  1. It is nice that you have a good relationship with your packer, that gives you a better shot at a good opening. I have around 15000 pack jobs without a reserve ride on any of then. I am a rigger and I love to pack. I know that I am a freak. If you don't check the brakes, you need a serious sit down talk. I have pulled some bonehead moves, like not cocking the PC all the way, But the brakes? If that happens again to you or anyone this packer packs for I would say the proper action would be to say bye, bye forever from your DZ. I am very adamant about good pack-jobs. You take another persons life in your hand every time you pack for them. This is a serious business, our packers need to take it just as seriously. I sure am glad you came out of this one with everything in tact. HPDBs, I hate those guys. AFB, charter member.
  2. Thanks for the clarification. I thought that stuff was gen. knowledge. I have to remember I am talking to the general populous, not a bunch of pilots. Sorry about that. HPDBs, I hate those guys. AFB, charter member.
  3. I am very good at loading the dish washer. I have hand washed the dishes about 3 times since my wife moved in with me in 96. I hate doing dishes. HPDBs, I hate those guys. AFB, charter member.
  4. I have been sitting here at the computer for about 20 min. reading the posts in this thread. I have seen a lot of great suggestions. I can't see anything that hasn't already been brought up. The thing I do see is that you are the one shooting them all down, each and every one. You have an excuse for each, you have tried it, don't, can't, or wont do it again. It sounds to me as if you have made up your mind and you are just trying to say to everyone, "look, I tried everything". So hit the bricks. If your bored with this try something else. quit trying to make someone else convince you. Just leave and stop wasting our time. Sorry I am being so harsh, it's just who I am. I don't subscribe to the new age love, peace, joy BS. You do it or not, make up your mind. I have seen some great suggestions. The balls in your court. Let us know when you bowl your first perfect game. HPDBs, I hate those guys. AFB, charter member.
  5. What Andy says is about right. we do generally fallow the alpha, be it male or female. Of coarse the rogue element is always present, thats what skydiving is all about. Thats also what makes each skydiver so different. We get to take in all the info and make our own decisions I love this sport. Good luck. HPDBs, I hate those guys. AFB, charter member.
  6. there are at least 1.325 million variables involved here. These aircraft are so vastly different they hardly compare. The Porter is a high power bad ass lifter. The Cessna is a slow climber but ideal for a small not full time DZ. Climb rates don't compare. The porter burns karrosene, the cessna av gas. The porter is a tail dragger from the Swiss, the Cessna a trike for the US. If you get more specific I could get more detailed. HPDBs, I hate those guys. AFB, charter member.

  8. I had a good friend I started with, he slowed down then stopped and I didn't. I tried hard to get him to come out. It didn't work. that was 15 years ago. It's kinda like that t-shirt that says "my girl friend said that if I go to the DZ one more time she's gone..., I sure am going to miss her. You'll make knew friends at the DZ. It's sad but you can't stop living your life just to make your friend happy. Good luck. HPDBs, I hate those guys. AFB, charter member.
  9. Welcome to the forum JC. I would also like to welcome you to the wonderful world of addiction. The family has tried several interventions..., it never works. I have been the same way since May 11 1991. The world of skydiving just keeps getting better. If you can make it through the first 50g or so in expenses you can start making enough to eat. Sleeping in the tent at the DZ is OK after a while to. Eventually it all settles out and you realize there will never be anything else and your happy. Just kidding...,sortof. Glad to have ya joel HPDBs, I hate those guys. AFB, charter member.
  10. WOW!! we sure do love to tell everyone about ourselves. HPDBs, I hate those guys. AFB, charter member.

He got sent home when desert storm was complete. He asked me to find the nearest place and to go with him. so I went. I never left. Its been 14yrs 9mos.14 days and 1 hr since my first jump. 4. married for 8yrs. to a skydiver 5. 1 boy 3yrs 1 girl 5yrs 6. 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT, It's really cool for a mini-van. It has two TVs, fold away seats, electric doors and tail gate, big engine (good for 110mph) black, all tinted windows + I modified the intake for more HP and fuel economy. SO IT'S A MINI-VAN, JUST LEAVE ME ALONE. 7. Yes, it was more the norm when we didn't all wear full face. 8. Wisconsin 9. two dogs. my dog is "Jedie", begal, named after the canopy. 12. I can't believe these people attempt to continue with the stories after you tell them you are a professional skydiver with thousands of jumps and a small biz on the side doing video. I told a taxi driver that I was a jumper and he proceeded to tell me how he used to do 3-4000 thousand jumps a year with the Golden Nights. He wasn't a Night he just helped then and got to jump with them for free. It was so cool, He jumped every day 10 times or more and didn't have to do anything. He didn't know what kind of equipment and was very ambiguous about where. He couldn't remember any names. He said they jumped round chutes. This was about 5yrs ago. I know they jump some antiques but not rounds unless a special event. I asked how they flared and got no response. He must not have heard me. Wow, some people are so desperate to be someone. It's amazing, and sad as hell. HPDBs, I hate those guys. AFB, charter member.
  13. That leaves my DZ out. We get snow randomly even into May. Bummer HPDBs, I hate those guys. AFB, charter member.
  14. A standard C-182 with a O-470, 230hp, full, with 4 jumpers takes about 20 to get to ten. It consumes about 10 to 12 gallons. Summer and winter make substantial dif. At times you can't make ten with the fuel on board in the summer. I don't have the time in a 206 or 172, but a 172 would be useless with more then 3 on board and would probably consume the same amount of fuel as the 182 and take a little longer. On the other hand, a 206 would get up in a similar amount of time and carry 5. Depending on the engine, fuel consumption should be more then the 182 just a little. If the engine is a real monster all these planes can perform much better. It just maters how much money you want to spend. HPDBs, I hate those guys. AFB, charter member.
  15. Hey, how's East Troy. I am from Wissota. I taught Tom Joles how to skydive. I hope thats a good thing. I thought you guys ran Cessnas all Winter. the weather hasn't been that bad this year. If you want to come over to chippewa and make some winter jumps we can take care of you. Just ask any of the regular jumpers who make it over to our place for pumpkin toss. They can tell you all about us and how to get here we jump every weekend, winter, summer, spring and fall, it doesn't matter. Bring someone with, we would love to see someone from ET during the winter. After you come back from Eloy that is. HPDBs, I hate those guys. AFB, charter member.
  16. 15 will be in May for me. It's been an awesome ride. You will see my thread on May 11 telling about my 15. To be a woman and mother in this sport has to be so tough. My wife just couldn't do it after the first kid. Congrats, good job makn it this far. hope to see that 20yr thread. HPDBs, I hate those guys. AFB, charter member.
  17. Maybe you should turn off the 700 club and take some time to look at the real life consequence of the abolishment of abortion.. HPDBs, I hate those guys. AFB, charter member.
  18. It is the law of nature, that says imperfect children will not survive, or at least not for long. Only through our superior tech. have we been able to subvert the natural process. Abortion in the case of severe defect just makes life easier, for everyone. Abortion is a right at the moment. If this right is taken away we will return to coat hangers and rogue doctors. We will always have Mexico, you know it wont be outlawed there. This is just another right that will be taken from us by a president and mass political body who are controlled by a unrealistic idea of what the people want. If you don't want a baby you should not have one, if your baby is going to disable you because of the radical care it needs, you shouldn't have it. There are a lot of reasons to have the choice try to tell a person who could have gone on to college and become a productive member of society, that being another below poverty line single parent is the correct thing to do. Try to tell there child the same as they grow up unable to live anywhere but the slums. To not have legal abortion dooms so many, to a horrible life, they might as well be in hell. Lets take more rights away from the people. Abortion is one, how about the vote. We have much more qualified people who should be taking care of that. Start here and soon the body politic will find some reason to siop jumping from perfectly good airplanes. Give me a break, LET FREEDOM RING. HPDBs, I hate those guys. AFB, charter member.
  19. Show me a 3 that can float ten. I have not seen one that can float that many. HPDBs, I hate those guys. AFB, charter member.
  20. The Otter is simply the most efficient, good climbing aircraft there is. It has lots of room, is easy to fly, is easy to work on, is very forgiving, has a great door and because it is more common more people know how to exit from it. So, your skydives have a better chance of working when your dealing with a inexperienced group. Plus, you have to use it at nationals so you better get used to it. HPDBs, I hate those guys. 21. I did it this winter, New Years Day. Me and three other jumpers opened the show. It was a fund raiser for big bro. big sis.. I had to show everyone that skydivers do it better, so in the 25 degree weather I jumped in (from the airplane to the water) wearing only shorts. That wasn't smart. Being a cool dude only gos so far. The trick behind the Polar Plunge is, you go from warm to cold to warm without delay. Your bodies core temp never has the chance to drop significantly. Well I fixed that, I opened at 3G and flew my Fury around so everyone could see I had almost no clothes on. I was asked not to try to land in the hole so I landed about 3ft shy dropped my rig and stepped in. I was still trying to show everyone that skydivers are the toughest, so I held my breath and sat on the bottom for about ten seconds. when I came to the surface I could see the looks of disbeleif and I was happy. But I could no longer feel my legs and in throwing my legs up out of the water, hit the ice hard. I was cut a little but it didn't bleed much and I didn't feel it anyway. I got back to the DZ and only did one more that day. My knees hurt by then. Doing the Plunge is fine but there is no need to go to the extemes. I wont do that again. HPDBs, I hate those guys. 22. I feel perhaps I should explain myself, a little. I was a bit callous in my last post, sorry about that. Here' s the reason. The USPA puts out suggestions about time between jumps to give people a guideline to help them stay safe. If you exceed the durations that are considered safe, you are at risk. If you exceed these durations by a lot every time for a long period of time you become a liability. I live this sport, I love this sport. This sport represents a large part of my life. If you put yourself at risk you put me at risk to. if you go in, it makes it all the more difficult for the rest of us to go on. The more incidents involving skydiving, the more difficult it becomes to keep jumping. I don't want you to stop jumping, I want you to jump more. If money is an issue then learn how to pack. Then you can make at least a couple jumps every weekend. good luck I hope you can jump a little more. Sorry again for being so aggressive, But I want you to know how you could effect the rest of us. When it comes to the sports well-being I don't hold back. HPDBs, I hate those guys. AFB, charter member.
  23. Feb. 7, 1998. Because of equipment mal. I ended up hitting the ground a little harder then I intended. I pulverized my left femur (20 or so visible parts). broke my left knee cap in half. Broke the ball joint of my left femur in half. shattered my hip (7 visible fractures). Destroyed my splean. Burst my bladder(I had to pee I guess). Shattered my skull (6 visible fractures all emanating from the right eye socket). I was wearing a custom painted factory diver, smoked that. Tore the lining of the brain (dura layer). That shut me down for six f-n mos.. During that time I packed about 1000 sport rigs. I started training for my rigger rating. Spent so much time at the DZ it was crazy. learned to walk again bought a new GSXR 750 Yosh kit bike. bought a rig. My first jump back was at the World Freefall Convention. A 12 way with two vid. After opening my fury, I docked with another fury we did side by side and a down plane. Broke and flared. Of the 6 mos. off I only remember 3 so it wasn't bad at all. Since the accident I have made over 3000 skydives. gotten married bought a big house in the country. Had two awesome kids (boy and girl two years apart). As a result of that accident I lost 16 mos to the sport. I got a lot of really cool scars though, and a new perspective on life. spend more time with friends, do things you always wanted to. Take the time that you are given and make the most of it. HPDBs, I hate those guys. AFB, charter member.
  24. I still have the same feelings every time I jump. It only gets better. I pity those people who never find a thing like this in there life, Be it skydiving or something else. If you've got the bug, you will belong to skydiving forever. Welcome HPDBs, I hate those guys. AFB, charter member.
  25. Ok, if you look at our society you will see the effects of being raised by one parent or no parents. I am going to stop now because I will make enemies if I continue. Have a great day everyone. HPDBs, I hate those guys. AFB, charter member.
