame so popular. This thing could lift more than its own weight in fuel and ordnance. initial climb 3200ft/min max weight 25000 lb (11350kg) Serv ceiling 25000' max speed 343mph What a wild jump ship it would have made with a few mods
  8. yep the price at the bowsers here goes up every week lately even though they've still got the old fuel in them. This makes it less fun driving to the DZ or any where else. I've noticed there's fewer cars on the road and most people seem to have slowed down a bit....especially large 4WD's. There's also less motor homes getting about. The fuel price future looks bleak here with the current gov.in charge . People predicting (some say they know ) that it'll be $3 litre ($13.50 gal) within 2 .5 years. Paid over $1.20 litre today and that was advertised as cheap.
  9. Thanks Bob dino, You're right... it sounds like the best deal available Hope there's lot's of wingsuitin' goin' on. Squeak mite be goin' for a job there or something ?? Cheers
  10. You want paranoid? Here it is. ( or who told you) Found some vveery interesting sheet’ that goes a certain way to explain some of the amateurish attack psychology that goes on round here. Its a series of extracts from an article from a decaying mag found in da attic Here is it......... “ As most of us know there are numerous ways to manipulate people’s thoughts and beliefs. In particular , the status of public figures allows them to be used in the brainwashing process. Especially if they’ve been criminally compromised. Most of the victims are usually non public figures who’ve expressed peaceful, honest views which conflict with those of the powerful and the wealthy. The resultant silencing and discreditation of these targets allows information to be suppressed. To understand fully what follows you must first concede that we have all been mushroomed and brainwashed on cerrtain matters. PSCHOPOLITICS This is the false labeling of targets as “crazy” to stop them questioning or commemting on the criminal activities of the ruling class. Sadly ,as with many things channeled through the corrupt mainstream media , the public doesn’t realise this goes on let alone that public figures can help support, hide and foster it. The use of corrupt or ignorant psychiatrists and officials is a classic example of deception on a grand scale. Public figures can be easily conditioned to believe that they are superior citizens. Couple that with the compromises in morality that can be effected by a ready supply of money , drugs , sex or whatever and you have a powerful group of people that “they” can use . These people can be singers, actors or sportsmen etc that can lose carreer opportunities if they question the illegal practices around them and may even be set up for shame/humiliation. The brainwashers are referred to as psych operators. These psych operators now lurk amongst the professional psych ranks and elsewhere, acting as a cancer to destroy what little truth or integrity remains on certain taboo matters. A specific example of brainwashing the brainwashers (esp psychiatrists) is the textbook coverage of the condition called “ paranoid schizophrenia.” Students and practitioners are told its a common disorder evidenced by feelings of persecution, mood swings etc which, largely, also describe what any knowledgeable law enforcer would expect to find from the victims of covert crime. However the psychiatric fraternity is told nothing about the methods/technology available to covert agencies and organised crime figures. They are not informed that ‘operators’ harass innocent private citizens (mercilessly )if they question or criticize lucrative criminal practices. The victims usually approach ignorant /culpable local police ,doctors, journalists or politicians for help and are either ignored or institutionalised: listed as paranoid & or shizophrenic. The correct move would be to contact human rights activists or honest federal police but naive community leaders are phonies who’ll sell them out without a second thought.” This article just keeps getting better and better . How far down the rabbit hole are we? Me?... I’ll take the blue pill cause it reminds me of the sky
  11. Just a bit more ...after you manually ensure your legs are in the desired position (wide apart and straight but not rigid) as you straighten your back allow your hands to slide along the outside of your legs and then rest near your hips. After you check the horizon you can gradually spread your arms out in a relaxed fashion. A few + a few practises on the ground will make this easier . perhaps you can let us know how it goes ?
  12. Whoa is that really a $5 reduction? from last year? ... at Picton? What height for $20 bloke? if 14000'+ alrite ....
  13. Please get over it ..... you're not gonna be holding them back no matter what you do. They asked for the basics ......they got em.
  14. You can actually learn a lot from 'horror' stories. Learning from other people's mistakes or 'bad' luck is a very good way to mentally toughen yourself enough so that if the 'horror' story does happen to you you may not simply freeze but may still be capable of doing something to save yourself. Some people do seem to take delight in scaring people though and if this is done at inappropriate times (like to a student just before they climb out ) it can just seem cruel rather than a learning experience. One of the most common things if you read the fatality reports is that a lot of the deceased went in without pulling all their handles. Perhaps if you get over the 'horror' stories you'll end up seeing them for what they are ....things some-one died to teach us. There's clear air past the horror and you get there with confidence by improving your safety standards and general knowledge. Have fun--- it's not a death sport but a very much alive sport.
  15. Allowing for exponential growth or exponential lack of interest this could change to never or some other exponent
  16. When I first started ..no dreams . after a while more and more.. usually the one where the parachute falls as fast as me and I have to keep pulling it in and throwing it out again (hang over from manually deployed reserves?) Then a series of impossibly small parachutes impossibly far above me with incredibly long lines that don't seem to slow me down (bag- lock dreams) I've lost count of the number of bounce dreams and have seen and still do see heaps of low break off multiple bounces on the side of hill incidents in dreams. Just the other night I had to look away cause two more bounced close by. Once a person bounced right next to me when I was walking to the plane with a student. Then I started bouncing ... it gets kinda fun.. Now I look forward to skydiving dreams and love it when other people share their dreams with me. They haven't all be bouncers ...heaps and heaps where I end up in the plane without my rig and do the jump anyway floating around laughing with my skyfriends. It doesn't seem to matter if I'm doing a lot of 'real' skydives at the time or not.. the dreams just seem to come when they want although I have noticed a big difference when I'm not consuming any alchohol.
  17. Not having done any flocking at night this is only conjecture....But I'll have a go. For base flocking ..some-one else would know better. For skydiving ..well... I have done multiple night demo's where we staggered the opening heights from 6ooo' down to 2ooo'. this was freefall not wingsuiting.Something similar might be possible here. Where this comes unstuck is if some-one breaks the sequence so take care in who goes where. Lights, lights and more lights. Making sure you and others are visible under canopy can make night jumps much less stressful. I use a strong beam headlamp on top of my helmet (this will light up a landing area if I have to land off for some reason.) I also have a LED footlamp for the flying bit (not so bright) and a colour flasher for use under canopy. The flashers are good for showing up other canopies at a glance. With the idea of not getting too big too fast perhaps a 2way would be good to start with after you've done a few by yourself ...as long as you have some other night jumping experience. Then you could simply have one person dumping at break off with the other giving it another 1000'. This would give you some good separation. With bigger night flocks some form of breakoff in stages could work well keeping the inner close so that some hold is kept on where the bods are. Perhaps the outers getting away first leaving the next in to leave 1000' later fanning out and cranking away...followed by the next ones leaving the leader to dump out last. Upping the heights a bit wouldn't hurt to start with. Only suggestions here and fully recommend doing this only with people who have proved their discipline in the air with you. If you can see the other canopies semi-normal rules apply re direction of circuit and holding in brakes etc. Getting too big a flock too fast ..not a good idea. This is gonna be a lot of fun if it's done safely.
  18. Landed out early one foggy morning from a beacon spot in the hills miles from the DZ. On the walk out I passed a group of horseman who had just killed something ???? They didn't respond to my greeting but just looked at each other as if to work out what to do to me. I kept walking cheerfully & as soon as I got out of their sight.... I ran. oh no this has made me remember a whole series of run in with rednecks. Another time I was nearly run over on purpose by a bunch in a 4WD who kept turning back and having another go at me...whoops some things are better off forgotton....
  19. Got an idea for another thread.....Head down Accelerated Free Fall ....yippee here comes the future ... This'll go well with head down Tandem ...lots of fun with a lightweight experienced passenger. Is the sky the limit or just the edge of space?
  20. Heard about a guy who specialises in sunrise shots . he takes a shot of every sunrise (he's a surfer) and then goes around selling them to people who've had a baby born on that day. Thought you could do this with sunsets as well for people who've lost a loved one on that particular day. I won't mind say 5% commission.
  21. you'll get sick of promite soon,, you turncoat you,,,, and then you'll be runnin' back home to us vegemites. Can promite or marmite do this.......?? (jpg) ? ps I've got a spare carton of uneaten promite if you want it cheap
  22. in reply to : Check out Skydive The Farm's website, if you get a chance! The monthly re-curring boogie deal is something I will be taking advantage of very soon! And like I said, no problem with attention to the newbies...the DZO has almost 6000 jumps and answers any question I have, as do the other staff! Will do sounds like a good place. It makes a BIG difference doing it with da good guys . Cheers
  23. MT??.......TAME em ta EAT M .. aaaaeeee
  24. inreply to "Sometimes, even when precautions are taken, shock cooling can, over a period of time, lead to more costly annual inspections and maintenance down time. I'm definately not a DZ owner, but I can see the expense and potential headaches it has caused! I say talk to an experienced DZO, and get the inside track on operating one...you may not be so quick to judge. ' You're right of course. My sightseeing trip (which did involve several climbs and dives from height as well as some mild aerobatics and mounatin swooping )was different to a skydiving ride to height and back down again type strain on the aircraft. And yes a load of grubby damaging skydivers would convince most owners not to use their deluxe aircraft. This guy suggested I might like to hire his workhorse with a pilot less experienced than himself who would also pay for a % of the time thereby further decreasing the costs. This is a case of two different sports working together rather than one capitalising on the other. From some of the other replies this appears to happen in parts of the world. On the 'shock cooling' topic I've seen an aircraft throw a cylinder and prop and just manage to do a DS landing before the engine fell out . The guy operating it was seen tightening something with a shifting spanner just before the load took off. That incident was blamed on a cooling problem . We were glad that aircraft got taken out without killing any skydivers. Me ? Judge ? I'll leave that to the experts... prehaps .
