  1. I started jumping in 92 and the Stiletto was one of the highest performance canopies on the market...at least if my memory isn't failing me..... I also started in '92. I bought a Cruiselite and jumped it for 2 seasons. Then I got the Stiletto. It was the first one in my province. Everyone thought for sure I would die.
  2. I found a different copy. This one has the audio. https://www.liveleak.com/view?i=b9a_1516911586
  3. Yes, she was a poor student. We don't know what the jump was. It may not have been AFF at all. It may have been a static line or IAD jump. First time jumpers are unpredictable. In the stress of a first or early skydive they are very prone to being overwhelmed and making errors. Many students have failed to cut away malfunctions. Experienced jumper sometimes do as well.
  4. Thank you. I'm a Canadian and I live due north of you in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Occasionally I jump in Fargo ND, but not for a couple years now. I drive a semi and most of my miles are spent driving between home and US deliveries and back again. That means I spend about a third of my life in your country. And I drive through or even into SD a lot. I sort of understand about the internet trash talking thing. You have strong opinions, most of them completely against the flow here, and you get frustrated easily. I assume that you are a hard working and successful man and that you get along just fine with all kinds of people with all kinds of views in real life. Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.
  5. Today I have time for your nonsense. Most days you are but a faint noise that I hear briefly when I visit this site. Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.
  6. It was a student. Under radio control. The audio is missing now, but in the earlier one you can hear the instructors. One of them was laughing. But not at the end.
  7. This depends on the orientation of the jumper. Realize that when Vigil says 840 ft they mean as high as 1100 feet if you are falling back-first. I would assume the same applies to the other two as well. See page 10 http://www.vigil.aero/wp-content/uploads/Vigil-II-users-manual-II.0.6.pdf page 3 http://www.m2aad.com/download.php?group=download2_soubory&id=101 Yes indeed. And that is a good example of why people need to read and understand their AAD manual. But almost no one does.
  8. 170 Stiletto. For about the last 20 years. The S-Fire turned almost as fast, had a better flare, and better openings. Stiletto is early 90's technology. But still in production.
  9. I jumped a 169 about 6 times. Decent openings. Fun to fly, meaning fast turns. Trimmed fairly shallow with a fairly flat glide ratio. Flare was good after I figured out that I needed to take a wrap to shorten the brake lines up. You need to make sure they are not too long because a lot of the power was fairly deep down. I would definitely consider buying one if I was shopping for a new canopy. I’m about 210 lbs before gear.
  10. Dude, again. It's hard to believe you sometimes. I was answering a question asking for an opinion. Not facts. I never stated anything was factual. Just that I had some ideas. You are extremely tiresome tonight. Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.
  11. It's worked elsewhere. Americans are not so different. Most of the are human. I'm talking about a long term buyback. It would reduce the numbers over a period of many years. Note, I said "reduce" not eliminate. Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.
  12. They are all part of the Deep State. I heard about it from Alex Jones. Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.
  13. I can't really answer that question. But I can make a relevant comment. It's not so much the forward speed, but the total speed that matters. That is to say the downward speed plus the forward speed is the total speed you are moving. And that speed is different with the brakes stowed versus unstowed. Probably the only people who can answer the question are the people who did the testing. And I'm guessing they will not say.
  14. Dude, there you go again. Look up the meaning of the word "Irony". What I posted was a direct answer to someone's question about a hypothetical situation. As usual you are reacting without following the thread. And speaking of spewing opinions without any facts to back them up, that is your modus operendi here nearly every time you post. Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.
  15. That's both unknowable and irrelevant. The question was about preventing future events. Like I said, don't start getting all over me about "it won't work". It's about a hypothetical situation where America becomes more civilized and loses a little of it's frontier mentality. Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.
  16. Hey Marc, any of your right wing heroes calling for this to be made public? https://www.cnn.com/2018/01/25/politics/grassley-donald-trump-jr-transcript-release/index.html Didn't think so! And by the way, all this talk about a "secret society" that wants to get rid of Trump is really missing the point. It's not a secret group that feels this way. It's anyone who is not on the right wing fringe and who has more than half a brain. Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.
  17. Which nicely sets up the next phase in the drama. A lengthy court battle over whether or not he can be subpoenaed. That should keep the whole thing alive well after the mid-terms. Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.
  18. Of course he would lie under oath. He is completely incapable of telling or even recognizing the truth. That's a big part of what makes him a dotard. Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.
  19. That would mostly leave the laws up to the states wouldn't it? In any case I would start with restricting the types of weapons available and a buy back program. Strong controls on carrying, and large magazines. Strong laws on proper locked storage, and keeping ammo stored separately. You can not undo instantly what took decades to be done. But that is not an excuse for just carrying on. And of course the 2nd is yours to keep. So my answer only applies to the hypothetical situation you asked about. Don't start in on me about how it could never work. I know that. Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.
  20. What's that old saying about fire and fury? This memo talk is only an attempt at distraction. Much ado about nothing. If there was anything that the Trumpeters could use it would have leaked out long ago. If and when it does come out it will have some bullshit innuendo that will be disproved in about 5 minutes. Nunes is the guy who had to step aside from the investigation basically because his relationship to the truth is almost as tenuous as Trump's. Remember? Once again, keep your eye on the ball. When is Mueller going to "interview" the Dotard under oath? The end game is getting closer. Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.
  21. This is a long time point of contention. The current trend is toward higher activation altitudes. The three major brands have slightly different defaults. CYPRES 750 ft Vigil 840 ft M2 885 ft These are the altitudes that older units are set for. DZ offsets are available for all three. But using that to raise activation altitude raises other possible issues. The Vigil uses the altitude correction function both for raising activation altitude of for DZ offset. The other two see this a separate function. The good news is that all three have newer units with new software that allows the user to raise the activation altitude. Many people are choosing 1000 ft. However, they are also raising their minimum opening altitude. This is the main reason USPA and now CSPA have raised their allowable opening height to 2500 ft. The downside is a greater chance of a two out situation. Or the end user changing settings and not really understanding all the implications. With increased control over the device people should be increasing their knowledge as well. But people are people.
  22. It is traditional and common to use sarcasm in this forum. The comments are not at the expense of the dead children and you know that. The reason he feels no one cares is that no one is willing to make any changes to help prevent more incidents. If leaders care why don't they do something? Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.
  23. Thank you. This is the relevant part of that incident quoted.
  24. Really? What kind of canopies? I have occasionally seen this in the past. But not for awhile. But then again I only see a few new mains a year.
  25. A recent thread in the incidents forum leads me to wonder. Have you ever known of anyone landing unconscious, or otherwise unable to control a reserve parachute upon landing? Did they survive and how badly were they hurt? My feeling is that the survival rate in this circumstance is going to be pretty low. It's not a common occurrence and likely most times it happens is with someone who may already be dead. If you have any examples please include canopy type and size along with wing loading if you have any of this information. Personally, I once landed a 5 cell Swift 177 at about 200 lbs exit weight in line twists so no flare and no control. I landed on the concrete tarmac and broke one heel. Almost no forward speed in this example. I was fully conscious, I just did not have enough time to clear the twists.
