  1. Praying to God now? We've converted another one!!! "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Life, the Universe, and Everything
  2. Another fine quality post by a crazy liberal. You have to remember that liberals have no common sense. They react emotionally with no regards to the consequences. Here is the perfect article to sum up liberal policies: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/canadian-woman-who-stopped-to-save-ducks-on-highway-faces-jail-over-crash-9554721.html Notice how at the end of the article she started to sound like a republican.... Please, think of the ducklings.... "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." 3. It's more like the idea that some people just like to get by on their own rather than depend all the readily available crap in the city is just as foreign to them as the idea of a solution that doesn't involve the government. And then of course in typical liberal fashion, they make fun of what they don't understand. Would you expect anything less from people that claim to be "inclusive"? 4. Yea, she sent me a message too, but I'm not going to judge her. I'm told sometimes a woman needs to kiss a lot of frogs before she finds her prince (or in Nataly's case, possibly princess?) 5. You are right. The idea of a world tax is just a passing thought to help ease the burden of America's roll in the world. But as America's voters get dumber and dumber and the government gets bigger with the media has stopped doing it's job, I don't think we will be able to hold our government accountable for much longer either. Politicians lie on TV all day long and if it's in line with the news agencies ideals, it won't get reported. Oh well, Bush's and Clintons forever! Hail the new ruling class! "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Life, the Universe, and Everything
  6. Oh good lord that was so not my point. Did you think that was my point? That was not my point. While it may not have been your point, but the UK is slowly building up it's military, and since you are a stone's throw from the middle east (at least closer than the U.S.) and we are slowly withdrawing from the world under Obama... You will need that..... "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Life, the Universe, and Everything
  7. I was suggesting more of a goods for services kind of a deal. Most thugs only offer protection from themselves. A little bit of a difference there. But you are right, this would be enforced by our federal government.... And when the time comes (and it will) when Jimmyistan starts getting bullied, do you think that our Government will have the conviction to cut the strings and say no? We tend to buckle under the court of world opinion. We get people screaming "think of the children" and "somebody should do something" and then we are right back where we started... broke playing world police... And then there is our interests also, when we can no longer trade with other counties and we can't manufacture anything any more. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Life, the Universe, and Everything
  8. I'm not suggesting that we become street thugs shaking down the local store owners. The world needs the good guys to stand up to the bad guys to keep them in check. The U.S. can not keep the status quo. Back in the 60's and 70's when we were the biggest industrialized nation as the rest of the world was still recovering from WW II, we could. But as the rest of the world recovered and was able to start competing against our economy through the late 70's, 80's and present day, things are changing. Everyone has gotten used to the U.S. being there covering shit that they should be able to do on there own now. It's the moral equivalent to the kids moving out, saying how good they are doing while mommy and daddy are still covering part of the bills. As jakee pointed out above, the UK is stepping up, but a lot of people still are not. As Obama slowly removes the U.S. from the worlds scene, you are seeing Syria and Iraq in turmoil, Northern Africa burning, Israel being attacked from all sides, Russia bullying it's neighbors, and when we pull out of Afghanistan, I would expect nothing less than what we have already seen. So to keep the world at peace, either the rest of the world has to step up or the U.S. has to keep doing what it's doing. And as I've said, to the U.S., it's not sustainable. That's why I was thinking about how well a tax on the rest of the world might work, because the rest of the world seems to be taxing us. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. 9. I agree that the thug life is disgusting, and I also agree that the first amendment is for more than speech that we agree with. The big reason why I think the first amendment is important though is so that way everyone knows what everyone else is thinking in an honest fashion. Does anyone else think it's important to notice that the people of the city sympathise with the thug more than the cops? That alone speaks volumes and says that maybe there is something in the city or maybe in the police force that needs work. I would go on my usual rant about public sector unions and how we need to better screen cops and eliminate the bad ones, but that the populace here seems to have made that point for me. 10. I'm sold! Let's do it! It's a novel idea, but a lot of countries would have a shit fit if we removed our military bases and left them open to some of their neighbors. Do you think it's a good idea to tell some of these countries could fend for themselves? What do you think the Indian Ocean would look like if we stopped patrolling there? Do you think Seychelles could defend it's own waters? Do you think that it's OK for us to ask for a little something in return? "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. 11. Hi Aphid, To be fair, Canada doesn't have as big of military as the the U.S. either. If we weren't stuck in the role of playing "Team America, World Police" we could probably afford to give even more dollars in aid and have a Single Payer Health care system that works to boot. Kind of the point of this post. The rest of the world gets to sit back and enjoy the benefits of having an America a part of it. Imagine if Canada had to project it's power to maintain it's safety and security? "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. 12. It works like this. If you want the U.S. to possibly bail you out of a shitty situation, we will only come and help if you paid your tax. Georgia or Ukraine gets invaded and wants help? Did you pay your tax? Your country gets hit with a Typhoon, Hurricane, Cyclone, Earthquake and tsunami? Did you pay your tax? Have a humanitarian crisis? Did a nuclear reactor melt down in your country? Did you pay your tax? Being over ran by Taliban? You want the U.S. to join your coalition to over throw Gaddafi? Did you pay your tax? Who pays more foreign aide than any other country? Who's contributes more to the U.N. than any other country? And who bears the brunt of these costs and what is it doing to that country? And then when Katrina hit, we get a lot of "pledged help" but very little actually gets done. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_response_to_Hurricane_Katrina And we'll just pretend that Hurricane Sandy never happened. To be clear, the last thing I want is for America to Isolate it's self. Just throwing this out for discussion. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Life, the Universe, and Everything
  13. It sounds like you are starting to see my point of view. Do you think that the person will feel better about paying for that abortion just because he gets to write it off come tax time? "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Life, the Universe, and Everything
  14. And agreed that you have responsibilities when you start a business. But when do those responsibilities stop? If my employee takes a shit, am I responsible to wipe his ass under penalty of law? Corporations are not people but they are ran by people. A rule that is passed by the government has to have people to follow it. Kind of similar to a gun that needs a person to pull the trigger. When you mandate that a business has to so something, there is a actual person in there that has to do it. And you seem to be all for making him do something that is against his religious beliefs. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Life, the Universe, and Everything
  15. Isn't that . . . illegal? Isn't the entire reason a corporation exists is to separate the two? To protect one from the other? No, it's not illegal. When a person starts a company, it's personal money or money lent to a person. When a mom and pop store goes through a rough spell and operates in the red, they will usually give up money that would have been their pay to keep it going. It doesn't get divided into "corporate money" and "personal money" until they do their taxes. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Life, the Universe, and Everything
  16. I'm pretty sure that was what one of the Justices was talking about when he made his decision on "Closely Held Companies". A lot of times, especially in "mom and pop" or non-publicly traded companies, there is no difference in "Company money" and "Personal Money". When you have to reach into your personal pocket to pay the cost to keep your company going, at that point, are you no longer a person? Once you have incorporated, and sought the protections that the legal systems allow for the fictitious "person" then there is definitely a difference. I believe the supreme court is on the wrong track and stretching to hold that corporations have rights the same way individual citizens do--first in Citizens United and now in this case. I was happy about the effects of one of those cases but not the other one but the legal reasoning was pretty bad in both of them. I do not see how the Supremes can continue down this path. I'll put you down for "Once a person starts a company, he loses his basic human rights" "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. 18. I agree with this, but would also add, while the money is in your hands, you can't stamp "...except for any debts incurred due to things I find offensive to my religion" below where it reads, "legal tender for all debts public or private" prior to giving it to me. By putting the legal tender phrase on money "the government is mandating you pay for all your employees most religiously offensive acts, when what the money is good for should be between you and your employees." Your logic is dizzying me, I'm not quite sure what you are saying. It almost sounds like "If you are an employer, you have to pay for what your employee wants." And you are justifying it by saying the current rules are "The employee still has to spend the his paycheck in a fashion that the employer dictates." Which is kind of the opposite of what I said, and the court ruled. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." 19. And if you do not know the difference between collaboration and serving with honor and returning with honor intact... OH clearly you do not. I guess you just like your favorite GOP collaborator... Hanoi John.. I challenge anyone here to endure the kids of torture POWs endured and not talk. You're scraping the bottom of the barrel here Jean. Hey Airdvr Amazon does understand this. If you missed it in American POW freed thread, someone was saying that because there was a picture of Bergdahl smiling with a taliban dude, he was a traitor. This thread is her way of trying to point out that this is not always the case. When you are a POW, your life is not your own and you will be used as a propaganda tool, it doesn't matter if you like it or agree to it. Of course, she is doing it with her usual, always loving and friendly (and never partisan) on-line demeanor.... "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. 20. And everyone's favorite politician just got caught telling a whopper: http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2014/jul/11/nancy-pelosi/nancy-pelosi-says-supreme-court-five-guys-who-star/ I personally like the SC's decision. No one seems to be getting the flip side of the argument. Just because I start a business doesn't mean I loose my rights as a person. The prevailing liberal argument seems to be that bosses are not people. I beg to differ. Women and minorities also start businesses, is the government going to come in and tell them how to spend their money also? Also, there is the claim that all of the sudden all of these benefits are going to be lost now that this has passed. If anything this is going to save benefits and here is why: Employers were able to choose what their health plans covered in the past. With this ruling, they can now keep those plans. I highly doubt that now that this ruling has passed they are now going to start axing things out as the left claims. Remember they chose these plans when the market was open (well, more open). Now that they get to keep their plans the same, if they like their plan they can keep it. They are not forced into an Obamacare plan because the plan went away do to a minor change. But if they absolutely have to have the $35 morning after pill and it has to be covered by insurance, they can always go to healthcare.gov. Edited to add: you will appreciate this when the employer mandate kicks in. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. 21. I kind of like this quote. It's missing something though. When the money is in my hands, I can spend it the way I want. When the money is in your hands, you can spend it the way you want. When the money is im my hands, you can't tell me how to spend it. When the money is in your hands, I can't tell you how to spend it. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. 22. de•ter•rent adj. 1. serving or tending to deter. n. 2. something that deters: a deterrent to crime. 3. military strength or the capacity to retaliate strongly enough to deter an enemy from attacking. 23. It's been a while since I've checked into this thread, but I've seen the current arguments and had to weigh in. If this has already been said, then ignore: Bergdahl should have never been allowed to join the Army in the first place. He had already washed out of Coast Guard boot camp in 2006 for mental issues: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/06/12/us/bowe-bergdahl-discharged-from-coast-guard-before-joining-army.html?_r=0 Once you understand that he was mentally unstable, the rest kind of falls in place. The argument of whether or not we should have traded for him then all falls down on how much risk are you willing to take to rescue a nut case that put himself in that situation. YMMV. 24. Wow, I love articles that just throw shit at a wall to see what sticks... With your background I have a hard time believing that you buy into this also. McCain didn't have the benefit of the training that today's soldiers and sailors have. As a matter of fact, it's because of people like him that had a stay in the "Hanoi Hilton" that we the training we get today. You do realize that he can no longer raise his hands above his head properly because of the things that were broken and never healed correctly, right? It's been said that everyone in there spilled something at one point and time. It wasn't a controlled training environment with learning points to be had for only a couple of days like you may have been used to. Edited to add: Just saw the argument you were having in the American POW freed thread. Now I have the context to this post. Never mind... Please don't waterboard me again..... 25. I read the article and as much as I like poking Obama in the eye about how fucked up he is, this article doesn't even come close to ringing any truth. 3 glaring wrongs in this article, just to start out with: 1. The Mexican southern border is secure. You can cross the southern border for the equivelent of a $1.30 in plane view of the police. The only people the police care about are the rich that they can extort. 2. They are providing transportation to the U.S. Mexican border. When was the last time the Mexican government provided anything to it's people? If they are, the closest thing that it could possibly mean is that they are designating areas for people to meet with coyotes. 3. They will give special protections and financial assistance to those transiting to America. Please refer to my statement number 2. About the closest thing they will get to protection is that the coyotes will not beat/rob/rape/kill the women and children in plane view of the police they are bribing. Anyone else feel free to chime in on anything I may have missed. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss."
