  1. I just bought my plane ticket out for the sit-round. Be there!
  2. I think it'd be a great idea to bring back the head up challenge/work on building bigger and bigger "all-head up" sit-rounds, but that doesn't mean that these belly to sit rounds Amy is organizing aren't bad ass too. In fact, I'm a huge fan : ) I'll do my best to make it. I certaintly wouldn't want to miss another go at it! (even if it means flying out from Florida on back to back weekends)
  3. I am in! There is no way I would miss this year's attempt, as last years jumps were such a great experience. I'm flying out on Friday and I'll register as soon as I get there. Can't wait to see everyone and build this sit-round!
  4. Team Solstice is a 3 way freefly team, training out of Eloy. 2nd in open class last year - competing in the world meet and open class at nationals this year. As soon as I find teammates and the time, I will be a member of a 3 way freefly team Also, I don't think a low number of replies to a DZ.com post should justify thinking that "no one is competing" this year."
  5. Hi Tom, I hope you're having fun right now. I still think of you very often, seems like almost every day. I was nervous as hell on Dec. 30th this year as I was about to make my first jump at this year's boogie. So nervous, my friends could feel it, but once I got out the door I had a wonderful and safe skydive. The boogie was great, and Ficus and Ego decided they were going to show up and surprise me on the 31st, just when I thought no Byron folks were going to show. Your death changed my life in many ways, but it prevented almost certain tragedy, and terrible changes, and when I think on all I've done, felt, experienced, accomplished, since that day. I say thank you to you. Blue Skies my friend... Ilea
  6. Great people, great flying, great day. It was awesome all around : ) Wonderful attitudes by all and fantastic organizing.
  7. I didn't know JP very well, but I do know that he was a very caring, very loving person. At Tom's SNOT he gave me a huge hug and had many kind words to say. My condolences to the family and Byron Love to all.
  8. I lost my LP virginity last year and it was better than I could have ever imagined. I will do everything I possibly can to make it. The only way I won't be there is if the military says otherwise. Blue Skies, Skydiver Blondes, and Byron Love Always... -------------------- Amazon Beachbum - trying my damndest! 10. I can try and put something together for patches. If anyone has input, please let me know ~ilea
  11. I'm there ---------------------------------------------- thanks to Tom...goddammit.
  12. He was a respectable gentleman. Always very respectful
  13. a few more of Tom most from the 15th, one from the 22nd at the Bent Prop I know I'm a picture posting whore...but he's a little different in all of them : )
  14. Dang, I only get to attach 4 at a time. More to come. Here are some of the "various faces of Tommy D." Pictures taken 15 Dec, at Marcels house shortly after some rounds of VCL. --------------- Also, as i was searching for Tom's VCL pin the evening of the 31st so that I could wear his close to my heart (which I did), he stole mine. I looked everywhere and checked the pocket it should have been in over and over again, and there is no way i would have missed it. Then today, while walking through my house thinking that I was satisfied knowing that Tom had my pin, I put my hand in the pocket of my suitcase to check one more time, and there it was. I guess Tom wanted me to have it back. Thanks!
  15. I loved Tommy D so damn much. He was a wonderful, amazing person - quiet because he didn't feel the need to talk for the sake of talking, but he could have an amazing conversation with you as well. Kind hearted and wonderful. Always willing to dance with me, and how about that voice when he administered VCL. It was the clearest words ever spoken by "the mumbler" and in an entirely different tone. He always told me to be safe, and he kept me that way. Thank you, I love you, you kept me safe. If it makes anyone feel any better to know this. I think Tom went out enjoying his life. Tom and I had gotten to liking one another and were spending some time together and I was lucky enough to see a lot of that amazing smile that only comes out once and a while and a twinkle in his thoughtfull eyes. Last time I talked to him was in the door of the skyvan. He said, "May I have a kiss," and of course, he got one. We did a jump for him later that day, sunset load on the DC-3. We sang "him him fuck him" and "the Byron Boogie Boys" at 10,000 feet. Even though we were going to leave him a slot, he decided it'd be more fun to take out his own jump. Please please please stay safe everyone, I love you all so much. RIP Tommy D. You will be sorely missed and forever remembered. Blue Skies and Byron Love Always - i'll be looking forward to a dance with you the next time we meet.
  16. Thanks to everyone for all the advice so far. It seems like the main consensus is demo demo demo.
  17. All, I've got a max exit weight of 135 - currently jumping a Safire 2 119 loaded at 1.13 Any advice on downsizing and or a change in canopies for a person in my situation? I'm an aspiring swooper, but it is difficult to get much out of a canopy loaded so lightly. Thanks!
  18. I'm with Ego. No need to wait until the 26th! The Boogie starts on the 22nd...and we started on the 19th. But I also have the luxury of having home be in Phoenix, so I don't have to miss xmas to be out here. We're starting off the Boogie in style with a balloon jump the morning of the 22nd. Woohoo! Come out and play! ~ilea
  19. From a Biology Major --The reasons that circumcision reduces infection is because the foreskin contains certain types of cells that are more susceptible to HIV infection than cells in the keratized (thiker/tougher) layer of skin that is present after circumcisions. The tougher layers also helps reduce infection becuase it is just that, tougher -- less likely to get damaged and provide a route for infection -- damage also recruits immune cells, which are the main target of HIV ---Circumcision doesn't prevent someone from getting HIV, however, if you are not circumcised, you have a higher chance of becoming infected.
  20. I also live in Phoenix and will be hitting up the early days of the Boogie. Not sure on days/times yet, but if the times work out, I could probably pick up some people on my way down. 21. Not long after arriving at the dropzone I had people coming up to me and introducing themselves. Everyone had a great attitude and created a fun atmosphere that I was readily welcomed into. As I was gearing up for my first jump of the day a couple of people i had met just moments ago invited me on a jump with them. Even though i had little freefly experience they were happy to have me along. I had someone to jump with all day and lots of great help. It is pretty windy most of the time, but doable, and there are no real bathrooms. But if you can deal with that, Bay Area Skydiving is amazing! I highly recommend it.
  22. Yes, i would like to get into swooping eventually and have just heard amazing overall comments about the XF2's flying ability. Also, I really don't have much of a choice when it comes to "underloading" the canopy until I start getting pretty small size wize. My current exit weight is 135 pounds. So almost any canopy i'm going to jump is going to be underloaded. I know that the canopy will perform better at its recommend loading, but I would need to jump a 97 to get the min recommended loading. It puts me in the dilema of...if i follow the "recommended" loading, I'd probably never jump a high performance canopy. So even though i know it's not going to have its "best" performance, i'm just trying to figure it out if it will still fly well and retain many of its good characteristics. I plan on demoing both a Safire 2 and a Crossfire 2 anyways, but i was just looking for any advice on possible problems that might arise from underloading a hp canopy. Thanks for all the help so far.
