  1. The flip side to that coin is that maybe society is changing and the young folks who make up the future are part of that change. Stuff can't stay the same forever. Just because something always been a certain way doesn't mean it's the best way for the current time. Freedom of speech and the first amendment needs to be protected though. The free exchange of ideas is THE corner stone of any free society. Right now the leading theory on this eroding right IS the "everyone gets a trophy" mentality. Everyone is so special they can't be offended. And opposing view points are offensive. Hence the extreme liberal fascism we are seeing today. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. 2. Wrong about what? So you think that a guy who is about to beat me up, and knows that it is illegal, is going to stop because instead of breaking 8 laws he might be breaking 9? Do most criminals have a 9 law limit or something? As for the name of the thread, yes, I do believe race/class/status based exemptions are unconstitutional. If they wanted to make a blanket law concerning aggravating circumstances that effect everyone equally (which I'm pretty sure they already have a couple) that is OK. I'm not debating that race/class/status based laws are not out there. I'm saying they are wrong. And yes, there is a difference between a law that gives someone and extra right or privilege like giving them permission to carry a fire arm in an otherwise prohibited township, or allows them into a college with a lower standard (these laws effect the individual) and laws that effect the people around them (hate crime statutes). And once again, I think they are all wrong. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." 3. I've got a 40 year old broken Crossman BB gun I've been trying to get to a "buy back" program. None have opened in my state... "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Life, the Universe, and Everything
  4. I think Rush's point is that most Americans are ignorant to how it went down, and the American media wants to keep them that way. It makes it easier to pass similar legislation in the US. 5. This was the event that formed the "Oath Keepers." Though liberals refer to them as "that anti-goverment terrorist group." Liberals love having government dick up there ass.... 6. Oh, yea? From the following link: 'On September 24, the President ordered the 101st Airborne Division of the United States Army—without its black soldiers, who rejoined the division a month later—to Little Rock and federalized the entire 10,000-member Arkansas National Guard, taking it out of the hands of Faubus.' https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Rock_Nine ***as per the Posse Comitatus Act. And what legislature passed this act? I would like to know because I have never heard of any legislature doing so. Jerry Baumchen PS) One more: 'At 4:45 p.m., commanded by Gen. Douglas MacArthur, the 12th Infantry Regiment, Fort Howard, Maryland, and the 3rd Cavalry Regiment, supported by six battle tanks commanded by Maj. George S. Patton, formed in Pennsylvania Avenue while thousands of civil service employees left work to line the street and watch. The Bonus Marchers, believing the troops were marching in their honor, cheered the troops until Patton ordered the cavalry to charge them—an action which prompted the spectators to yell, "Shame! Shame!" 7. You are just not getting it. That law simply does not give me anything. You seem to think that it gives me an extra protection, but it doesn't. Nothing in that law is going to stand between me and someone who wants to do me harm, no matter how much you insist. All it does is add maybe extra punishment if they catch the guy. You don't get it that's why I bring it up.... Why should the bolded underline part apply to you and not any other old citizen. What makes you different than the rest of us that requires extra punishment? Nothing makes me different. I don't get anything from the law, I think the law is dumb. This law does nothing for me. At what point did I Ever say I supported it? I started this thread because I think shit like this should go away. It's just politicians doing shit to say they did something. Just like I don't think we should give any special privileges to law enforcement. They are people that live in the US they should have all the same rights and restrictions as everyone else. When I was in the military, I was not allowed to bring my M4 home. Police should lock there firearms up in the armory at night too instead of bringing them home. Maybe they will stop getting stolen. 8. The Australian gun buy back was mandatory https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_buyback_program While HR4269 does not have a mandatory gun buy back, Hilary would support one. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2015/10/25/hillary_clinton_and_gun_buybacks_128539.html Granted, right now she is pandering to the far left, but she has proven over and over again she can't be trusted. 10. And how does that effect me? It doesn't. Like I said, it only effects the person that attacks me. It doesn't get me a job, free beer, or free jumps. It doesn't get me anything. Sorry, but you are a little off target on this one. And quite frankly, if they were to revoke that law tomorrow, I wouldn't give a shit. Beating people up is supposed to be illegal anyway. 11. HR 4269 in the house. I put "Assault Weapons" in quotes, but it's pretty much all semi-automatic rifles, handguns, and shotguns. We all know that at this point it probably will not go anywhere, but I just wanted to make everybody aware of it. While it does have a grandfather clause, it does give multiple occasions for confiscation. A brief summary of it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xT3QWc_kfs Now when ever Obama or any other liberal says they don't want to take your guns away, go ahead and call them lying ass-clowns. They are always trying. Anyway, I made this thread as more for informational purposes, I don't really expect it to go anywhere. And I hope all the liberal representatives that signed on to this thing get kicked out of office. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. 12. Here is an example of you getting special treatment. Why should someone get a harsher punishment because you are active military, you are a human just like the rest of us. /Sarcasm That's not special treatment for me, that's special treatment for anyone who beats me up..... 13. Yep, and that is why we have politicians standing behind a wall of heavily armed thugs pointing guns at us telling us we don't need the same guns to protect ourselves. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Life, the Universe, and Everything
  14. We may have to agree to disagree then. Your OK with the government having more and bigger guns to point at you and you think that our politicians deserve more protections than the average person. I do not. This is the core of my argument. 15. I could care less. I was responding to the asinine 2 class argument jgoose is using. You want to load up on the same guns cops have, go nuts. Inside the US there is 2 classes. Inside the US there should not be. The US military is only allowed to operate outside the US as per the Posse Comitatus Act. This is why I'm OK with the military having nuclear weapons and tanks. If their jobs were inside the US, I would have a different opinion. Police on the other hand, operate inside the US. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Life, the Universe, and Everything
  16. yes, I joined the military. Not to get more rights, but to defend the ones we got. Not to watch them get spread unequally to those who deem them selves more deserving. And what is this "killing with impunity" bullshit? What do you think I do? "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. 17. The constitution gives a right to bear arms. Not the right to specific arms. I doubt you will find much widespread support for being allowed to own all arms owned by military. And as I have repeated over and over again in this thread, the police are not the military. The police have firearms for their defense. If a firearm has a valid defensive purpose, and the police can use it, so should the people. The police (and politicians) are a special or "more equal" class of people deserving of more protections than your average citizen. I'm OK with "just" a revolver if that's what every one has. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Life, the Universe, and Everything
  18. No, we can't. That is the point. Rights are not supposed to be given out in stages depending on who you are and what your job is. All equal under the constitution. 19. Invalid arguments. We are talking about the same under the constitution. Not skills, education, or sex organs. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Life, the Universe, and Everything
  20. Yes, and I've seen my old bosses empty the "Suggestion Box" into the garbage can too. I've never seen the EPA back down on anything except under a judges order. 21. There are war zones, and then there are American streets. Do you really think a police officer needs a recoilless rifle, TOW missile, or M2 .50cal machine gun to patrol the streets? If a police man needs it to defend the streets or protect politicians, I need it to defend my home. That's my argument. I'm no less deserving of the same protections as our government officials. If they can carry a pistol or M4 rifle for self protection and I can't, we are not the same. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Life, the Universe, and Everything
  22. False. I think you should do a little research into the Federal Register and its purpose. You also may want to do a little research into how federal agencies actually work. Let me ask you a question: Of all these "new rules" that were published, which ones did you participate in? If you didn't participate, why not? The reason rules are published in the Federal Register is to notify the public and to solicit public comment. These Agencies want your input and ask for it before any rule becomes law. Are you getting involved? If not, why not? Anyone can. There are a large number of people that do get involved. One person can make a difference. I've seen it. Stop whining and get involved. In my opinion, the main point of the article you linked is in the last sentence: *** “If Congress isn’t willing to force Obama to explain why unelected should make laws, it must be because the Republican Congress isn’t willing to end over-delegation." Obviously (if you have any clue) there's nothing for Obama (or any other previous POTUS) to explain. Congress delegated authority to all of these agencies to make laws. Additionally, in my opinion, the congress absolutely does not want to end so-called (according to the interviewee) "over-delegation." Especially republicans (edit: in fairness, democrats do the same thing with a R president, just target different agencies, though I do think its less in that scenario). Then they wouldn't have a boogey-man to blame (EPA is a favorite) when business or their constituents get mad about some rule from some agency. The article should be seen for exactly what it is: politicking. On a side note - I'm continuously amazed at the number of people I talk to in the US who are citizens and have no clue on how their govt works. (Honestly, immigrants who have become citizens are better informed.) If you don't know how this particular part of govt works (executive agencies), call up one of these agencies and ask them to explain the process. Really. Do it. In my experience, they are more than happy to explain and are happy that people are showing an interest and want to get involved. The vast majority are genuinely interested in making the US what the people want. Or don't. Whatever. I guess its also fun to just whine... Two examples for you. A while ago the BATFE tried to ban REM .223 ammo claiming it was an armor piercing pistol round. This ammo is primarily used in plinking and varmint rifles. Because of NFA rules AR pistols are now a huge thing and REM .223 can go through Level III body armor, however it was designed primarily as a rifle round. BATFE wanted to ban it because of it's pistol use (even though the rules specifically say they can't, because of it's primary use) They did put it up on there web site and it was made perfectly clear law suites would follow. Ban was rejected. Good for them. EPA is a different story. They may put notices up on there web site, but any new clean water issue/ land grab will only be counter acted with law suits. They typically don't give a rats ass what anybody thinks. But it's for the children and they have lots of money for lawyers..... Different agencies championing different causes will have varying results. Some don't care what you think because they are the smartest people in the room and they will be sure to tell you just how smart they are. There is how things are supposed to work (as you described above) and then there is how shit actually happens..... "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. 23. You do realize that driving is a privilege and not a right; yes? Actually that speaks to the part of his OP that was philosophically correct. Driving is a right. Anyone that says otherwise is a moron. Well, I guess I can't even begin to argue with that sort of legal knowledge. No, you can't. Because it's true, and it's blindingly obvious that it's true. If the 9th doesn't cover freedom of movement then it doesn't cover anything. Find a better way of travelling than cars and then you can ban driving. Until then, fugeddaboutit. freedom of movement may be a right, but a car is not. You can walk.... You must ask permission to pay the man before you are allowed to drive. Kind of my point about regulations. Sorry.... "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Life, the Universe, and Everything
  24. Yup, I recognize a couple of those cases. Most of them pretty old and justified MORE regulation. republicans today, democrats tomorrow. Clintons, Bushes, Kennedys, pick a clan. Long gone are the days of citizen legislatures. We now have royal families. For starters, either allow me to have the same guns as my government overlords, or limit my government overlords so they only can have the same guns as me. As I have said before, there are 2 classes of citizens regulated into existence now. Government officials and us. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Life, the Universe, and Everything
  25. Exactly why the government is never going to take all our guns. The goverment is made of people, and most people, like you, know confiscating guns is against the Constitution. Evil Obama can make all the proclaimations he wants. He needs the rest of the government, mainly the police and military, to execute them. As long as most people in the government still believe in the rule of law, our guns are safe. That's why the government is kept in check, not becase private citizens are armed, but because citizens who get a paycheck from the government are essentially no different from those who get their paycheck elsewhere. I wish it were true, but it's not. The Supreme court has refused to hear any challenge to gun regulations/ bans except D.C v Heller (they couldn't back out of it because it's DC. They couldn't pass it to another court.) And our country now has a political class. They will write all the rules in the world to surround them selves with armed gun men and not afford us the same protection... for our protection. With only an estimated 38% of the house holds in the US owning a gun, the rest of the country just doesn't care, because it does not effect them. I don't like those odds. The good news is more people are realizing that they are the first line of defense, not the police, when something goes wrong. They are starting to take an interest in protecting them selves until the police arrive. So maybe things will change.... maybe...... "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying.
