  1. Someone is using bogus numbers. How does 355 in one year (www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2015/12/02/the-san-bernardino-mass-shooting-is-the-second-today-and-the-355th-this-year/) square with 133 over 14 years? Obama is changing the way he counts again. 355 in one year is calculated by 4 people shot in one event. 133 over 14 years is calculated by events where 4 or more people are killed (the old way of counting). Kind of like when he changed the way he counted deportations to make it look like he was tough on immigration, now he trying to make it look like there is a gun problem. 2. Don't blame me, I learned from Obama. He sets new land speed records to get on top of dead children's bodies to rally for gun control. So anyway: Hillary: I won't rest until we get the person who made the video to incite these attacks! Obama: ISIS is the JV team. GM is alive and Bin Ladin is dead. This was just a case of "Work Place Violence." Joe Biden: All you got to do is blast your shot gun in the air to scare these people off. Black Lives matter: This carnage is nothing compared to the daily onslaught of african americans by police. Liberal America: If only the Republicans/ NRA would have allowed France to pass some common sense gun laws. My liberal hero Rob Emmanuel said don't let a crisis go to waste, so I won't. He's doing a bang up job in Chicago. On a more serious note, the death toll is over 150 now. It looks like there were 8 people involved in the attacks at 6 locations. Some I've even heard in mentioned on the news that some people are calling this France's 9/11. My heart truly does go out to the victims. Don't let my "Speakers Corner" persona fool you. 3. Grimmie's Law. It's just like Goodwin's, only change Hitler with Obama. Hey, I'm just trying to give this thread some perspective. This attack in nothing compared to AGW. That's what the left keeps saying, right? "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." 4. Meanwhile Obama is getting ready to talk about the number one threat to us all, Climate Change. "This terrorist attack is nothing compared to the deadliness of AGW....." 5. This is rubbish. The gun control act of 1968 made drop-safety testing mandatory for all gun manufacturers. I can take a loaded handgun and skip it across a parking lot and it wouldn't fire. He will probably also throw in a couple round about insults that skirt edge of the rules of SC.... How close am I? If your aim is no better than that when shooting, you should take up bowling instead. I provided links to a bunch of news articles in which it is reported that guns discharged on being dropped, and the investigating police agreed. Your ridiculous "conversation" and ropeadope's silly essay are just the kind of excuses I'd expect from you. Well, your reply didn't question anything I posted and you got straight to the round-about insult, so I would say I did pretty good.... "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. 6. It goes back to fear. Just about everybody has a car and nobody fears them. Once you understand that a lot of the gun rules and regulations along with attempts to ban guns is not rational and it's all fear based you are able to cut through a lot of the arguments. #carryeverywhere along with a lot of the open carry movements are designed to start addressing those fears. If people could have a debate without all the fear and other emotions, I think answers will finally start to come forward. But for many reasons, Democrats will never let that happen. They will continue to promote how dangerous firearms are, continue to push for more regulations/bans, and continue to get the public to voluntarily disarm themselves because they will never be able to over turn the 2nd Amendment. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Life, the Universe, and Everything
  7. In both cases both conversations are driven by emotions. One is fear and the other is excitement/desire. Either way it never ends good. The problem with the gun debate is not only are you dealing with fear, but you also have a mob mentality to deal with also. This conversation would have been a lot easier 60 years ago before the Democratic party started teaching fear of firearms. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. 8. Difference being in the other forums you know the person is the problem. You have a rational discussion and come up with a plan that is safe. When in comes to guns, well, the guns is the problem. Ban it. It's hard to have a rational discussion with someone suffering from an irrational fear of an inanimate object. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Life, the Universe, and Everything
  9. You're right. There are instances of crime, negligence, suicides, and accidents with guns. I personally don't see it as a "gun problem", but rather a "crime, negligence, suicide, and safety problem". That is all I'm saying. I watch these arguments go back and forth and it seems like guns are attacked and defended by way of mute points. No one ever really talks about the underlying problem. Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner! The problem is anti-gun folk will never be able to talk about the underlying problem. Their fear of guns will never allow them to get that far. That's why I started this thread. I would like to see this fear addressed so we can have a meaningful discussion. What do you think the odds of that happening are? "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. 11. You sound like an actor on stage, reading his screenplqy ... More like a spectator in the audience who figured out the plot. Sorry I didn't start out my post with "Spoiler Alert!!!" 12. More great examples of Anti-Gun rhetoric!!! These are not gun deaths. These are "Negligent Parent" deaths. How many kids die each year because a parent has his or her back turned? Do they ever make the news? NO!!!! Why? because a gun was not involved. The media is doing a great job of documenting every incident that involves a gun to condition that fear response into people. They are sure to label it "Gun Deaths" or "Gun Violence" when a gun was not the party that did the action that allowed the accident to happen. When a toddler falls off a balcony to his death do they label it a "Balcony Death?" Of course not. No agenda to push there. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. 13. Is this sarcasm? If not then please provide a Google search showing "several instances in the past few weeks" because the results I'm getting are more "a few instances in the past several years." and when you read the story some of them had nothing to do with a gun being dropped. I've tried "dropped gun discharge", "dropped gun went off", and "gun fell went off". There are only a couple models of handgun out there, outside of museum pieces, that will actually go off when dropped, and even then only under particular circumstances. https://www.washingtonpost.com/posteverything/wp/2015/04/09/deaths-of-children-are-the-most-devastating-effect-of-our-gun-culture-the-nra-has-no-idea-what-to-say-about-them/ This article is a perfect example of anti-gun propaganda!!! It puts all the blame on the guns and very liberally uses the term "Gun Violence" which once again is a made up term to attribute action to an inanimate object. It also does a good job of standing on the bodies of dead children to elicit the fear response. Great example! Thanks! "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. There are only a couple models of handgun out there, outside of museum pieces, that will actually go off when dropped, and even then only under particular circumstances. It's an unsubstantiated regurgitated talking point put forth by someone who has been conditioned to an automatic Pavlov response to an inanimate object. 15. You just made two unbelievably stupid statements. Yes they are incredibly stupid. Why does the left keep pushing these ideas with arguments like "If you own a gun your odds of getting shot go up?" or "We are all a bunch of rednecks clinging to our god and guns?" You know what? If you ride in a car, your chances of getting into a crash go up. If you swim, your odds of drowning go up, and if you eat your odds of choking go up. Yet the focus is always on the inanimate object, not the person. And yes, normal people carry also. It's been a long time since I've worn a cowboy hat. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Life, the Universe, and Everything
  16. Legitimate or not it's the truth. Take the Terms "Gun Crime" or "Gun Violence". These are terms made up by the left to demonize guns. You don't here terms like "Knife Crime," "Baseball Bat Crime," Sword Crime," or "Hammer Crime." Murder is murder regardless of the tool used, yet some people focus on the tool rather than the person or the crime. It's all a part of the conditioning to get that Pavlov response to guns. The 200 million guns in the U.S. that are handled safely every day can get drowned out by one incident. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. 18. One of the biggest lies gun control advocates try to spread is that everyone with a gun is some in-bread red neck out looking for a reason to pull his pistol and shoot someone. Or.... If you own a firearm you are about to get shot. Of course we know this is all propaganda trying to convince the general public that guns are going to jump out and gitcha!!!! To an extent it has worked. There are a lot of people out there that have already been conditioned like Pavlov's dog to instinctively fear an inanimate object and recoil in horror every time they see one. And as a result they are more than happy to outsource there safety and security to the government. The government knows best and hell, we've already outsourced everything else. That's why I wanted to share this with everyone here on Speakers Corner!!!! I first saw the hash tag carryeverywhere on this youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rg4Jx1c_B48 and promptly checked out the instagram page: https://instagram.com/explore/tags/carryeverywhere/ Chances are a lot of liberals probably have had a guy concealed carrying right next to them and didn't know it, and you know what? They lived! Like I've said, a lot of people have been conditioned to automatically piss their pants as soon as they see a gun, whether it's loaded or not, locked away in a safe, or what ever. They just can't get over the fear. Maybe, just maybe, if they realized that they have passed by several people who were carrying and nothing happened because they were in the hands of a normal person they might be able to stop associating an action to an inanimate object. Then maybe we will be able to start addressing the real problems, the criminals. After all, if you turn on the news they are the only people you see carrying. It's a part of the conditioning. Only criminals carry guns. normal people don't need guns. I'm turning responsibility over to the government. They are trained professionals! (best Paris Hilton Voice) I got people for that! I don't need to be responsible for my safety! I would encourage anyone who carries regularly to post under the hash tag. You don't necessarily have to identify yourself. 21. From the Movie Johnny Dangerously (1984) Tommy Kelly: I've got records, eye witness testimony, audio recordings, video recordings, blood samples, finger prints... D.A. Burr: It's weak, it's vague. It will never hold up in the court of law. Lets be honest, this administration has never let little things like, rules or the law stop it from doing what it feels is right. These are antiquated notions of a time past and have no place in our future. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. 22. I agree that we are going to have to wait for the rest of the evidence to be presented to see how this plays out. I do have one burning question that is driving me nuts though. If he was afraid of being drug under the car, why didn't he let go? Cops for the most part are people, not raccoons. When we grab something shiny in a box, we do have the ability to let go. He had a rear license plate number and the guys face on camera. He could have found him later. Well, that is enough back seat driving from me.... On the victims defense, I don't really blame anyone who runs from cops on a traffic stop. If the cost of the ticket is going to destroy you (especially if you live in California), you really don't have much to loose, do you? How many times do you think "Oh fuck, how much is this going to cost?" been muttered when someone sees flashing lights in their rear view? "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. 23. so you're saying that something will come out of this testimony that will take the outcome from 'no wrong doing' in all the previous investigations to 'finding of criminal behavior worthy of prosecution' in this one? By your own account of the foreseen events, you are basically saying that everyone involved in every previous investigation was likely criminally incompetent. The basic problem with your argument is you are asking people to believe what the government tells them. Personally I have no problem believing any of it. I believe we are governed by incompetent people. I don't believe there was any malice involved until after the idiots realized something was wrong. I believe a Benghazi cover-up and the cooked unemployment figures were an attempt at smoke and mirrors 2 months prior to a close election. Now you want us to believe the results of more politicians who say nothing wrong happened. I have 2 rules when it comes to politicians; 1: most of them would lie when the truth would sound better. 2: take whatever they say and turn it around 180 degree and you're probably alot closer to the truth. Then actually do some research into who you vote for and WHO is actually paying the bills from the men behind the curtain who OWN you and them ..... and NO... not all politicians do it. That is just what the bought and paid for by the STINK TANKS want you to parrot. STINK TANKS can't by hard facts, and there are some hard facts that you are ignoring. There are some hard facts that are also being hidden still. The big one is who changed the narrative? Never mind why, just who? "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Life, the Universe, and Everything
  24. Nice way to minimize the facts: 1. We (via the CIA) engineered a coup to overthrow their democratically elected government and install a dictator of our choosing (the Shah). [Look up "operation Ajax" if you don't believe me.] 2. We (via the CIA) trained the Shah's secret police, the SAVAK, in techniques of torture as well as infiltration of virtually all political activity opposed to the Shah; these tools SAVAK used to great effect to suppress political dissent. Along the way thousands of Iranians were imprisoned and tortured for years, or often just "disappeared". We also spent billions to keep the Shah's military and SAVAK well armed. By smothering the country's developing democracy and installing a dictator who had no scruples about the lengths he would go to, to protect his own power, we (unintentionally I'm sure) forced the marriage of political dissent with fundamentalist Islamic beliefs, by elevating exiled religious leaders such as the Ayatollah to the position of spokesmen for anti-Shah politics. That is a lot to "let go" of. Even so, we can provide a great example. Just look at how we let go of that whole Bay of Pigs fiasco. Or maybe not. Considering the history, and the rhetoric coming from the mouths of politicians who are determined to oppose anything and everything coming from the Obama administration regardless of the long-term damage they do along the way, what incentive do the Iranian leaders have to trust us? Yet, they have agreed to measures that Americans would never agree to. A large segment of the Iranian population would like to see normalized relations with the rest of the world. Most (or all) of the anti-American rhetoric is coming from the generation that personally suffered under the Shah, suffering they correctly blame the US for, but these people are elderly now and in 15 years, when the nuclear agreement ends, they will be gone from the stage. Speaking of "letting go", it's long past time the US let go of the Iranian hostage crisis, ideally acknowledge that there was good reason for the leaders of the Iranian Revolution to direct their anger to Americans (though Americans rarely ever admit any fault, and American politicians never do), and start to try to allow Iran to become what it was in 1953 before we screwed them up royally: a normal country with a democratic government and a vested interest in peaceful interactions with the rest of the world. Don Quit making excuses for them. They lost "victim status" a long time ago. I'm not denying the past, but they have engaged in a lot of bad since then. If we can overlook their support for terrorism, the thousands of American dead and 10's of thousands of American wounded by their hand in Iraq, along with the act of war against our Embassy in Tehran, then they can get over the 50's. We got over ours shit, now they can get over theirs. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Was that sky falling or just bird duuukie. If you do not want WAR.. do not support those beating the drums of WAR... Ike said it 50+ years ago..... and no one seems to have listened about appeasing those who profit from WAR. Sorry, but in this case it's the Democrats that are fear mongering.
