  1. 14 years, 10 months, 29 days and 18 hours. I have never been without since my first jump. I am a Rigger, Commercial Pilot, Jumpmaster, Videographer, 4-way competitor. I met my wife at the DZ, she was my student, now I'm hers. My first child was conceived at the DZ (her name is Skyler Jayde Jacobson). I moved 9 miles from the DZ. So, I can relate. It only gets better as you improve and learn. I have not stopped learning and improving yet. Welcome to a world of endless fun and enjoyment, I hope you never leave. We can always use the company. HPDBs, I hate those guys. AFB, charter member.
  2. Are your wingload numbers correct Mr. Nelson. Just wondering. Sorry for the Hijacking, but I thought I was kinda stupid loading my 89s over 2.3 with 4-way lead. I have jumped as low as 63, but to jump at that wingload regularly is crazy. It also shortens your surf by 1/2 over a 2lbs per loading. Plus you already have almost no forgiveness at 2 so at 3+ you have none. I hope this is a mistake. Let me know, please. I am not a conservative, but jumping that heavy does no good for anyone. Especially you. I can't believe I said any of that, I am getting old I guess. I just love the sport and the people in it. my DZ has only one women I and she doesn't instruct anymore. I wish we had more. They are so much better to look at and be around then guys. I like them even if they're not hot young bi-sexuals who want me bad. I just did the math in my head and the numbers must be wrong, or you are the biggest mofo I have ever seen skydiving. sorry for blowing up. HPDBs, I hate those guys. AFB, charter member.
  3. Double stowing your lines at the gromet could cause problems, it is rare, and usually caused by being sloppy. but we are all sloppy from time to time(not me ever, ask anyone who knows me) Will the bag not close right with small rubber bands? I am a small rubber band freak. I pack a 1000+ mains a year and the extra 10 seconds of doubling every stow adds up to almost 3 hours of extra pack time, screw that. if you can get comfy packing with the rubber bands that are designed to be used with small lines, it would be better. And you should replace all your rubber band after each jump. Brush after each meal and make sure you cuddle after sex. HPDBs, I hate those guys. AFB, charter member.
  4. It is most likely that the riser cover was torn by the speed and ferocity of the opening. Instead of a nice smooth extraction, the risers went from stowed to unstowed in .0003 seconds. This could easily be the cause of the spin after opening but not the hard opening its self. This would indicate that the canopy was almost fully open at line stretch. Or became open almost instantly afterwards. I have packed about 15000 sport rigs and have found that most bad openings are body position. To get a S2 to open that hard you were ether doing well over the speed limit at deployment or a bad pack job. Only you can know which of these actually happened. Good luck figuring it out. 5. That can be a bummer. It's all the more reason to get off student status and get your own gear then most wind and weather wont stop you. Good choice on AFF not tandem. Saved you a lot of time and money having to go back and train. weather in the spring is a problem but it will get better. finish up your AFF and get jumping, it only gets better. If you think your having fun now just wait. Skydiving is incredible, beyond anything you can imagine I hope you putting your money aside now, because it will take some of the green to get were your going. I almost forgot, Welcome to DZ.com and Welcome to the world of skydiving. HPDBs, I hate those guys. AFB, charter member.
  6. When it comes to food, you had better not leave anything at the DZ for more then a week or it's mine. As far as the pot of gold, I leave $15000 worth of stuff there and the DZO has at least triple that. We are a club and most of the jumpers who make more then 100 jumps a year have the keys to the DZ. We are not the most coth(not sure about spelling sorry) or well mannered but there is honor among skydivers. We had a thief at Rantoul this year and it was awesome how the group came together as a whole. We all kept an eye open and watched each others backs. we got him and everyone got their stuff back. I refuse to believe that any skydiver is a thief until he proves it to me. I know thats dangerous but I love the sport and the people in it. So, thats just the way I am Plus I have very good insurance HPDBs, I hate those guys. AFB, charter member.
  7. skydiving is a disease. It is not necessarily contagious, but you can spread it. Skydiving is a sickness that is selective, it takes the strong, those unafraid to push themselves and those around them. It dies out over time in some but in others it only grows stronger. I am one of the latter, afflicted with this particular aliment. it makes you feel euphoric and happy all the time. All that is required to receive these feelings is your complete and utter surrender to it. Once given you can still have your life back but it takes more and more to recover as time passes. It has been 14 years 10 months 23 days and one hour since I contracted this illness, and I have not been able to escape its hold on me. I hope you can become one like me. I would'nt mind the company. I have more good memories then most people will have in a hundred years of life. I pity those who are never infected because they will never know how much they are missing. That response kinda got out of hand, sorry. I just ment to say Welcome to the forums and welcome to the best times you will ever have. SKYDIVE!! HPDBs, I hate those guys. AFB, charter member.
  8. Sounds like you did well with your EPs. What altitude were you open under reserve? Who packed the main on that jump? Not knowing you, but knowing a lot of jumpers with 50 jumps I wonder did you stop tracking and then wait for your forward downward speed to return to normal? Or just dump as you brought you legs in? It is most unlikely that the RSL came undone because of opening shock. It is possible but would be one in a bagagazilion chance. I have not heard of many bad openings on the 2s, they seem forgiving. As you find out more let us know Glad your alive. Sorry about your new canopy. HPDBs, I hate those guys. AFB, charter member.

  10. I still love my green stuff. I need to show my commitment to the new team though so I do what I can. I just got another FX 89 same colors as the rest of the team. HPDBs, I hate those guys. AFB, charter member.
  11. Hey Bill, we have been trying to get to the tunnel. None of us have had the time, it's just been a tough winter. I already have the jumpsiute. It just sucks that all my rigs are Gang Green colors. We haven't seen you this winter. I talked to your wife and she said you worked a lot, so I'll forgive. I even brought my fury to the helicopter boogie at Joe's. I hoped for some CReW Mo is a woman but the girl thing works from time to time . HPDBs, I hate those guys. AFB, charter member.
  12. I own one Wings and two Javs. All articulated. I love them all, but the articulated harness on the wings in superior. The customer service has been good for both. Wings built me a custom non standard size container. I didn't even ask for that. They asked me if I would like a one of a kind for no charge. I just asked Wings if I could be a dealer yesterday, so I am biased. I would say, that there is no bad rig out there. If a rig is a poor design it doesn't last. So any modern rig that fits properly, is going to be very good for you. Spend your money most efficiently so you can make more jumps. Wings is less expensive. HPDBs, I hate those guys. AFB, charter member.
  13. I don't even like jumping my canopies if they have not been jumped in more then two weeks. If you leave those things cooped up for that amount of time they get mad at you, they want to see you sufer just like they had to. Just kiding, sorta. You should see a reserve come out of the freebag after 120 days. They get a memory going and tend to stay in the shape of the bag. It still opens and because of the superior packjob a reserve gets it opens fast. It is best to leave the canopy in a warn dry dark place unpacked if you can but the memory factor should be no biggs. Of coarse the longer the snivel the more time the canopy has to get out of hand. I let my canopies go 3 weeks before I repack them. Fortunately that almost never happens. Though it has been 3 weeks for two of mine right now. I think I'll head over to the DZ and repack right now 3-2-1-see ya HPDBs, I hate those guys. AFB, charter member.
  14. The 99 is good for 175lbs in an emergency, but once the emergency is delt with and your flying your tiny reserve you better be on the ball. Flying any little canopy requires you to be way ahead of the game. Reserves that small and loaded that heavily are something else. my 109-M has only one ride on it, round 6 at an NSL meet. I had talked to PA and I knew how the canopy would perform at a 2 to 1 wing load (208 exit with lots of lead). If I hadn't done my research, talked with a lot of people and had 3000 jumps on 100sqft or less, I would have been in trouble. I had a nice landing in a field next to my freebag, but wow, it was like landing one of my 89fx's..., fast. the flight characteristics of a heavily loaded 7-cell reserve are not like anything else. the stall was surprising even with the knowledge that I had, I expected more warning. I went back into freefall when the 109 stalled. I tested that immediatly after opening at 1500, only because of my studies.. So I knew that I had to fly the canopy to a certain point and PLF. Thats what I did and it all turned out OK but I am afraid of my 109 now and I pack and perform in ways that put me at least risk with that rig. To have a rig that you could wear all day and even forget is their you have to give up a lot. You also have to be kinda stupid. HPDBs, I hate those guys. AFB, charter member.
  15. Just keep crying about your weather you spoiled bitches. I would have my fingernails pulled out, at the roots with a rusty set of plyers if I could get an extra two or three months of above freeze temps. up here. You have it so good you just can't even imagine what it's like to skydive year round in an environment that hates you. HPDBs, I hate those guys. AFB, charter member.
  16. Lots of good advice here but like you said, " I already have my plan". Sounds like your fishing for some combative responses. maybe stir things up. Thats OK with me. You have your plan, so just go do it and don't hurt yourself. Have fun, but don't be a sally. HPDBs, I hate those guys. AFB, charter member.
  17. Doc Sherry from Texas is the ultimate skydiver vet in the world. I hope she gets this massage and responds to you. I am sure she can help. HPDBs, I hate those guys. AFB, charter member.
  18. A wing loading of about 1.33 (30 lbs. gear and clothes), on a 135 is not to bad. If you have a bunch of jumps. You should get a little more current and comfy before you get back on the Sabre. A few jumps on a bigger canopy, while you loss a little weight, would be a good idea. When you do get back on the Sabre (after your back to or near the old .93), a couple of jumps opening high would be a good plan as well. Going from a .93, to almost 1.4 will make your canopy fly a lot different. Don't do that. Take some time be safe. Now, if your 145 is exit weight, forget all that. Make a few jumps on big stuff then jump your stuff, Open high, get back to it. conservative advice, from me. Hmmm. I jumped a 63 VX with my comp lead a couple years ago(exit 209). Do the math. My wife did and she was mad. But thats a different story. I am getting old. I guess it's better to take it slow then get right back to it and get hurt. Plus you have the kid to think about. That was kinda the trump card, That will slow you down. Take it easy have fun. HPDBs, I hate those guys. AFB, charter member.
  19. I have ten times more jumps then any of the rest of the team but you talk party and these guys (and 1 girl) speak the language, wow. You will see us more this year then last, for sure. I am a working skydiver and have to be at home most of the time. It's awesome that Baldwin gets the Otter early this year. Maybe some of your jumpers will get out of the house before June.. We saw a lot of SDTCs jumpers this year, so there isn't so much rust to be cut lose this spring. WE WILL se ya soon HPDBs, I hate those guys. AFB, charter member.
  20. I have already responded to this in another forum but I will do it again here. Buddha was my hero in the early 90s, the guy had a great personality. He didn't hold back and tell you how great you did if you sucked. He was a true honest person. The last time I saw him we talked about our hot new mini-vans and how we would never go without again. we laughed and carried on, then he had to head home. I gave him a hug and told him we needed to seem him more. We really missed him. Now all those good times will only bring a tear to my eye. Some people who are a lot more important are going to miss him now. who cares about his skydiving buddies. His wife and family need to know how much the community he was a part of loved him and if you can maybe let them know. Blue Skies Buddha HPDBs, I hate those guys. AFB, charter member.
  21. I got the call yesterday from Duk and Gary peek e-mailed me. Bhudda was my hero in the early 90s and I am truly bummed by the loss. I remember the last conversation I had with him. We talked about our hot new mini-vans and how we would never be without them, now that we knew how useful they are. We laughed and carried on for a time then he had to go home. I gave him a hug and shock his hand, telling him he needed to come out again soon we really missed him. That was the last time I saw him. Now a lot of good memories will be painful instead of wonderful. Blue Skies Bhudda HPDBs, I hate those guys. AFB, charter member.
  22. The better the plan you have made for landing, the more consistent it will be. It all comes down to being current though. Sorry to tell ya, but it sounds like you know already. Learn to pack well, hang out at the DZ. you can pick up a lot of very good stuff from Osmosis. you may also pick up enough money from packing other peoples stuff that you can afford to jump a little more. If I don,t have my landing planned at the end of my track, I am behind the curve. The smaller canopy you end up with the farther ahead you have to be. Talk to your instructors see what they say. 23. It's always good to stick a real downer in there to bring everyone down, thanks. HPDBs, I hate those guys. AFB, charter member.
  24. It was still a good time we met a lot of good people. I love Skydive Chicago even if we didn't get the jumps we wanted to. We went and saw V is for vendetta. Good movie good friends, diner after was good we went down town Ott. to an Italian place. Got home early Sunday cleaned the house got things done. Much more productive weekend then if we had made a lot of jumps I guess. Still a bummer. HPDBs, I hate those guys. AFB, charter member.
  25. I have a bunch of jumps and I jump mal prone canopies. I have 7 and everyone came because of me letting my stuff get out of trim or switching from one rig to another without checking. 1 every 70, Wow. I only make a point of this (I wouldn't have) because you blasted the guy for asking a reasonable question. I am all about blasting people for some things but not just trying to learn stuff that he should be learning at this stage in his skydiving life. Givem a break. Good question.
