  1. I got my c-card last October (which was before my first jump), need to get underwater again soon (gotta wait to get back from WFFC first
  2. That's scary. What's wrong with some people?? _______________________________ 30005KT 10SM SKC 23/05 A3006
  3. I was a pilot before I was a skydiver. It is difficult for me to choose a first love - I enjoy both for different reasons. Skydiving is thrilling, challenging, has a great social side to it - flying can also be thrilling (aerobatics), but I also like the way it clears my mind of other things (like work). The thing I love about both is the immediate sense of accomplishment that comes from doing something well - you know right away when you pull off a beautiful approach/landing or a formation jump that goes well. _______________________________ 30005KT 10SM SKC 23/05 A3006
  4. Same here - also I'd like to see an option to search by home dropzone. That would be really helpful. _______________________________ 30005KT 10SM SKC 23/05 A3006
  5. I'm sure you considered it, but if not, have you thought of the Mohonk Mountain House? It's right near The Ranch (easy access to sneak in skydives), and they've got everything on your list - natural beauty, lakes, mountains, horseback riding, boating, etc.. http://www.mohonk.com/ _______________________________ 30005KT 10SM SKC 23/05 A3006
  6. I saw a yellow hummer with New York tag "GTAWOODY" - couldn't stop laughing! I'm amazed the DMV allowed it! _______________________________ 30005KT 10SM SKC 23/05 A3006
  7. I get a kick out of it when women say that they don't work out with weights because they're afraid of getting too big
  8. I jumped the pilot a few weeks ago in the Icon container. Overall I did like it, although the brake lines on the one I jumped seemed like they were a little bit too long, so it didn't seem very responsive at the top of the toggle stroke. I got great landings out of it, and it was fun to fly. Personally, I still prefer my Sabre2, but it's a close contest. I've only got 80 jumps, so take my advice with a grain of salt. _______________________________ 30005KT 10SM SKC 23/05 A3006
  9. Here's some of my aerial pics - took these in March of this year from a Cessna 172 (actually my brother took them because I was flying). _______________________________ 30005KT 10SM SKC 23/05 A3006
  10. That's exactly what I did - I did a 5-1 ARM which is fixed for the first 5 years, then it adjusts. I kept the place for 2 years - just long enough to avoid capital gains tax, and sold it. Worked out great for me, but if the real estate market tanked, it could have been a problem (I'd be forced to hold the investment or take the loss - and during that time the interest could start adjusting and increasing the monthly payment). 11. Try this link http://nasdac.faa.gov/asp/asy_asrs.asp Click "Databases" then "Aviation Safety Reporting System (ASRS)" then "ASRS Data Query Tool" They use cookies which seem to prevent direct linking to the query form. _______________________________ 30005KT 10SM SKC 23/05 A3006
  12. The biggest suggestion for once you get your own is that almost anything that fits you properly will be far more comfortable than the one-size-fits-nobody student rigs. The difference for me, moving from a Telesis student container to a Mirage G3, was astonishing. Even jumping one of the rental G3s that was a bit too small for me was still not nearly as uncomfortable as the student gear. But the other suggestions here are good regardless of the rig you jump. 13. Please mark me down as well - gonna be there for the, um, "time before second" time _______________________________ 30005KT 10SM SKC 23/05 A3006
  14. You may want to talk to Robin at The Ranch school - he's a CFI and belongs to a flying club with cheap rental rates. I got my license at Mac Dan Aero at Caldwell in NJ, but it was expensive since all they had was the new C172s (and most places near NYC are no bargain). That said, I did enjoy learning at Caldwell - made me very comfortable on the radio which comes in handy flying in the NY area. Before I moved to Raleigh, I was flying out of Panorama at White Plains - a great outfit, but also expensive. Blue Skies _______________________________ 30005KT 10SM SKC 23/05 A3006

  16. According to PD, flat packing can be more difficult to do correctly on tapered/elliptical canopies. Here's the link to their FAQ: http://www.performancedesigns.com/faq.htm#b. They recommend PRO packing, so that's what I do. I'm still slow at it, but I'm getting better with each packjob. Blue Skies _______________________________ 30005KT 10SM SKC 23/05 A3006
  17. Top of the screen under "Forums" -> "Who's Online" -> "View Member Directory" link That'll take you to the list of members, with a search box. _______________________________ 30005KT 10SM SKC 23/05 A3006
  18. The option is there - but when I've tried it, it doesn't work. It returns all members no matter what you search for. _______________________________ 30005KT 10SM SKC 23/05 A3006
  19. I also took the course this year, at The Ranch. Scott is not only an amazing canopy pilot, but he is also a great teacher. I feel a lot safer under canopy after taking the class, especially on busy days when the pattern is full. Putting the canopy into a full stall is fun too
  20. I tumbled the exit on my hop 'n pop too Didn't eat much altitude though. I was still subterminal when I dumped. Nice buttery slow opening
  21. Congrats!!! It's cool that your family is into jumping. My mother still thinks I'm nuts for jumping. At least my brother is into it. He has done two tandems so far. I'll be up at the ranch this weekend (probably Friday too - ditchin' work!) - would be honored to jump with you
  22. Want to get a pizza and fuck? ... What's the matter, you don't like pizza? _______________________________ 30005KT 10SM SKC 23/05 A3006
  23. Yes! It took me many jumps to get a good diving exit. I know a bunch of other students at my home DZ who have the same problem. At least if you're like me, you'll learn how to get stable real fast following a bad exit - that's a good skill to have. _______________________________ 30005KT 10SM SKC 23/05 A3006
  24. Love that movie! ... Lawrence: I'll tell you what I'd do, man - two chicks at the same time, man. Peter: That's it? If you had a million dollars, you'd do two chicks at the same time? Lawrence: Damn straight. I always wanted to do that, man. And I think if I had a million dollars I could hook that up, cause chicks dig a dude with money. Peter: Well, not all chicks. Lawrence: Well, the kind of chicks that'd double up on a dude like me do. Peter: Good point. Then there's this little gem... Tom Smykowski: Well-well look. I already told you: I deal with the god damn customers so the engineers don't have to! I have people skills; I am good at dealing with people. Can't you understand that? What the hell is wrong with you people _______________________________ 30005KT 10SM SKC 23/05 A3006
