  1. this gives me some confidence that my strategy will work for my kids... :-) alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
  2. That is the kind of attitude I think everybody should show! Years ago I did the same with the girl of one of the jumpers. I noticed she only sat around bored when she had all her homework done, just to wait until her dad is reday to go home... Guess what: She quickly became a very good packer! She did well on some boogies and everytime she visited the DZ she got a number of packjobs from everybody around. She`s now 18 and last month - after getting ok from her mom, she started AFF... :-) alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
  3. Is that directed towards me? I think something got lost in translation. Other than that, I think I agree with you on most of your post. No! John, I meant that many of the posters in this threat make this topic much more complicated than it is! I just did not know which post to reply to, so I just picked the latest and that was yours - sorry for that... alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
  4. so... I don`t know which post to reply to best, so I picked the latest.... I think you make living yourself more complicated than it is. I have to say that I have 4 kids (3 girls 10 to 5 and a boy 9). They are regulary at the DZ and they are very familiar with all others and they know very good where it is safe to go and where not. They grew up there. I don`t need to supervise them every second because they got used to everything which happens on a DZ and one of the first things they learned is how to stay save. I made it very clear even for the yougest what is strictly forbidden and they got it. Regarding adult language: I think it is in everyones responsibility not to offend anyone else with poor language, child or adult. If there is inappropriate wording and my kids hear it (and ask about it) I would explain that to them. If there is an individual who constantly use poor language, I would kindly ask the guy to take a little more care. Otherwise, we should put fences around DZ´s and offer entertainment rides a`la quincy thru the DZ, only after signing excessive waivers before... :-) At least, where I come from, Germany, there are always people around watching familiy members doing their fist jump/tandem and I think it would not be very wise to make the packing area a restricted area just because of poor wording from some individuals. Of course kids who are on the DZ for their first time should be supervised, but this does not only apply to kids. There are numbers of supid adults also and they must be supervised also... The DZ should make clear rules for visitors regarding to safety! alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
  5. Nice Video!! But not the first from a Zeppelin NT. I remember an event in germany couple of years ago where they jumped from one... alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
  6. I personally hook them up on all 4 straps on the way to taxi. (Cessna 206 soloy with rear door). I see the possible downsides, but I also like that I tell them then, "From now on, only together". I think it gives them a better feeling and make them more relaxed.... alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
  7. I have the gut feeling that issues like this have more to do with the day to day mood of the personal at the airports and less with actual regulations or other hard facts... Once (barcelona, yes the one near empuria, I am shure they saw parachutes before!) I got the answer "the security officer of the day does not allow parachutes as carry on items". Before and after that specific flight it was no issue at all. On another travel a whole group of skydivers were refused to even check-in their equippment at baden-baden airport (Ryan-Air).... Maybe he/she did not get laid (or to much) the night before...? :-) alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
  8. These are vectran lines. My guess is somewhat between 50-100 jumps. more likely 100 than 50... Have them on my crossfire and tandem since years and know their look... alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
  9. I jump an atom container, with original bag and pilot chute. Of maybe 10 jumps there are 2 where the bridle is twisted up as you described, on the other 8 there are no twists at all to only a few twists in the bridle. I always wonder what the magic acround this is... Maybe it has to do with some weired issues around the coriolis force or the ugly bridle twisting wizzard... :-) alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
  10. Another iphone user... I wonder how many iphones we have in Günzburg and wonder what the percentage of iphone users in günzburg is compared to row! Guess, I should start a survey... :-) alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
  11. i have to admit that I have one or two tapes per cam and that for years. I guess they have been overwritten dozends of times and guess what: No Problem at all!! I would expect some problems because of the mechanical "use" of the media but there is`nt. At least for me.... (PC1000 and PC330) But as already said: The quality will be exactly the same until you see dropouts (very very visible!). Digital either works or works not. alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
  12. Jump 450 Safire I 149 2. day of Borneo Boogie. Brakeline broke, many twists but stable (could have get rid of the twists and land on rears when I think back) But I was about 1800ft above kota kinabalu international airport terminal and flying backwards, so I chopped and landed fine with my pd160. Btw.: Next jump was with a rented stiletto 135 - which scared the shit out of me - to the beach by the hotel on the same day. I had to choose between a PD190 or the stiletto for the rest of the boogie and were talked to the stiletto which was the best expierience ever! alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
  13. Not too long ago, I saw somobody in the airplane with a point and shoot still camera and a video camera somehow assembled on his glove.... alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
  14. that was my point... -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
  15. Did not have a real cutaway under canopy, but think about this: It was on a tandem. Winds suddenly increased to a point where the TI was dragged after landing somewhat out - so no catchers. He quickly decided to cut away but RSL still attached. Skyhook did its job and the cutaway main pulled the reserve completely out. The main landed some 50m far away with the freebag still attached. In that case, it was necassary to repack the entire reserve. Without skyhook it might have been enough to just close the container. So.. Think about disconnecting the RSL if you might land in conditions where a cutaway is unavoidable. (of course you should not even jump in these conditions....) alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
  16. Apple Software Upgrade had an update for me this morning for Final Cut. I do not have an AVCHD camera, but in the short announcement it mentioned about increased compatibility (or so...) with AVCHD. Anyone knows more about? I am thinking to buy an AVCHD cam but I am still uncertain... alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
  17. Ok... Good to know... alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
  18. I`m pretty shure it was the newer design. At least the Drouge is just about a year old... alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
  19. You are right. I considered to just grab the fabric to throw the drouge, but preferred to have some sort of handle... After a few jumps with my ugly extempore soft leather handle, I absolutely prefer the feeling of the hard handle which comes with the drouge...! alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
  20. just be careful to check and thighten the drouge handle on your sigma drougs!!! Yesterday I lost the handle 30 jumps after I personally inspected the whole stuff... :-( Fortunately, someone had an old hand deploy with hackey and I was able to knot it to the drouge handle attachment point. Very, very ugly! But Bill, I bet it will hold at least the lifetime of the drouge :-) You will see an order for some drouge handles soon... alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
  21. We have a girl with a xsi with the cheap kit lens at our club and I she showed me exactly this problem. I know it happend to her more than once. I dont know whats the cause, but it seems it is kind of "normal" :-( alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
  22. Hey, I really like picasa, but unfortunately there is no picasa for my mac :-( Which platform do you use? Anyway... Picasa opens RAW images just fine, but it does not nearly offer all the possibilities a real raw-converter does. So either you look out to upgrade your adobe raw-plugin (and possibly also the adobe software itself) or you might give canon`s software a try... alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
  23. how fast ist too fast to drive??? I heard about someone who drove > 1000 km/h and survived. Is it safe?? There is no answer to your question, it all depends... alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
  24. I have had this some time ago on a crossfire 119 with zero-p pilot-chute. The pc somehow managed it to get to rest just in front of the middle/left center-cell.... The whole thing flew different than normal but I tried some practice flares and turns up high and it was no problem. My landing was not sooo good, but I think this had more to do with thinking about the problem during flare. I could imagine it would have much more of a problem if the pc came to rest more off-center. As someone mentioned: Do your canopy control check and prepare for plf.... alex -- www.tandemmaster.net www.skydivegear.de
