  1. Practice, smile, practice, smile, Practice, smile, practice, smile, Practice, smile, practice, smile, Practice, smile, practice, smile, Practice, smile, practice, smile, and then lots and lots of don't give up you will get there. I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  2. The Australian Parachute Federation offer specific Insurance for your gear when ever it is not in use. I believe that your main is even cover in the event that you cut-away as it is deemed to be no longer in use (check that one for sure bob.dino??) I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  3. Going to vist a friend this morning who broke his femur on the weekend. Now he has a pin in his leg = out of jumping for 6 months. Wing Loading? 1.17 Wing Loading is Important! It is not the only importance. Attitude and Respect are just as important. He did not Respect his Experience (~140 jumps) which is a bad Attitude. To all my unknown friends out there 'Crawl, Walk, Run & FLY!' I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  4. I think that many people on this thread are forgetting something very important (especially my friendly US of A'ers ) and that is this sport was built on pioneering. Someone has to be the first. I for one have ordered two Argus units for my rigs (one of which has a cypres1 (to be sold shortly) and the other nothing) for a number of reasons. It is your perogative to sit back and wait to see if someone dies from a new idea/attempt/equipment etc. I will not berate you for it in the least. BUT remember that it is those that are willing to have a new idea/attempt/equipment that are progressing the sport. Without support from our sports followers (that is you and I my friends) then in this current financial world we live in they may not get their wonderful new idea/attempt/equipment out there for everybody to use. I do not have the mind of some of the great people in our sport with which to progress the sport (the likes of BB etc) but I can give a commitment to our sport to help support them. Remember all those friends and family of yours who state how 'dangerous' skydiving is while you listen politely and remind you that driving your car is more likely to get you killed. Consider in real terms the danger of supporting a new idea/attempt/equipment. What are the real dangers and how much of this is just fear of trying something new. That is not to say that all new ideas are a good idea and you must make up your mind for yourself as to what you are prepared to risk and that which you are not. I for one feel that the perceived risk of a new AAD is higher by far than the real risk. Rant over. I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.

  6. As a rule i use the opportunity to make them go through their EP's. When they come to collect their rig I go through monthly maintenance with them. This way I know that at least once every six months the risers are gettng flexed etc I find that it's a great learning curve for my clients edit:grammer I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  7. I have a home for your Delta 2. I am also looking for a Thunderbow. A collegue of mine has a Delta 2 and a Thunderbow (Yellow with Red Arrow) and we want to do demo's on them. PM me if you interested Thanks Koppel I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  8. I have been looking for one for ages to buy. Care to sell or know any one that would like to. as for reserve rides 1 for 1600, knew that the lines were getting badly out of trim. Had the spare line set in the cupboard at home and was 'getting around to it' to put them on. Major line twists on opening followed by a wild ride around the sky for a few seconds before becoming my second save. I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.

  16. ear Plugs have always been an absolute No-No where I jump, though I use them on the ride to height all the time. I believe that the reason for not using them in free-fall is to do with pressure changes and the possibility (?) of them moving too far down the ear canal. Not sure of the likelyhood of this and I have certainly gotten out a couple of times without taking them out. Landing with either both or only one. I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  17. Cuss at Wings?? Whats to cuss about Wings for, I mean little sizing issue shoudln't be a problem to someone with your experience I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  18. IIRC it was to do with seals and hardhousings indeed. They may have a computer with many fonts however, if they can forge my illegible handwriting and signature then they are doing very well indeed. I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  19. This is probably aimed at people who have been in the sport a little longer than myself. I heard today that someone I knew went in on a BASE Jump. The reason for this is not important, the loss I feel is. Three months ago another person ( who I knew a little from a DZ I jump at occasionally ) was lost to us from a landing (swooping) incident. I recognise that we take part in an activity that is not considered to be safe. As an Instructor I believe that it can be made as safe as most activities that we can partake in, be it riding a bicycle, driving a car or walking across the road. It is the way that we approach it that makes it as safe or as dangerous as it is. My question is how have people coped with the loss of people that they knew very little / people that they knew from the DZ / people that were good friends. What was it that helped you deal with the loss that you felt. It probably doesn't help that my partner is dealing with a parent that is dying at the moment but I put the question out there anyhow. My thanks to your responses I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  20. I was fortunate enough to discover that someone (a Chief Instructor / Reserve Packer ) had swapped a cypres in a rig for another and reclosed it without putting any details on the card (I repacked the reserve at no cost to the client when I discovered this) . No details of the cypres that was installed, nor service details, next or last battery details or his own details on the card to say he had done anything to the rig. I care, but cannot control if someone decides to take a rig into their loft for a re-pack and choose's to "pencil pack" with their own name and number. I care and am seriously PISSED OFF when someone does work on a rig and leaves my name and number on the card. I learnt from this experience to seal my rigs ( not a requirement in Australia ). I was advised that the lead seals have been implicated as potential problems in accidents by the Director of Riggers here in Oz, with the suggestion to use a paper seal. The technique is to use the safety tie thread in the same manner but to use sticky labels folded over the knot in the safety tie instead of the lead seal. The benifit of using a label in place of the lead seal is that I can record extra information, including the date of the pack / date of the next due pack / my own details/stamp etc. I am still following up this incident so feel that it would be inappropriate to comment further. 21. Your not missing anything, It's a Racer I found after the twenty'ith or thirty'ith it got a lot easier Keep it up and just remember to go slowly until you get a rythym then its a breeze. Congrats anyhow I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  22. Well my "simple rules" are Lines tensioned and to the centre of the pack job and material to the outside Slider up against the stoppers and pulled forward of the nose anything else is fluff and nonsense I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
  23. Well maybe its because I only have ~200 TM's or maybe its the paranoia but.. gear up - thorough handle/drouge check plus practice EP's board a/c - hook up lowers onto student and handle/drouge checks on ride to height probably automatically 4-5 handle/drouge checks while doing handy-cam video of student connect student, handle/drouge checks pre-exit at door check drouge drouge out check handles plus 1-2 more checks in f/f depending on exit height just realised while writing this that I do not do checks of handles after gear/canopy checks on opening. Will now add that to list. So does the paranoia go away?!?! I mean just 'cos I think the students out to get me doesn't mean their not I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
